  1. We had a Rally ring set up at the last obedience trial so I thought I would give it a bash with Brooklyn. I couldn't get my head around having him on lead so they allowed me to do it without. We had a blast and really enjoyed the challenge. The only bit that gave us grief was the left about turn when the dog goes behind the handler...Brook doesn't know this turn as we do a sharp U turn in obedience so I talked him around it but then momentarily lost my way! We lost one point for that little glitch and scored 99 for the course.
  2. I've got a working spot with the feral Kelpie child
  3. Ive replied on that list too. We need someone to host it and I think thats the problem as no-one has put their hand up to accommodate and transport and organise etc. I am not in a position to do so and I was really hoping one of the clubs would take it on. I would pay for a working spot and Im sure others would too.
  4. How do you warm your dog up for training? Like most of us, chances are you don't. Many's the time I seen dogs do their best work outside the ring and by the time it's your turn the dog has completely switched off. It's something you have to train for and it's worth practicing getting your dog out of the car or crate and doing a real quick warm up...a quick bit of doodling and into the ring (train it with just the start peg) and getting some terrific attention. Reward big time and work from there.
  5. My pup started doing this when I got Brooklyn out to train and I jumped on it quick smart...I don't like barking dogs and my BC used to get frantic and would exhaust himself in the car barking. I have Zac in a crate in the car and I cover the crate with a sheet. He's pretty good now but if he starts barking I just cover him with the sheet and he stops.
  6. Congratulations Jess I have a brag also. I received confirmation from Dogs West that Brookie has won Top Obedience Dog for 2010- 2011 pretty happy with that :D
  7. I'll bring some to training on Monday night (if it's not raining!) and you can smell for yourself Too hard to try and describe it...not floral ;)
  8. Not as such, but I did set up a big c crate (without a floor) in the lounge room with a big off cut of Lino I bought for $20 under it and fed his meals in it. He slept in it the first night and since and all his meals are stll fed in the crate. He looooves his crate! It has the door open all the time and there is always a dog in it by choice! He also is crated in the car and I make a big point of not allowing him to jump out even when the door is open unless I give a release command.
  9. I use Cowboy Magic. It's a range of horse grooming products available from Horseland or Europa. A little goes a long way and they smell divine :D
  10. So sorry Ptolomy. Lara was such a very special girl. RIP Lara
  11. Training session tonight....put three seek backs out..two decoys. He found the first decoy and rejected it, found the second and rejected it..didn't bother looking any further and retrieved the first one. FAIL. PIM nice. Judges scent...ugly..two subs. Send away...brilliant Positions...lovely. MR....ok I was pushing...they were really hard to see..first go he didn't leave me...second go he got all three. Good luck Sunday Xena!
  12. Geez don't do that! I might never judge again!!!
  13. All that and more! Throwing one leather to the side whilst sending to another...stinky scent when the wind is blowing scent across but send to another...poor little Aussie brain Would that involve a toy dropped as you turn??? BC brain was fried that day the Guru dropped that one on us...brilliant though
  14. What's the weather like down that way? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the trip down.
  15. Chia seeds ( from health shop) are apparently good for this also. I add some to my dogs meals a couple of times a week.
  16. Sounds like a ripper round Kallistar...blasted MR...who thunk up that dumb exercise??? Our mr is so broken I had a lesson with the guru and as I thought...back to the beginning to train it properly! Involves lots of proofing which is messing with his head!!! It's a crappy exercise but we are stuck with it for the next five years Well done on Inka's Open win Xena....bugga about UDX I'm sure it'll all come together one day :D Ptolomy have you experimented with all verbals? I had a play with that idea with Brookie and it's weird but in Open he actually does better with all signals for COP. In UDX I usually do a combination but lately I've been randomly giving a sequence of verbals and I think it does serve to make him think. Dunno what I'll do in a trial though ;)
  17. And I get three dogs when I call Zac!...might be something to do with the treats I have??? :D
  18. If your dogs are hydrobathed make sure they are rinsed thoroughly in clean running water. One of the biggest reasons for being smelly shortly after being bathed is not rinsing very well. I agree a change of diet can also help.
  19. I think I would be inclined to let the kitten grow up a bit.
  20. Arghh! I feel your pain! Brookie does the same thing when a judge touches his elbow. He was show trained from puppyhood and those lessons stuck! It takes a special effort for him to hold position if he has stood crooked and the judge touches his elbow!
  21. I reckon that's impressive too! Well done Tassie and Rory
  22. Woo Hoo! congratulations Ruby Star. Good girl Ruby
