Yes you leave the collar on the dog. Martingales are an approved collar for the obedience ring.

Thats how I use it too TerraNik. I can't imagine putting it on so tightly that it has to stay at the top of the neck. Its a limited slip so not really designed to be a correction collar.

Poor baby!!!!! my guys will take a couple off your hands Thanks Amy ST wants to watch some novice jumping Also does anyone's dog eat cow hooves? I brought a bag of them for my dogs and Lincoln is terrified of them He peed himself when I got one out the bag and spent the rest of the afternoon slinking around with his tail between his legs until I put them in the shed

Teaching Back End Awareness

I prefer shaping but you could initially lure him on and click when both feet are on. Sometimes just moving your own position relative to him can cause him to put both paws on. -
Depends entirely on you and the dog! They are often recommended for Staffy's as they fit over the boofy heads ( :p ) but if you never let the dog perfect the backwards head flip then you shouldn't have a problem.

Congratulations Xena with all your successes with your kids....well deserved :p

The only reason I use mine is because its pretty and it matches my lead!!!! :p I never use it as a training collar just as I never use the lead other than an attachment to me. They are useful for dogs that flip out of a normal fixed collar. I would never leave a martingale collar on....either no collar or a fixed collar.

No horse for my guys!!!! I never buy 'steak' because it could contain anything! Silly I know but I just draw the line at that. Sounds like I need to take a trip to this A&D petfoods They are great they have chicken, beef, lamb, roo and horse mince and occasionally I can get goat from them too. Then they do the chicken, beef, lamb or roo cooked liver meatballs, no preservatives they just have liver and veggies - perfect for training. They also do assorted bones and dried treat and their prices are very very good

Well done Jess Brookie also missed a position in Open today which gave him a second place. They can all have brain fart moments but as you say, the most important thing is to keep the great attitude.

Well done Sue & Cindy On to Novice now...hope you're training for Open!!!!

Depends on what I'm working on at the time. Usually I work out a plan of what I want to do and when I want to reward and then ask someone to call it for me.

Lets Talk About Recall
bedazzledx2 replied to ILoveBoundaries's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes you are right and I am a positive trainer and no I don't use a shock collar. When I found this method I had a naughty, naughty, naughty Kelpie around 8 months of age who had not been taught a proper recall... only a namby pamby club/ trial type one which didn't hold up in real life!!!!! So she had been self rewarding by ignoring me and enjoying games with other dogs and kids while I was yelling and tearing my hair out!!!! I never needed to go to extremes with this because, like most dogs, she was sane but not well trained (my bad!) I think shock collars belong in the professionals hands for very few dogs. My recall mantra is first time, every time!!!!! Bedazzled I was fairly sure that you were a positive trainer so I'm thinking that you never had to get to the e-collar stage - do correct me if I'm wrong. Since you have used this program before do you have any suggestions of what you would do if you did have a dog that got to the e-collar stage without using an e-collar?
