Training my two gsd's to ride their new doggy treadmill! Should be interesting how they approach it.

No to both. I made the absolutely stupid mistake bringing my DA dog to the dog park (even tho. he was never off leash, recall trained and muzzled) to desensitise my dog to other dogs. I used to think that if I did this long enough it would eventually work, I even had the support of the other dog owners at the park using this method. I've now realised I approached this in the wrong way and was actually causing stress on my dog for forcing him into those situations. I learned the hard and long way.

I started off with this XL bed for my gsd puppy and as he grew I introduced the crate. At first I thought it was a good alternative to the crate as it has the sides. As you can see in the photo, I was recommended by our puppy class trainer to close off the entrance of the bed with cardboard to make it more like an enclosure. This was quickly chewed up There really isn't any alternative to a crate..

My puppy used to do the same behaviour! Would drive the household & neighbours nuts each morning. You said that the crying and whinging only starts when your husband goes into the bathroom? I would start by only coming out of the bathroom once the whinging has stopped completely and Cody is calm. Verbally praise and immediately take him outside to do his business, have a drink etc. Once he realises that being quiet actually triggers your attention, you could start making the time you get up and the time you pay attention to him longer. We can do 30 minutes with our dogs without any whining in the morning, gives my partner and I time to head to the bathroom and have a nice cup of coffee. Hope this helps!

Hi K9, Just want to start off by saying deepest thanks for making this information available. I was recommended to this post by our dog behaviourist and have started this a few weeks ago seeing remarkable improvements. I have read through all the threads but still have a few questions I hope you're able to clarify: (Referring to the above quote when introducing the level of distraction such as the other dog) 1. When practicing the TOT with two dogs together (distraction); Do you start with one dog, do the TOT, then do the other dog, then leave for the dogs to finish eating etc? 2. Again while practicing the TOT with two dogs together... (Both have reached the level of concentration without distraction). What if whilst beginning the TOT with the first dog, the second dog is going crazy because of the feeding for the other, do you ignore the second dog wait until the first dog is calm with the other trying to lunge for the others food etc, then wait for eye contact 'yes' then release. Once the first dog is eating, now address the second dog with the TOT. Is this the correct method in addressing two dogs together? Or should they start from scratch (without distraction) if either are showing inappropriate behaviour because of the other dog? Hope this makes sense, sometimes hard to explain!
