Arghhh!!! Bloody puppy chewed the plug of my Dyson! he's been having a lovely time chewing deer antlers so I didn't notice when he moved on to the electric plug!

I use a wooden one. Go to Bunnings and get a sample tin of outdoor gloss white and a cheapo brush.

Drink more wine!!!! :D Change of position I practice on a step or in front of a barrier to prevent the creep forward.

We call the round the back one the continental turn...ive also heard it called the military turn but then I've also heard the footwork for the about turns called a military turn (ugly and old fashioned), The continental LAT was the only one used for many years and I think it was the influence of the UK trainers who were responsible for the introduction of the left U turn which requires the dog to remain at heel and execute the same turn as the handler, rather than the dog doing another right about, as in the continental. The continental has largly fallen out of favor as it requires your dog to move out of heel position and also as Tassie said, many agility trainers don't want their dogs going behind the handler. I also don't like that because it's generally taught on lead, you have to pass the lead behind your back but when the lead comes off many people don't fade the hand cues and the dog is left floundering. I remember when the flip finish came in because I wrote a submission for it from WA when a rules review came in...probably around 15 years ago...wow! doesn't time fly?!!

No UDX quallies this weekend both days he was confused about multiple retrieve...longish grass and not really visible so he did his default which is to not leave my side. On the plus side he did superb seek back both days, excellent wash cloths and really great sendaways. I entered Open both days and he did terrific rounds scoring 197 and 196 so happy with that. :D

Brook has trouble with some people...others he finds easy...go figure! The biggest issue we have is that he doesn't like going to the middle of the pattern and most judges do seem to put the scented one in the middle! The last trial we had two stewards putting out the cloths...one was teaching the other so we effectively had four scents out there!!! (my residual scent, two stewards and the Judge) I wasn't confident as this is his bogey exercise but he was fine. Something else I have found is that sometimes the steward will hang on to one cloth while re-arranging the others so we have varying degrees of hot scent and if he comes to that cloth first....disaster! I much prefer the old way of placing the cloths with tongs...much less to go wrong.

I would not consider Brooklyn to be inherently high drive....he is just as happy to cuddle up on the lounge as he is to be doing stuff with me. Zac, on the other hand, is very high drive...I asked for the rat bag puppy and that's what I got!!! I think you need to look for biddable and a puppy that wants to be with you...trust your breeder and do some puppy tests as others have suggested.

Just thought I'd come in here and mention that the worst part about jumping is the landing particularly on shoulder joints, so whilst you shouldn't allow any jumping at all for the time being..be very particular about not allowing jumping down off furniture or out of the car.

Thanx for the birthday wishes:D ...haven't gone to bed yet so must still be my birthday...? ;) had a nice lunch with Mum while waiting for the tyres to be fitted for the trip to Geraldton on the weekend. Good training session with Ptolomy and co..dessert at Dome and back to training where we broke, then fixed up the dreaded multiple retrieve!

Awesome dog...definitely reminds me of Moo!

Congrats wuffles and murve....way to go!!!

Bugga about being broken into Ptolomy. Glad everyone is ok..good boy Chevy!
-
She looks adorable! What a lot of fun you are both going to have

Agree with Ptolomy. Remember make haste slowly! Bad practice is much worse than no practice so for now I wouldn't ask anyone to do more than a limited approach with high rewards from you.

Natural Yoghurt For Dogs
bedazzledx2 replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We've just bought an EasiYo kit from Big W. Wow! Makes really nice Greek yogurt and you can add fruit and honey if you like. Dogs love it. I don't know if it's any cheaper, depends on specials and where you shop but it's nice to put it on before you go to bed and wake up to fresh yummy yogurt. -
Woo hoo!!! Congrats TN

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Brock. Such a devastating thing to happen. Hugs to you and your girls. RIP Brock

Sounds like you're on track murve Just be careful not to create a behavior chain with your second command for the drop. Can be a real bugga to fix later on! Suggest you use one cue word only and only give it once...if he doesn't do it you could give a NRM (non reward marker) oops! is a good one, and break off with neither praise nor admonishment. It's simply information to you dog that he got it wrong this time. Do it again and if he does it right Click/treat (or marker word "Yes" if you don't use a clicker) If you have to give more than two NRM's in a row then you need to back up and work on getting fluency and understanding. Take the downs out of formal heel work until you get this. Hoverdrops can be a pain

My cloth fairy doesn't always work so I'll send you my seekback fairy instead :D Good luck!!!

I picked Zac up from the farm and put him in the PP40 in the back. I figure it's best to start as you mean to continue. I guess I was lucky as he just slept for a couple of hours.
-
I saw this too and am intrigued. Zac has been heavily rewarded for perch work so is inclined to do the rear leg swing stuff. I think I can change that though. I need to start shaping him to back up onto a platform for agility so I'm a bit concerned about confusion...he is a boy after all ;) ;) I think the idea has merit and I'll have a little play with it tomorrow.

Sounds like he did a really good workout...congrats! Sometimes it's not about the qualifying but the attitude. All good for the next one buggar for you Ptolomy.. We got 27/30 SB with Decoy 29/40 PIM as we copped a sub for a missed down. Well the clothe fairy shone brightly for me :)30/30 Sendaway recall 30/30.. And the take up position wasn't in line with the cone, so I was very pleased that he did them as he turns right handed into the prescribed area Stupid handler flicked a down position in the DC and that was end of that. MR he was on auto pilot ( very happy boy) and went and got the wrong one. and of course 10 for the GE. In all I am happy as he worked with alot of enthusiaum (Sp?) and enjoyed his time in the ring.

Just back from the Qld State Obedience trials. It was really hot and of course we packed for cool weather...that was last week didn't pack the cool coats of course....duh!!! The boys did well with Ptolomy's Scoota putting in a nice UDX round with an interesting send away set up which confused the go out in a straight line concept...oh well! Brookie had an early hiccup in UDX and I pulled him out of UD so that left us with Open. He did quite well with a 195 score which tied for first place...came second on a count back. The last class of the day was the team events with Mav, Brookie and Scoota putting in near perfect rounds. They all did their group stays so after collating all rounds the results were in and.... Western Australia were declared the winners of the inaugural Teams Challenge :D Bubbly's flowing tonight :D
