  1. ;) I've always had an irrational fear of chickens and ferrets (hey what can I say I'm a bit weird ) and now knowing they eat rabit heads I'm terrified of the lil critters!
  2. Haven't read the whole thread, just what we do at home slightly OT .... Timmy gets BARF for one meal a day and chook necks for the other (he has sardines, raw eggs and the odd bit of natural yoghurt or cheese as a treat). So essentially a raw diet. We only just realised though pretty much ALL of his treats are vego Not deliberately, but when we want to do some traing pre dinner (ie sit calmly, do not beg for food, respect the kitchen boundaries) our training treats are raw veg (whatever we are prepping for tea - he LOVES cucumber, we even leave a half a chopped one aside for training treats when we have one). And each morning he happily slurps some of my green smoothie dregs (I have one for breakie each day - blended baby spinach, banana, couple of other pieces of fruit, sometimes parsley and always psyllium husk) he LOVES it and would drink a bowl full if allowed. I wouldn't cut meat out of his diet all together as I think dogs do need it, but I could easily feed him fruits and veg and grain (he gets the odd sneaky slice of toast at my parents) and he wouldn't complain. How well he'd do is anyone's guess. EFS
  3. Love the pic of them "sharing" sticks!!
  4. Muscle tone, clear bright eyes, clean teeth, good breath, good energy levels. We feed BARF patties alongside chicken necks (BARF for breakfast, necks for dinner) with the odd sardine in olive oil or raw egg complete with crushed shell. He also gets carrot sticks and cucumber (his favourite) as treats.
  5. Oooooh good thought! And cheaper then Felt Pet I've been day dreaming of having modelled!
  6. It's possible, we have the same issue here. He DID have blocked glands at first (rectified with antibiotics, regular emptying and not letting my folks feed their "grand dog" white toast with jam) but now seems to do it because he likes the feeling after a poop.
  7. That's awesome! You must be stoked with the result.
  8. That's a classic! I love the sprinkles idea!!
  9. So gorgeous! There's nothing quite like seeing dogs playing together
  10. All dogs should have manners, agreed. No doubt on that at all. My boy has lovely on and off lead manners (he's 4kg) thanks to one on work with a trainer from puppydom (best money we EVER spent, we were first time dog owners and the knowledge instilled was just priceless!). What I do like large breed owners to appreciate though is that their dog is up to, or more then, ten times the size of my boy and is always going to be seeming to be dominant (even if they aren't) to him as he's always going to have to look up to them. Also, injuries from playing etc are more likely as the sheer weight of a large breed can cause injury, and it has happened to my boy - boofy Benson (an enormous cross breed puppy at the park, gentle as!) caused musle strain.
  11. My MF boy was desexed at 18 weeks and has a very small head (he's very dainty though so it's not super noticeable). I'd not read anything about this theory until DOL and I tend to be inclined to believe that in our case it has affected growth.
  12. In the heat of the moment I'm not sure what I'd do, both OH and I have (stupidly) picked our 4kg boy up before (putting everyone at more risk as dog jumps up to get to the little moving chew toy!). I've fished Timmy out of the mouth of an enormous Dane type cross once who was playfully mouthing him to figure out what this (2kg / 6 month old) "thing" was. I shudder to think what would've happened if he wasn't friendly. I guess it's just gut reaction but I'd say I would do almost anything to protect my boy - he's my world.
