My training clothes are chosen with a great deal of care...must have pockets my hands can slide in and out of
-
Yep have to agree neat and tidy with a clean well groomed dog shows you care. Doesn't mean you have to get dressed up... appropriate for the occasion. I'm a bit of a dag in that I like matching collars and leads and I'm very particular about no flapping clothing. Lots of times I see novice people in the ring with a flapping coat with ties flipping in the dogs face

Pockets and a remote jackpot works for me! A bum bag or treat pouch is just too much of a visual cue.

According to my vet (who is also a greyhound vet) its quite common in racing greyhounds and usually doesn't adversely affect them. He called it a sprung toe and there wasn't any treatment considered unless its an outside toe that continues to be damaged in which case they routinely amputate it.

The big circle with the scented one in the middle fools Brookie every time! He's always hated treading on the articles and its worse with the cloths so the middle one is difficult for him. Haven't had a triangle yet. The worst is the stewards fiddling around and shifting scent pools and hanging on to one article more than the others. I think it was much easier when they had tongs and there was only the Judges scent to find.

Congratulations Murve Brilliant stuff

Australian Obedience Team At Crufts 2012?
bedazzledx2 replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Pax how far apart were the sendaway markers? (I mean the distance between the markers) I saw the black tubs but it was hard to judge the distance due to the telephoto effect of the video. They looked a lot closer together on the dog Championship but again it could be an optical illusion. -

Welcome back Pax and the other team members! Wow what an experience!!! Well done to all of you -
Go to the Breeders Community... Aussie breeders are pretty good at networking and identifying their litters. Hope he finds his home soon...goodonya for caring.

How Old Have Your Last Dogs Lived?
bedazzledx2 replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ruby, working kelpie, station bred. Lived till she was 16 and 2 months. Had bladder cancer and was given her wings when it became too advanced. I would have her again in a heartbeat. -
Congratulations Ptolomy! You and Scoota are an amazing team and I'm sure Val is smiling

Bossy Dog And Young Pup
bedazzledx2 replied to chookchook's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My older BC was very rough on the puppy who was in his face and took a loooong time to read the signs! I had to step in and even then Zac copped a few snaps which drew blood. Combination of a grumpy old man and a young pushy pup Supervision at all times is the key until the pup grows up a bit I think. -
What a fun night we had. Well done Ptolomy...yep that sure was ugly but it was CLEAR Brookie had a blast, no quallies but hey  Caffy and Snazzy were the absolute stars of tonights agility Brilliant runs with superb handling...WTG

Why is that cheating kath? That's what I would like to train although I guess it wouldn't be good practice for Police type tracking ;)
-
Good luck kathq! Just wondering what you are training for the indication? A pause, position or retrieve? Its something I would be concerned about potential confusion in UD / UDX. I did see a lot of dogs who had done tracking indicate the correct scent article in UD but failed to retrieve it or looked very confused. Probably unclear training but still....
-
Unfortunately a lot of it is blurry...not a bad thing as its not that flattering of me I hate looking at myself on video. If I can just edit me out and show Brookie I'd be happy I think the auto focus was having trouble with the advertising around the UDX ring. Funny the exercise he failed is crystal clear and you can hear Mum's expletive!!! Yes the scent patterns are starting to get interesting....for a long while we only had the standard box pattern and now we are getting lines up the ring, a Y pattern and last nights the judge called it an umbrella! I'm dreading the X... must train for that
-
I wish I could bottle last nights UDX performance It was a non quallie as he sat on my return after distance control. Such a difference from the night before where you wouldn't think he'd been trained for the class at all What a difference 24 hours can make!!!! The judge told me afterwards he had only lost two points so a bitter sweet round, but I am soooo happy he was happy!!!!

Day two of the Classic and Brookie has his mojo back!!! After a pretty ordinary start on Thursday he pulled it together tonight and he worked his little socks off:-) Lovely, happy enthusiastic work!!! Win in Open 196, 2nd in UD 190 and a pearler of a UDX round with just one hiccup costing us a 198 quallie. He sat on my return after Distance Control but otherwise an awesome round and 1st place nq. The prizes? Mugs... AGAIN!

MG don't write Gibbs off just yet... After his surgery and recuperation you may find he can excell in the non jumping classes of obedience and Rally. And you are becoming a better handler all the time..dont write yourself off either ;)

Average Price Of A German Shepherd?
bedazzledx2 replied to angelnkids's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds like the beginning of a wonderful adventure GSD's are highly intelligent and well suited to the performance sports also. Obedience training is a must for any dog and if you catch the bug you can work towards titles as well. Go to the Dogs West site http://www.dogswest.com/ for more options and clubs that are close to you. -
What size dog are you feeding? Personally I don't like knuckle bones for larger dogs as I worry about blockages etc. Mine are used to eating the whole bone and will guts down anything. Fine for the little guys though.

Absolutely agree with this. My Aussie, Brooklyn, is my heart dog and we have shared the greatest highs imaginable. He came to me at 9 months and was beautifully socialised with a great temperament. You can see what you get in an older pup.
