Hi Pepi I am so sorry to hear that you and your boy are going through all this. We lost our family GSD at age 10 last year on mothers day, to seizures so I know how scary and stressful it is for everyone involved. We were all devastated, particularly my mum, as she was her mothers day present 10 years earlier, however we made our decision to let Kasey go because we loved her so much. All I can do for you is pray that Pepi pulls through unscathed. You no doubt will be faced with some difficult decisions ahead either way and I know you will make the best decision out of love and respect for your boy. He knows how much you love him. Sending you and healing vibes for Pepi.

This is a really tough call, and I would hate to be in your situation. I completely agree with SkySoaringMagpie. I think he has a hide to ask this of you, and is playing on the fact that your love your dogs and would hate to see her suffer. If he really cares then he will seek a loan or ask his Nana for the money. Perhaps if it comes to it and you feel that she wont get the required surgery otherwise, you could pay some of the cost but please pay it directly to the vet. I do not feel that you owe him anything financially at all. Especially seeing he has not allowed you any contact with her since your split!

http://www.gympietimes.com.au/story/2010/0...psy-heads-home/ Quoted from the article... "Brooke Thomas said her 17-year-old staffy was a serial wanderer but normally never ventured far from their Victory Street home. The family noticed she was missing on Tuesday morning but thought she’d just gone for her normal constitutional to a neighbour’s place nearby." I am glad to hear that the owners have been located. I hope that they now realise how irresponsible and dangerous it is to allow the dog to roam about!

Obedience Instructors Going Too Far!
Kody's_Mum replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
These posts make me really sad. Obedience classes should be fun and rewarding for both you and your dog. Not something which is dreaded. My boy loves going to class. He enjoys working and socialising with the other dogs so much that he gets up very early on Sundays all excited, just waiting to for the time to go to class. I understand that everyone has their own methods and beliefs when it comes to training, however these methods which are described are abusive. If someone ever belted my dog, I doubt he would react kindly, and I know I would have to be restrained! I would be leaving this club and writing a formal letter to the president of the club outlining my reasons and disgust. So sad to think of the damage that these actions can cause for these poor dogs. -
What Happens When Engineers Own Dogs
Kody's_Mum replied to Baby Dragon's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is awesome! I love how the dog runs off in anticipation, tail wagging! -
I hope this poor excuse of a human gets an large and decent punishment for her horrid actions, not just a slap on the wrist and a measly fine! Makes me sick. I hope Spike recovers quickly and well and has the opportunity to go on to a forever home and know what it feels like to be truly loved and appreciated. Poor little tyke.

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/polic...0-1225833229849 Police dogs die after left in car boot From correspondents in London From: NewsCore February 23, 2010 1:32AM A POLICE dog-handler left his two devoted German shepherds to bake to death in the back of his car when he became distracted by paperwork, a British court heard. The Sun reports Constable Mark Johnson, 39, was suffering from depression and obsessive compulsive disorder which led him to forget his dogs on June 30 last year, it was said. He returned to his car to find seven-year-old Jet and Jay-Jay, 18 months, lying dead in the trunk. RSPCA prosecutor Paul Taylor told Nottingham Magistrates' Court that "Jet and Jay-Jay suffered excruciating pain when their handler PC Johnson left them in the boot of his private car". "PC Johnson's usual routine would have been to have transferred them to a police vehicle which had an air cooling unit but he did not transfer them and went about his business," Mr Taylor said.. "He had some paperwork which needed to be done and by the time he realised what had happened, seven hours had passed and he went out and realised the dogs had died. "PC Johnson had always been devoted to animals and his dogs in particular - who would have saved his life or got him out of tricky situations on operations in the past. "I can find no evidence that he harboured any malice towards his dogs or that he would have wished to harm them, but he made an error which nevertheless had fatal consequences for the animals. "His failure in this case is an aberration of his normal high standards. However his actions had catastrophic consequences for the two dogs in the car." The RSPCA alleges Johnson unnecessarily confined his dogs "in an environment that was detrimental to their wellbeing". He denies the charge. The deaths happened on one of the hottest days of the year, when temperatures reached 29.3C. Mr Taylor told the court that because dogs cannot sweat, the two German shepherds would have been panting to try to reduce their body heat. This would have left them severely dehydrated. Eventually they would have suffered severe kidney damage and cerebral haemorrhage. The dogs could have died within 20 minutes. RIP Jay-Jay and Jet.

How Many Dogs Does It Take To Screw In A Light Bulb?
Kody's_Mum replied to 4pups's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love this one. Always makes me smile -
that's exactly what I want - and exactly where I ordered from Thanks for mentioning the book and the book depository I just ordered a copy. Me too! I also ordered this book and a couple of other books I had been meaning to get and the free shipping was an added bonus. Can not wait until they arrive

Man i bet you had steam coming out of your ears! Stupid woman! Sad thing is when people are so judgemental they really do miss out on great things. She could have had a nice cuddle with Abbie.

That is just way too cute! I love how he just bounces around having a blast!

I am not sure if there is a definite answer on this, as far as I am aware the causes of bloat are not clear. My parents feed their puppy Eukanuba and I feed Kody Eagle Pack. We have always soaked the dry food in hot water letting it cool completely before feeding, as we had been told the same by our breeders and didn't want to take the risk. We never feed the dogs straight after exercise, when it is or they are really hot or let them exercise and run about after feeding, as I have heard that this can also contribute to bloat. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge on bloat will be able to provide some advice. OT - Congratulations on your puppy, do you have a photo?

Hi All I am looking at enlisting the services of an in home dog trainer to address a behavioural issue I am currently experiencing with my dog. We do go to obedience class; however I was hoping to be able to target his over-protective issue separately. I will also contact my vet when they open this morning, however I would appreciate any recommendations from those who can recommend a professional based in Canberra. Thank you for your time.

Good on you CW! That is one thing that drives me absolutely nuts! I mean it really isn’t hard to pick up after your dog. I too am a crazy dog lady to most of my friends and family. My friends are constantly amused that I can always find some spare money for a new dog toy or collar! I am sure that my dad thinks I will never give him skin-grandkids either! Luckily though he does love his fur-grandkid, and he is always threatening to keep him!

Oh how awful! Poor babies. I hope they recover quickly. Unfortunately I am sure that this will not be the case, especially emotionally.
