Most dogs are more demanding of your time and attention than a big back yard. I have working breeds and am soon to have another working kelpie and I am only on 1/2 acre. That said, I take my dogs to some sort of training most days and find that mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise. Most dogs will sleep during the day until you come home anyway so if you have a schedule of walking or training when you get home I reckon you'll be fine.

That's just wrong!!!! The Twinkle-Toed Tollers could wear these http://www.softpaws.com/ :p Had a lovely walk round Riverside gardens today, we were virtually the only dogs there, it's becoming my fav place to take them I'll miss it when we move to cottesloe, I had a drive past the dog park near where we'll be moving to - big warning signs about dugites in the reserve backing on to the off-leash area

Mine is not technically permanently plumbed, but what I have done is to have the hydrobath (which has a bypass drain) close to the door and the waste hose runs under the door (have cut a very small section out of the corner of the door) and out to the drain just outside. I also have it close to taps plumbed in with a hose with fresh hot and cold water connected to a hose with a shower head on it. This means I can hydrobath the dog, change plugs over to the bypass and then rinse with clean running warm water. I am a big believer in rinsing really well with clean running water especially for dogs with allergies or sensitive skin. A mud room is on my list of must haves for a new place!!!!

Yep! Those are the things I like too. We rarely get prizes but it does happen. So far I've won a cooler bag (obviously a freebie as it has Advance written on it, but I don't care!) and a bag of Advance food. I think it's nice to get sponsors to donate things like that. Free for the club to give away, advertising for the product, and the entrant walks away with goodies -
:p ;) ;) Aren't we all (we as in the DOlers who have been in the WA thread posting all day ;) ) I wouldn't get any work done if I could go on DOL at work :D Ptolomy you should do a group dancing number with the red kids Shall we call them "Ptolomy and the Twinkle-Toed Tollers"?

Don't you think this a little extreme?????? The dog has a history of random re-enforcement which cements in behaviour quite nicely. Now a good trainer can modify this behaviour with positive re-enforcement so that he learns that other people means the reward comes from his owner and later modify that again to certain (trained) circumstances. Correction without careful teaching will result in a confused dog and who could blame him?

Well kinda.... If you can imagine a number 10 clipper blade (short) without the cutting blade and put that on a handle. Its good for shortish double coated dogs...labs, kelpies etc. Its an old groomers trick fancied up and works really well! its like a metal comb with teeth which pick up the loose, dead hair from the coat as you brush with the *what's the word rofl* same as shaving lol go with the way of the coat Ok disclaimer i am sleep deprived and brain isn't working lol or i am having a bad blonde brain fart moment. i love it to remove the dead yucky coat leaves them sleek and shiny

Too many trips down the hill!!!! I reckon twice a week plus weekends is enough! Come summer I'll probably swap Tuesdays for Mondays again and pick on you!!!! :D And why aren't you training Mondays anymore It's all yours, emery
-
Your the first and nobody PM me. Maybe you can share with RubyStar when she needs to do the ET I'll put it in the car and if you see me at training either Tuesday or Wednesday nights come and let me know. I'll be at the Cloverdale trial as well. When I bought my bike I had the seat swapped for a very luxurious gel one. I have never had a sore bum, no matter how far I've ridden. is it still available bedazzled how much it sounds great ;) i get sore ridining to the shops rofl
-
This one goes over the existing seat. I came across it today when I was sorting the dog stuff out! Cost me a bit at the time but I'm giving it away to the first taker. When I bought my bike I had the seat swapped for a very luxurious gel one. I have never had a sore bum, no matter how far I've ridden.

I have a gel seat for a bike if anyone wants it.... Nice padding for the bum!!!!

A simple way to test your recall is to get someone to deliberately try and break it! Let her off leash (or on a long line which would be my preference) and allow her to get a fair distance from you and then get someone to entice her as you call her. If she immediately breaks off and races back to you... great! If she doesn't then you have your answer. You can up the anti with the friend enticing with another dog, food or toys...whatever floats her boat. This is the only way you can proof a recall and don't forget that if she comes back to you reward her with the absolute bestest stuff!!!!!

:p 6 points for soggy...0 points from the fashion police!!! ;) YES ;) :D :p If it's cause they are short on people (and i can't belive I am saying this) even though I have never been involved in organizing a trial and don't know too much about obidience I am happy to help. I would like to think in a few years I can have Lincoln in the Western Classic for showing, obidience and agility. I will be happy to help out. Today was a good day for me, (no Q I couldn't see anyone to hold my food for me so I left it outside the ring and Toby decided he would really rather run back to his crispy bacon then over a jump ) BUT I did get him to play tug twice for about 5 seconds with lots of other dogs and people around and he will happily play with his isqueak no matter how many people are about! I also got to handle Cider in the show ring wearing 3/4 trackypants, sneakers and a suit jacket that I luckily had in my car! ;) 6 points for the soggybear!!! Plus I got puppy Irish Setter cuddles and James cuddles! ;)

....and you are perfectly entitled to a good whinge too!!!!!!! It was a fund raiser trial and I always do extra well at fund raisers when there is nothing on offer Out of interest what do people prefer? Free entry for the next trial, money, gifts as in cooler bags etc or trophy's? Me I like the cooler bags and stuff.
-
Might just take you up on that valley YES If it's cause they are short on people (and i can't belive I am saying this) even though I have never been involved in organizing a trial and don't know too much about obidience I am happy to help. What she said Try this link http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/Lesson6.html I wouldn't use a long line in an offleash area with a lot of other users. A leash only area would be the place to start. Or a dog training club - ever thought of joining one?

Woo Hoo!!! Congratulations  Good girl Kenz....hope mummy gave you a nice big jackpot!!!!

Poor dog! Wouldn't a martingale be better? -
Very good kids indeed!!!! UD is a tricky class for anyone let alone the dogs new into it. Any success is worth celebrating as you're in there for the duration and the dogs need to be kept confidant. Kinta did very well too...congratulations
-
Don;t forget the group stand!!! UD....Perfect one day...crap the next!!!!! Another broken exercise - so far you have had seekback, box, scent and now signals - hate to tell you that just leaves GLOVES Best of luck tomorrow night.
