Depends on the time of year. When I picked up my pup Parvo was rife in my area and most surrounding areas. No way was I taking a partially vaccinated pup to a suburban vet! I travelled to the country vet my breeder used for his vaccinations as they hadn't had any cases up there and I figured whilst it was inconvenient it was a ton safer.

Me three!!!!

Good to hear Bondi is on the mend fingers crossed for her. I took Brookie to Deb's today and poor boy had a 30 minute needling plus some manipulation. He looks a ton better but is fast asleep now. He went to sleep standing up and if I had taken my hand away he would have fallen over!

...add Tasmania to that...did my head in too:laugh:

Sorry I was referring to PIM for UDX. I have no problem with judges starting a heel pattern in any pace...perfectly within the rules but not often done these days. Years ago we used to have a couple of judges who would routinely start in fast pace and one who always sent you into the figure 8 in fast!!! Lots of fast little steps!!! Is this in relation to starting a heel pattern in slow or fast pace, or PIM for UDX? I'm beyond tired and easily confused
-
Nope....hopefully most judges will follow the ANKC rules ;) Certainly its worth training for a proofing exercise but not many UDX judges would not follow the basic instructions laid down in the rule book.

Apparently there were two yesterday....one in the garden near where we were parked and another in the bushes near the new fenced area. Both dugites and one was 4 foot, the other smaller.

Beware everyone! Snakes have been sighted at the top grounds at K9. I reckon the lower grounds will have heaps in the long grass around the edges so be careful!

Woo Hoo Awesome score spoiltlab...congratulations

I think that bloody fairy flew over and crapped on me!!!! Very windy and trillions of leaves everywhere so I didn't hold out much hope for multiple retrieve. We didn't get that far. Found the decoy seekback...realised it wasn't the right one...went and had a look around but ended up bringing me the wrong one! Left the ring. He won UD but he's not working well at the moment and subbed by not sitting in the box. I think he's a bit sore and have made an appointment for acupuncture. Good luck Ptolomy! Kallistar I would mention it to the judge before the signals and hope it all goes well.

Good luck kallistar and Ptolomy. We'll have to share the UDX fairy....I'm trialling tomorrow after a week of NO training!!!

NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) Sorry I haven't time to go into it now but if you google you'll find heaps. -
;) :D

Did you get a definitive answer kallistar? Stupid rule in saying that you cannot have the leathers stitched. I went through alot of crap to find the white leathers that they would accept for trials. Mine even went to several judges meetings to find out what they would accept. And Ptolomy, sorry that you didn't get a pass.

Me :D

I love mount Scoota...always a good barometer  Bumma about your leathers. Its a stooopid exercise anyway Good luck next weekend.

Me too. Elbow problems can be a really hard thing to deal with. Certainly affects any performance aspirations.
-
Agree...would prefer 2:2 rather than 0:4 or simular. 0:0 is ideal of course but low even scores are not terrible. Find out the breed average and talk to the breeders. I would be much more concerned about clear elbow scores.

A couple of suggestions... ask your instructor if you can bring a crate to class. This means that in the down time you can crate him and not have to worry about either keeping his attention the entire time or having him react or interact with other dogs which will not help your cause. Also start teaching the LAT (Look at That) game..there was a recent thread on this in the training section. Hopefully your classes are only half an hour. Most of this will be teaching you how to teach your dog. If they are longer you need to structure your down time. Really hard and not fair to try and keep puppies attention for longer than 5 minutes at a time. Something we are doing in our puppy class at agility training is to allow the puppies to interact on lead for a few minutes and then call them out of play and reward big time (either food or toy) Short play and lots of mini recalls. Boxagirl has some good suggestions. I have the Silver Eagle and the Cool Champions cool coats. Both are good but I much prefer the Cool Champions. BTW I would stop cuing "working". By putting a command (cue) word on a behaviour not yet trained nor understood by your dog you are teaching him to ignore you. Attention should be a given once trained and you won't need it anyway.

I would just love to have the performance I get in training in a trial!!! After yesterdays non event...(like kallistar...he came with me in the stand in the PIM) I had decided on a new training strategy. No training!! It doesnt work any way so the pup's going to get the training for a bit. Gotta save my sanity somehow!!! 17 pages

I've had three dogs who could catch brilliantly and two who cant. Brookie is stupendous! He could catch food for the world series!!!! Jasper, my 12 yr old BC never could catch but he tries hard...food just bounces off his nose and Brook's there to catch it on the rebound Zac (11 months) doesn't have any aptitude for it but I am actively teaching him as its a useful skill for training purposes and its good for mouth eye co-ordination Its easier to start when he is sitting and you virtually drop the food into his mouth from about an inch away. As he gets the hang of it its useful to add a cue word...'catch' so he can mentally prepare. Progress slowly so you can do it on the move...for heeling you can hold you hand with the food high so he has to look up and then drop it in. Another thought...use soft food that doesn't crumble and is easy to see...cheese cut into largish bites.

Hmmm... a glass of wine solves lots of problems!!!! ;)

Clipping A Double Coated Breed

Have you thought about using Proban? Its a tablet that is given every other day dosage depending on weight. I know supplies are limited as they are not making it any more due to shortage of ingredients but if you can get a supply....
