Wolves In Chinese Cresteds Clothing

My thoughts exactly!!!! I'm a bit snake sensative this time of year! And the poor dogs wouldn't have lasted long had it been a snake!! -

I used to have a Siamese who just loved messing with the dogs. I would put a box out for UD sendaway and he would go sit in it I used to use him for distraction training as he wouldn't leave us alone! What is it with ginger cats! I used to train obedience with my first BC Sam down at a friend's place, to work against distraction such as their boys playing soccer with my other dog - nt a problem. Their lovely ginger momma cat used to wander out into the paddock to 'help'. She enjoyed being a figure of 8 post - and would also race after the dumbbell, and then sit beside it. No way was my wussy dog going anywhere near her . Messing with humans' heads (and dogs' heads) is a pretty powerful motivator for them too ;)

Giving The Right Amount Of Information
bedazzledx2 replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I hate dog parks with a passion...my local oval has been overtaken with well meaning but essentially canine ignorant people with out of control dogs. I now travel 50 minutes to our Canine centre in order to train/run my dogs in a more controlled setting. My answer to Corvus was based on my experience of people at Canine asking so they are far more dog savvy than the average Joe Public. I personally know of a couple of dogs who if given the smallest treat containing beef or beef byproduct would be in great discomfort due to allergies so I have been well educated not to treat other dogs without permission first! -
So true!!! :p

Giving The Right Amount Of Information

I usually break it down and try to focus on what the person wants from the dog. When it becomes too general (which it usually does) I ask them to pick one thing they want to work on and go from there. Splitting works for people too!!!! -
Did you get mine? I'm having problems with some of my PM's not being received.

Oh I know the problem well!!! I always wanted built in crates and shelves and stuff but that's no good if you want to keep it as a car with room for people! sigh

Wishful thinking!!! We also don't get the sea breeze up in the Hills...by the time it gets here its a pathetic puff of hot air!! Love a good Easterly on a summer's night!!! The problem with summer is not the daytime temps so much (mid 30s are usual with spikes up to low 40s and very occasional days in the low 30s ) rather it is the fact that it doesn't cool down much overnight (low 20s for night time temps) and you have days on end of heat Emery, it used to be true that WA didn't get the humidity, but over recent years that seems to have changed :D Apparently though we are going to have a mild wet summer ;) Of course we were also meant to have a wet winter... and a wet spring.... ;)

....and the problem with that is??????

Brilliant stuff!!!! Huge congratulations!!!!!

Might be a old husbands tale but I seem to remember that snakes hate Naphthalene (moth balls) You could try researching it and if so liberally sprinkle moth balls on the OUTSIDE approach to you pen area. Bear in mind that naphthalene is toxic to dogs and cats so you would have to be careful about it and re-apply if it rains.

My boy was a show dog for his first year (and a bit more) but had not been taught to sit until I got him at around 9 months. For a long time his default position was stand and look pretty! Lots of training and trials under the belt later and its not an issue but if I have another dog that was destined for both showing and obedience I think I would train both early. Once the position is on cue you shouldn't have a problem.

Teaching Back End Awareness
bedazzledx2 replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Very good point there RubyStar. For shaping games I tend to use a phrase like 'ya wanna play?' which means to offer stuff and sometimes, if its not what I want, I'll say 'try again' which means to try something different. The dog has to understand the game for this to mean anything and a NRM could shut a soft dog down before he even gets started. -
Congratulations :o When is your next trial? That was Tash with Emily. They have worked so hard and really deserved it. A huge congratulations to all the winners and new title holders. There have been some excellent results this year. We have a little brag. Dee got her second novice pass last night with a score of 182, which earnt her a first place in novice on a count back (3 dogs participated, two scratched) and a highest score in trial (7 competitors excluding 4 scratchings). She lost most of her points in the healing as I kept running her into the rope. Perfect score of 30 for change of position, stand for exam and the stays, lost a few for the finish on the recall (34/40) and got 28 for the heeling. Very proud of my clever girl One more to go

Well basically anyone who has food..... as evidenced the other night at agility training.... a friend had a frankfurt left over and she asked if Brookie could have it...I said to make him do something for it first. Well he is just an obedience slut!!!! heeling...signals anything!!!! I'm not proud Yep it is interesting - how do officials know if somebody is or isn't tuning the horse?? Does it bother you that you dog wont work for anybody else, or maybe I should be asking it is something you would keep working at??? Do you others work only for you too??? Once again I am not inferring its a good or bad thing .........just getting some thoughts happening......
