  1. Thank you for all your replies and suggestions. The neighbour said she was concerned about "my dog mostly, as she must be mean ;) , because Allie does this when her dog is at the fence. But she does not want to be a complaining neighbour". –She must have said that three times! Allie does have things to interest her whilst I am working, such as toys, sand pit and kongs. Plus her 2 year old brother is always up for a game and they are walked before I leave for work. Sue&Cindy - thanks for the vinegar suggestion - I will try it and see if that helps. Jaxx'sBuddy- will definitely erect a temp fence if need be long term. JulesP,Sandra777 & Spottychick, I will ask that the neighbour calls her dog away from the fence line as suggested, as to not encourage Allie, and I will also suggest that she look at reassuring her dog that she is safe etc when loud unexpected noises like this occur. SAS, I think she just one of those people. Last complaint was she could hear my evap aircon when it was running during the heat wave last year, however she wasn't complaining, :D just worried about the electricity bill I would receive! (The unit is on the roof like everyone else's, and no louder than is normal). Thanks everyone, I appreciate your time, suggestions and input! I now have some suggestions I can talk to her about.
  2. I have had my parents 6 month old puppy, Allie, staying with me for the last couple of weeks. All seemed to be going well and Kody and I have both enjoyed having her company. This afternoon my neighbour came round to complain that Allie had frightened her puppy by banging on the side fence. Apparently Allie must have run up to the fence and hit the colorbond section which made a loud noise and freighted the neighbour's' puppy who was on the other side. The fence between us has colorbond panels at the two end sections and normal wooden palings in the middle. The fence is secure and there is no possibility of my dogs getting into the neighbour's yard. I also have a colorbond shed which is quite close to the wooden fence line which means the dogs don't have enough room to jump the fence. My dog Kody, apparently just talks to the neighbour's dog through the fence, and has not been a problem. I tell the dog off if they do something undesirable, however as I have not seen Allie react to the puppy / fence line whilst I have been home, I am wondering what techniques I can use to stop Allie reacting to the puppy? Would introducing the pair outside of the fence provide any benefit? I plan to eventually remove the shed and colorbond the whole side section of fencing, however this is something I will need to save up for. I could probably chicken wire off access between the shed and wooden fencing as a temporary measure. Allie will only be here for another week or so, however I have been considering adding another dog to the family, so would appreciate any suggestions on how to dissuade this behaviour.
  3. Thinking of you Bella. Asher was a very handsome boy and I am sure he would want you to smile when thinking about the time you two shared. So sorry he passed so young. RIP Asher.
  4. How awful. I hope Rocky is returned safe and sound ASAP!
  5. I would avoid alternating the dry food personally. When changing diets it is good to do it gradually to avoid stomach upsets. You can always add something to it as a treat occasionally. My boy likes some natural yogurt or sardines. I have also used Pookinuk and found I usually received my delivery the next business day. Great service!
  6. That is just so cute LDR. My boy chooses to sleep in the lounge room, however as soon as he hears the alarm, he races in and gives me a big wet nose to the face. If I don't get up straight away he too stares at my face until I get out of bed for our walk.
  7. Wow that is just way too cute!! :D Riley looks like he had fun too lol!
  8. Hi Nadz I have tried Kody on Artemis, however he does wonderfully on the Eagle Pack - Duck formula (nice shiny coat, good weight & firm stools). Kody is also pretty picky with what he will/wont eat, however he seemed to enjoy both dry foods. My suggestion would be to pick one and try it out. As they are all super premium foods, if you find you boy doesn't do well or enjoy it, you can return it for an exchange or refund. Also consider emailing each of the companies, as most of the time they will be more than happy to send out some samples. (I contacted EP and Lexi was more than happy to provide me with advice and samples. I received the samples within 2-3 days! The email address is [email protected]) I have not tried the tin foods, however like you have wondered if the EP tin food would be ok for a sometimes treat. I will watch this thread to see if anyone else has had experience with the canned formulas.
  9. What a horrible incident! Sending healing vibes to those lovely boys. I truly hope they and your aunty are not traumatized by this event. I hope that the council can track this stupid woman down and that they deal with her and the dog appropriately. Some people just never cease to amaze me with their lack of a brain! Stupid stupid woman!
