  1. Arrrggghhh!!!!! UDX has driven me to drink!!! After a week of perfect Judges scent I thought he got it.....nope!!!! Can do it anywhere but not at our k0 grounds. On the plus side tonights sendaway was the best ever!
  2. Sorry we missed each other at Esperance! Had a great time there though The dog club is thriving with several classes going on different ovals and it was great to be able to set up some UDX stuff and practice in another location with lots of other dogs around but who are under control. Not so easy and the opportunity to play was much appreciated. You're right about entry fees going up! Lots of people opted out of the Albany trial this year due to the increased fees and I think they lost a fair amount of money because of that. They said they would be looking at reducing the fees for next year...hopefully!
  3. A signal I like to see from both dogs is to break off and shake. I've observed this with all my dogs when they play boisterously. Its a kind of time out signal and if I see that occasionally I'm happy.
  4. I'll fess up here....I wagged school to see the original production of HAIR!!!! Was worth it too! You will love it! I have been to many musicals and have found them all entertaining - even Cats! But that was in London so was maybe a better performance I've been to a few. Been to Grease, Dirty Dancing, Jesus Christ Superstar??, Boy from Oz, hmmm what else! I know there's been others. Well, there was Cats.... but I would gladly wipe that one from memory Think Dirty Dancing was my fave!
  5. :) :o (Know how you feel ) Yes but not with this little ball of frustration and now I know why!!!!! We are having a few days off where hopefully latent learning will magically appear and when I try again on Saturday all problems will have magically disappeared. Bedazzled is going to read this when she comes home and laugh
  6. That'd be great! We'll be down there for around 5 days....not sure what day we're leaving Esperance....maybe Saturday or Sunday 27th or 28th. Remind me of the address of your grounds again and training times? Hey Bedazzled Let me know when you are down. If you are here on a Saturday come down to training and take advantage of our gear
  7. Ypu going to Albany for the trial/show? I'm doing the obedience on Saturday and then going down to Esperance to visit my sister....really looking forward to the break!! ETA I replied before I read the rest of the thread...oops! Will look out for you if you visit the trial grounds.
  8. At least you have judges scent!!! We have 2 good exercises...the rest.....
  9. Thanks for the link newfsie. Did you find much difference in your pick puppy at week 5 to week 7?
  10. You can, and should be, doing ground work for agility now. No jumping other than jump humps, but you can do low contacts, wobble board for balance, running large circles both right and left with you and teaching front and rear crosses on the ground. This means both of you are prepared for later when you can do the big stuff and it should come easy.
  11. I hope its just a minor injury. I have been there with Brookie and thankfully it turned out to be a toe injury. I know how you feel right now. Fingers crossed
  12. I was looking to get the next dog and had planned on going to the Royal Show to check out all the breeds when I got a call from my sister who was managing a Station up North with her partner. Did I want a working Kelpie puppy? I said yes so she picked the best bitch pup for me. WOW!!! WAY TOO MUCH DOG!!!! I had no idea what to do with this naughty puppy!!!!! She pushed all my buttons, tested every boundery and was soooo naughty!!! I used to go down to my local oval to give her a run and one day at around 6 months of age she decided NOT to come back when I called her! Well I had read all about this training stuff....you pretend you're interested in something on the ground....nuthing! You run in the opposite direction....nope! OK...I'll hide behind a tree... Drive off around the oval????? Furry finger supreme!!!!!! Think I'd better train this dog!!!! She taught me so much and despite my at times inept training skills, she got her UD and ADM and JDM which were the only agility titles available at the time. She was smart and annoying to the end at age 16 years and I would have her again in a heartbeat!!!!! The old lament.... If I knew then what I know now..... I have had a couple of Borders and now an Aussie who is truly my heart dog but I have a special place in my heart for another Kelpie.... watch this space
  13. Poor Mason! Ask the vet about using fly repellent as you don't want fly's attacking it
  14. Well Brookie is as dumb as a plank!!! I love him dearly but.... I like your Srat Pairs UDX suggestion....Positions in motion are lovely...um Distance Control....that's about it folks...any takers???!!!
  15. LOL comments from the public at the Perth Royal....."I don't like it when they cut off Border Collie's tails"!!!!!! I just tell them its so that they don't sweep off the wine glasses on the coffee table!!!!!
  16. Well I did open my mouth the other day....I asked a lady the breeding of her BC bitch which she happily told me and then said she was going to let her have a litter even though she had signed a non breeders agreement, but that didn't matter because she didn't intend to show :( I couldn't help myself and told her as tactfully as I could, that there could be a very good reason for that agreement and did she know about CL and DNA tests etc??? I think (hope) I got through to her as she said "oh well maybe I won't then...just thought it would be nice for her to have a litter!!!! Makes you wonder doesn't it! Went to the markets on Saturday and there in the 'pet shop' was a litter of Akita x Border Collie pups :p cute but so not the mix for the average Joe Public. Yeah, its just not worth it sometimes. I'm always conscious not to sound pushy which is probably why I do get so frustrated. I'm always too worries I'll sound rude or offend someone.
  17. I've got one of those....his name is 'Perfect' and he's my 200 dog!!!!! I dont think she is coming Katie. I am just bringing one dog too!! Don't you only have one or is there something you need to tell us :p Lol, I have one dog and 2 cats, but I take my ghost dog to seminars and stuff and he is the one i use to demonstrate how much work we have been doing lol !!
  18. Its not just colour....you'll find a difference in body shape too. I was therefore very curious about why two tones are still technically within the standard but are generally never considered show-quality? Is this because: two tones are less conforming to standard in other aspects? it is not permitted for a working line Kelpie to be 'shown' and it's easier to maintain a distinction between show and working line using colours? the intention is to eventually create different breeds that are distinguishable from one another? What makes solid colours 'better' in terms of showing, given that there must have been a reason why the solid colours were given preference. As far as I know, while the dilute colours among Kelpies can have alopecia, there aren't any other traits (health or temperament) associated with the colours. I'm not trying to stir up debate about show vs working line - just curious about reasons for certain decisions, whether they were motivated by cosmetics, health-reasons, other reasons etc. Some photos .. Bench Kelpies Working Line Kelpies. I know that appearance varies a LOT among the working Kelpies - lots of colours from black through to light tan or cream and that some Kelpies have a white blaze on the chest. I've just picked out some two-tones ETA: Posted here rather than in the Kelpie sub-forum because although there are a lot of Kelpies in Australia, the Kelpie sub-forum is quiet quiet compared to other sub-fora on DOL.
  19. Congratulations ;) Well done the midget!!!!!
