Have you tried capturing it? It means carrying a clicker and treats around for a while but when you notice her standing you can click and treat. You can say stand softly as you do it but remember its not a command. She may start offering it to make you click and then you can move on from there. I would also look at your luring technique....

I did a search when my 2 horrible dogs got into 400 grams of dark chocolate packed with sultanas and came across this http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...amp;hl=sultanas The vet was more concerned about the chocolate but I was glad they went for an expensive chuck up!!!! (after hours of course) And that's the rub. We know why chocolate is a no-no and we know the effect that onions can have. Grapes are a different ballgame. Truth is after a lifetime of grape (and macadamia nut and avocado) eating dogs I am yet to be personally convinced on this one. I would like to know for starters if there are any recorded cases of grape toxicity ourside of the US. Anyone got any verified case histories?

I have known 2 standard poodles who contracted mange after coming into contact with foxes. It was easily treated but they lost a bit of coat and the concern was transmitting it to the child in the household and an elderly relative...the vet was concerned about that. Speak to your vet about preventatives and what to look for.

Definitely going to be a City Farmers. Going to put a bit of pressure on Better Pets and Gardens I think. The service at Midland's Better Pets is fantastic so I'll still be going there!

I think I've heard that one....some bits are rude!!!!! Yes Poor tobes, I have been doing this for a year with my two, undercover markets, Primary Schools at drop off times, fronts of shopping centres, anywhere where people are!! Fairs and footy are good places as well, mine are still people cautious but thats just the breed and the lack of puppy socialisation as youngsters, hangin there its a big road but it does get better! I also have a great CD of 101 unusual noises I play to them on odd instances!

Teaching A Dog To Eat Things On Command
bedazzledx2 replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not as elegant as shaping but it gets the job done! Theoretically, I think there shouldn't be any, and I've never heard of any, but your Mandela seems to obey medical laws of his very own sometimes, doesn't he? So probably a good idea to introduce his new meds one by one. I didn't know he had spondyosis too, though? Staff'n'toller - good idea, when I graduate! I'm not sure if whole green lipped mussels are within my budget right now. I might have a hunt about for the powder though, that's a good idea. Between her pentosan, her glucosamine, her fish, her E, and now her mussel, the poor girl is going to rattle when she walks. Bedazzled, that's a very cunning idea. I was just working on the doggy zen-type principle of "see this amazing treat that you really really want? Well, you can have it if you eat this other thingy first". Your way sounds faster, though. -
WTG Millie! She is going really well and you should be very proud! Ruby is just a bit slower to mature Ruby's heelwork was lovely (just a little hiccup having to say hi to the stewards!!) and her retrieve over the jump was fabulous Brookie was a good boy and won UD and Open on 196 and 198. Scooter's UD round was gorgeous...just a missed sit in the box the only hiccup. Great day's trialling all round I think ;) I literally held Millie's Qually card in front of Ruby and said "IN YOUR FACE!" I think Millie is going to be the obedience dog I hoped Ruby will be... but I won't be giving up on blondie just yet!!

Does she get raw bones at all? You need to add soft raw bone that she can consume, chicken and turkey necks are good. No dinosaur bones with the marrow as that is way too high in fat. I agree that she doesn't need the rice or pasta. I would cut out potatoes but add sweet potatoes instead. Raw carrots are great as well.

Teaching A Dog To Eat Things On Command
bedazzledx2 replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My BC has a sensitive tummy but doesn't react to glucosamine. I have him on a BARF diet with fish oil and Sasha's blend or Joint Guard. Slippery Elm is good for gut problems. I have taught all my dogs to take tablets in treats from puppyhood. I rattle the pill bottle and give a soft treat. Rinse and repeat many many times and then when they are keen and anticipating the treats you add a vitamin pill or fish oil. They are so used to gobbling up the treat that the pill just gets swallowed along with it. Ahhhh. Good luck, Staranais. I hope it does the trick to keep her right - I know you well enough to know that she'll not go a wanting for anything that would help her. I will be putting my boy on glucosamine soon too, for his spondylosis. I'm only holding off because I wanted to introduce his new meds one at a time and try to get his digestive system working better first. I'm not sure of the affects (if any) by glucosamine on a sensitive tummy. Do you? -
How Often Do You Feed Sardines And Eggs?
bedazzledx2 replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sometime when you're bored and want entertainment give your dogs a whole raw egg in the shell. If they are not experienced it can be very interesting to see how they go about getting the goodies out. My Aussie got it pretty quickly and now is very neat and carefull to make a small crack and lick the insides out. My BC is still confused by the whole thing! He knows there is good stuff in there but he is really reluctant to crack the shell and carries it around for a while, paws it and carries on until he cracks it by accident! Neither of them will eat the shell BTW -
Crufts obedience winner this year is an Aussie!!!! Looks like GR's are the hit for obedience over there! The last two winners were labs. Im off to bed, I will probably have dreams of dogs heeling beatifully. Today I have watched sooooo many youtube clips of obidience I think I finally have in my head what a good heel position looks like. Quick question though, in a front are points deducted if the dog touches you? Better not. I think Ruby should earn bonus points for targeting my crotch quite nicely with her nose They can touch you, but if they crowd you TOO much, some judges can penalise. And yep, saw the 2 Labs, but the majority were Goldies! Numerous handlers/dogs winning more than one year as well

Glad she was able to help CC. You are welcome to introduce him to Brooklyn any time. He is great with other dogs.
-
Yep I agree with your instructor. Take your hands out of the picture and teach him to find front. Have a look at some American obedience on youtube and you'll see that they have to have their hands at their sides. In some ways I think it may become clearer to the dog.

How Often Do You Feed Sardines And Eggs?
bedazzledx2 replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed a whole frozen sardine 2 or three times a week. I've just been given 2 dozen organic duck eggs. Anyone know if I can feed them to the dogs and how many? -
I would love to see that Kelpie in obedience!!!!

Poor Lilly!!! I hope she recouvers well. Its always scary having a GA with the oldies and like you I try my hardest not to subject them to that. I would be asking if last time she had any of the tests normally done these days before putting them under GA (liver function etc). Big hugs to her.

It could also be a body space issue and as you pointed out earlier he has a bigger personal space bubble than most smaller dogs. Having Ostio is a complication as you wouldn't want to do too many drills. With the leaning against a wall...keep you body straight and stiff with your legs slightly apart just like a recall position but lean you shoulders back against the wall to encourage him to come closer. You could also spit food as was suggested by someone else. I normally hate that but in your case your hands just don't present the right place for the food to come from!!!! Try capturing and clicking only those sits that are tucked in rather than rocked back whatever position you are in. I would also play the two food game to get him driving in. You will get what you reward so if you reward the rocked back distant sits in training even through the recall was fast...thats what you'll get so try for only the best ones.

What's Something Universally Mildly Aversive?
bedazzledx2 replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LOL Thats how they get their pills. I trained them that way....rattle a pill bottle give a treat, do this a few times. Now its rattle a pill bottle...dogs come running, poke a pill in a treat and its inhaled! I feed BARF and all their fish oil capsules and supplements just get thrown in the bowl and eaten completely. No fussiness in this household!!!! -
You entered Tiggy? Really small numbers in obedience and agility partly due to the fact that the August trial is so soon after the July trial and cost is a factor these days. Also there are retrieving trials on the same weekend and a few people who would normally go to Gero for the obedience and agility are retrieving.

Kathy is great and really knows her stuff. I would recommend her also.
