Not a diet I would be comfortable feeding.... If you want to feed raw I would suggest starting out with pre-prepared BARF patties from the vet or pet shop. That way at least you know it is somewhat 'balanced'. The only additive I would use would be a top quality biscuit. I used large dog Advance as I knew my boy would grow large and rapidly so to offset this I only used the puppy for a few months and then gradually switched over to raw. (His breeder had only fed biscuits) A couple of things stand out in this diet that makes me Weetbix....grains and sugar hmmmm. This diet does seem a bit overloaded in grains. I see no offal there either. Almond meal?!!!???? Cayenne pepper???? Slippery Elm is very usefull for digestive upsets for the short term over use can cause lots of problems. Lots of honey in there too....Maluka honey is useful occasionally....not something I would be feeding every day. Chopped dried fruits...ok but make absolutely sure there are no currents or raisins in there. Garlic is a member of the onion family and these days is not recommended for dogs. Cows milk is great for baby cows....

Might be worth dropping them a line and letting them know of this issue. My car is a few years old and I have had no problems with the hatch back.

We were all very bemused by this and it was only later that someone said he was checking for prong collars!!! At the last rules review WA suggested that the only collars allowed in the obedience ring should be flat or martingale collars...you can guess how that went down Needless to say, we were outvoted by the bigger states ;)
-
We've had a couple of eastern states judges come over to judge our Western Classic event who, at the start post, ran their hands around the dog's collar. I had no idea then why and thought it a bit strange... ;) Isn't that quite dishonest? It would never get through at the club I go to. They vet every dog before training starts to make sure your equipment is on right and the dog appears healthy.

Always disconcerting when that happens! Its a good thing to have it happen early on though as you can train for it. When you have multiple dogs trialling, inevitably someone is going to get rushed into the ring...just ask Ptolomy!!! Work on getting your dog out of the car and into the 'ring' (start peg) with no warm up. Do a few steps of great heeling with focus, mark and reward and put him back in the car. Another time you can get him out and practice waiting outside the ring for your turn. Don't do heaps of heelwork to warm up, maybe have him in a down wait with attention and be ready to call him into heel and go in the ring. Little bits of doodling should be enough to warm him up. Good luck for next weekend

This is my 9 1/2 month old 'baby' Kelpie, Zac heeling with a little two food game at the end. He's a unco teenage boy at the moment and we have a looong way to go but I'm liking his position. Thanks Ptolomy for videoing http://www.youtube.com/user/bedazzledx2?feature=mhee

He always gets rewarded with food at the end but nowadays thats for my benefit ;) What happens is the behaviour of racing to the car is rewarding and therefore so is the last exercise (and backchaining) so on and so on. I am deliberately transferring value to secondary re-enforcers. Thats a whole nuther discussion I think. :D edit for spelling

Your Expectations/rules For Pooch On A Walk.

Luv it!!!!!  -
If you intend on trialling you must build some sort of rewarding behaviour chain if you want to get duration and enthusiasm in the trial ring week in and week out. If you don't care about trialling and just want to train and not put the trained behaviours under testing situations then its fine to always reward with food or tug. I'm talking primarily about Obedience here. The tests get harder as you go on and there are only so many 'legal' rewards you can give your dog....getting to do the next bit is a big one. As I said, its powerful if you understand how to use it.
-
But Huski you are the one offering the reinforcer. If you go by the Premak principle you give permission (cue) to do the behaviour. In the ring that could mean permission (cue) to go to heel after the front of the recall...or to fetch the dumbell on command. Its a very valuable tool which is why if my dog stuffs up something he knows well, he doesnt get permission to complete the behaviour chain.

Nice work spoilt lab. RV I want to pinch your puppy....gorgeous!!!!
-
Some puppies are able to process puppy pushups really early and then there are the others....Zac??? So long as you don't put any pressure on the behaviour I reckon you can train it at any time. Love your new sig Mason :D
-
Its only a minor so probably one or two points depending on the judge. Don't forget that the recall is made up of lots of parts so when you think you've been deducted lots for one thing it could be small points for multiple bits. Example.. the heel up, the sit, the actual recall, your hands feet etc, the front and the finish!!! Lots really ;) Work on each bit separately and you'll do fine :D

It was funny because he ignored his usual girlfriends and made a bee line for your girls....he started with Ruby but clearly thought Millie was the one!

Just a comment about the term 'work ethic' which I see used more and more in dog training lists. To me this is a bit anthropomorphic. I think a better term would be tenacity.

is Zorro a Cocker? I'd suggest hand stripping it or using a coat king or clippers on it. x 2 :D you could also use a pair of thinning scissors to tidy up his crown.

Puppy Feeding Advice
bedazzledx2 replied to Everythings Shiny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A lot of Farmers feed their working dogs Bonnie and they seem to do well on it. If you can access cheap raw meaty bones and offal you can feed raw pretty cheap but it can be time consuming organising it all. I mix up my own BARF and freeze in meal size packets...works great for us. Lots of threads on BARF. -
Think about your audience...put your props and specky tricks as close to the audience as you can without putting too much pressure on your dog. Only you know what that distance is. I would look at a shallow triangle I think...
