  1. Straight line....what's that??!!! I have rescue remedy for me not the dog, and I do have vodka in the fridge maybe I should bring that?
  2. Poor baby! Is that Ann holding her? How long were you in for? Glad to hear she is nearly back to normal...what a fright. I'm restocking antihistamines today! I usually have them in the car but have used them all.
  3. Any chance of a video of your training? It's a bit hard to give specific advice without seeing the whole picture. A couple of things off the top of my head... It has to be rewarding for your dog. That reward does not always come in the form of food..it could be toys, playing with you or whatever floats his boat. Until you can get a good round in training without the big aids (food/toys) you are unlikely to get it in the ring. In the ring you do have biggest reinforcer....you! Try playing some little games or teach a hand touch and see if that revs him up. There is a lot more to secondary reinforcers but this can get you started.
  4. Congratulations everyone on your sucess. Our brag for the weekend is a PASS in UDX:-))) that's two down, one to go!
  5. Congratulations to Jo and Lewis (OSoSwift) who breezed in their ET yesterday and backed it up with an obedience quallie the next day! WTG
  6. It was an ugly round for Brookie but he qualified...yay!!!:D :D :D Terrific seek back with the decoy, missed a down in the normal heel work for the positions in motion so a sub there, did the pim though...good boy! lovely send away and recall to heel...all in all I'm pretty happy 2 down, one to go!
  7. Trying to find the article...can't remember where I read it but there was a scientific discussion postulating the maternal antibodies could still be active and counter vaccinations in 12 week old puppies which means that without a titre you wouldn't know if your pup was adequately covered, hence the need for the 16 month vaccination. Its a bit of a mine field I could be wrong but I think you'll find a lot of people do the 12 month booster (so really they are 14 months old), and then titre after that. I think pups need the booster 12 months after their puppy vacs in the bare minimum, and then titre test after that. As for the 3 yearly being more risky, currently don't have an opinion on that one besides I am happy to risk it as it's what the AVA recommend over yearly
  8. I always say that Brookie has Toller bits
  9. I hand fed my puppy's main meal from a very young age...it helps to promote a gentle mouth with respect for your fingers and I used it in a training scenario. I feed raw so a gob of BARF is a wonderful thing :D
  10. Woo Hoo we're on the board with a UDX pass Well done Scoota and Brooklyn
  11. He was lovely today...you should be pleased Fabulous recall
  12. LOL Coming out of the lift at Myers a few years ago I heard a guy muttering under his breath "forward...right turn..." I did have a chuckle I have been known to walk around the office, suddenly think to myself "HALT!" then make sure I stop with the right footwork. People must think I'm crazy!
  13. Well the boys were wonderfull today!!!! Raising a glass to Scoota and Brooklyn :champagne: Have to say its been a while since I've felt the nerves but I nearly fumbled the last leather in MR
  14. I took videos of the pups and Mum and Dad before I chose Zac. When he was about 12 weeks old we looked at the videos again and he immediately went over to the TV to check it out. He is a kelpie so hard wired to notice movement. I had another dog years ago (BC) that got quite obsessed with the TV so I have not encouraged any interaction with subsequent dogs.
  15. When I can get them they are from a pet food supplier here in WA. They do goat, roo, turky plus lamb beef and chicken. The sheeps horns are dried as they would really stink otherwise!!! Pretty hard to get though...I have a standing order for when they come in. Oh! Where do you get those?!
  16. Dunno how thats going to go with our new rules...don't think the Kiwi's have a wee-saw
  17. I much prefer sheep horns if you can get them...pretty scarce at the moment. My dogs love the cow hooves but the edges are very sharp and we've had skinned noses and bloody gums from them.
  18. Well we failed the down in positions in motion again! I have changed from a signal to a verbal and today I was confident he would do it, only to about turn and see him in a sit!!! ARGHHHH!!!!! He did a wonderful sendaway despite my expectations of it going to crap as it had the day before!!! We got the about turn, right turn, call your dog which meant he wouldn't have seen my left hand to call him to heel so I used my right hand and he responded beautifully! (have only done that once in training) The judge had a brain fade and put the Multiple retrieve out 15 meters and we failed it but I don't know if he would have got it at correct distance. Didn't matter today as he had already failed. I just hate that last exercise!!!
  19. Well done Tassie....lots to be pleased about
  20. Woo Hoo!!! Congratulations Rubystar! What a fantastic day you had  Scoota was wonderful and back to his old self. Good on Miss Beans! She can pull it out when it matters...goood girl!!!
  21. Have you tried the steady feet game? Its a stay after all and can be transfered to a sit. Its along the lines of its your choice. I posted an explanation in the stand for examination thread a few days ago.
  22. Bugga!!!! We've had one of those! I suspect tomorrows sendaway will be an issue judging on our training round today! I use metal as when I trained it I was thinking a moving scent discrimination and it was the most logical article to use that said sd. He's been successful with metal so I'm not looking to change. Why are you thinking of changing kallistar?
  23. Tic is right...if you are going to do obedience then you really don't want to encourage her to drop it at your feet. nothing more demoralizing than doing a terrific round and have an article or dumbbell dumped at your feet!!!! What's a bit of slobber anyway...suffer for your art  On the other hand if you are not bothered about obedience then by all means teach a 'drop it' command. If she is clicker savy you could click and she should drop it in order to get her treat. If you haven't used the clicker then do a bit of fun stuff first so she gets that a click will always get a treat and she will anticipate which is exactly what you want.
  24. Let the fun begin!!! Congratulations Ptolomy and Strauss...I'll drink to that