  10. What a wonderful person, and such a sad and tragic thing to have happened. I feel for her loved ones.
  11. Poor dogs and poor family. Some people are so sick! I hope they catch the sicko who did this and they are dealt with severly!
  12. What a horrible thing to have happened to the poor baby. I too can not understand how the mother did not wake??? Just so so sad. RIP little man.
  13. Hey Becandcharch, I too have been where you are! My GSD destroyed hundreds of dollars worth of beds, until I finally found Kuranda dog beds. They guarantee the beds for 1 year and you can replace the trampoline material if needed. I have had mine for over twelve months, and with all Kody's scratching and digging there is no sign of stress on the material (I purchased the nylon material). The beds are made so that the dog can not get hold of the mat material in order to rip it. Check them out http://www.kennelsolutions.com.au/about/ku...a_dog_beds.html A little expensive if you are simply comparing these to the ordinary trampoline beds, however IMO well worth the outlay as I can see this bed lasting for many, many years. My parents have also purchased one for their GSD pup (appears that she also likes to dig in her bed!) and are also happy with the product. Found the company to be extremely easy to deal with, received the bed in good time too.
  14. What a wonderful dog It is amazing how animals can pick up on things!
  15. Hi Pepi, It may all seem totally helpless at the moment, but please believe us when we say it does get easier day by day. You will be totally surprised when you look back in time and realise just how strong you are. A DOL member posted this thread the other day http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...46&hl=uneik I thought that you might like to have Pepi's paw print done into a pendant that you can wear always? I plan to do this for my boy and only wish I had know about this before our family dog passed last year. Hang in there, believe me Pepi would want you to remember the good times and he knows you did all that you possibly could. xx liv
  16. So sorry to read this sad news Pepi. Your little Angel Eyes put up a very big fight. At least he is now at peace. You must be devastated, but know that in time you will be able to remember all the good times you had together and smile. Take care of yourself and know that little Pepi is watching over you. Rip little man. Play happily at the rainbow bridge.
  17. Hi Azzachazza I was feeding my boy Artemis and he was quite itchy and his coat wasn't nice and shinny. I switched him to Eagle Pack and I have been really happy. No scratching, his coat is fabulous and he has maintained a good weight. I have not had any experience with Advance. With the super premium brands most suppliers will let you exchange the product if the dog wont eat it. So it may be worth giving one of them ago. I have also heard that some suppliers will send out a sample pack if you contact them. When I was researching the different types of dry food available I found a few websites had reviews on the ingredient content. One of the main ones I used to compare the different types was the Dog Food Analysis website. Check out their reviews: Advance: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_re...787&cat=all Eagle Pack: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_re...303&cat=all Some of the reviews were completed a while ago so you need to make sure the ingredients analysis is correct for the brand of food you are considering. There was another couple of sites I visited, however I cant remember the details sorry. Good luck choosing a new brand, and remember to switch over gradually to avoid stomach upsets.
  18. Thanks for posting the link. Very well trained dogs who are obviously having a great time! I only wish Schutzhund classes were available here in the ACT. I would love to look into the possibility of my boy being suitable for such a great sport.
  19. Brook, such a horrible situation to be faced with. I can only imagine how you must be feeling. But you are right the safety of the rest of the family and the foster children is paramount. I thought that I would post a link to the Save a Shepherd website. They mainly do rescues of GSD in the Canberra region, however where possible help out Australia wide. So perhaps they may be able to give you some assistance in finding a suitable home for Ben, if other options don't pan out. http://saveashepherd.webs.com/ I only wish I was capable of taking your boy on. ;) I wish you all the luck in the world, and sincerely hope a suitable home can be found for Ben. Sending you during this difficult time.
  20. He is a very handsome boy! Love the photos you have posted.
  21. Sorry to hear that you are going through the loss of such a special family member StKildaMal. I dread the day I will have to say good bye to my boy, as he too as helped me through some dark and tough times. Pets truly are wonderful in that they supply us with copious amounts of unconditional love and support. It sounds like Keisha's last months were very special for you both, and these will become memories which you will be able to smile at with time. Know that you made the right and most loving decision for Keisha, and that she is now playing pain free at the RIP Keisha
  22. Thanks for posting the info Nic. I was only there yesterday arvo and made a conscious effort not to look at all the camping stuff because I knew if I would be walking out with stuff I shouldn't! Oh well will definitely swing past this arvo and grab a couple of these. What a bargain!
