  1. Panda - how much you paying for your chicken? We buy chicken breast for our kitten - they REGULARLY mark down the chicken breast here - usually on a Monday/Tuesday night, to around $4 for their pre-pack in the chicken fridge which is usually over 1KG! And here I was buying it for regular price from the Deli a couple of metres away! I don't think many people actually walk past that fridge - on the other side of the pet meat fridge if you know where that it? Maybe it might be the same at your Maleny Woolies? Also, I would just like to say my Boxer Rocky LURVES Panda's doggy Liver Treats - MUCH BETTER than Liver Treats from the Store - They are VERY CHEWY!!! Ones in the store are hardy crappy things - dogs have to stop what they're learning to eat it, but these ones can be gulped after a few quick chews! If you ever sell your Treats Panda, I'll be first in line to buy them until I can buy my own de-hydrator - which will probably be NEVER! -WithEverythingIAm
  2. Just wondering if any of you went today, and how it was??? Hope you all and the dogs had fun!!! -WithEverythingIAm
  3. Why oh why is it that ALL BREEDS can do herding in the US and not Oz? Rocky Loves trying to round up cows. Lots of Boxers in the US have HIT titles -WithEverythingIAm
  4. Proban? Also a product called Permoxin - enquire at your vets/pet supplies places. -WithEverythingIAm
  5. We don't have any fleas here Panda - but we're Glass House side of Beerwah LOL. Maybe the fleas are too lazy to cross over the big big mountain hahaha!!! But then again, we give our dogs a size larger of frontline (40-60kg) than their size, plus a capstar after going to dog park etc. -WithEverythingIAm
  6. At our vet we charge/KG. The first injection also includes a consult fee. So for a 30KG dog, it's approimately $50 for first one, then roughly $10 for each subsequent one until the dog dies. We do 4 x weekly, 2 x fortnightly, then whenever needed. I guess it just depends on your own vet. Do you also give Glucosamine, & Fish Oil capsules, as this will also help with pain. -WithEverythingIAm
  7. I personally wouldn't feed my dog cod liver oil at all. Too rich in Vit A as stated. Flaxseed Oil is given at the rate of ) 0.1mL / 1KG of dog. So a 10KG dog would get 1mL each time. hope this helps... -WithEverythingIAm
  8. Yes the produce store - all natural - my dogs shared like 10L with the horse:) I don't use that much molasses for the dogs:) I've heard Sultanas & Grapes are bad for dogs, that's why I put Sustain or Just Right Just Grains. Some people still feed sultanas (which are in sustain) to their dogs with no problems, like myself. Usually Sustain or Just Right Just Grains are on special anyway:) -WithEverythingIAm
  9. This is my version 5kg hamburger mince or Chicken Pet Mince 1 box of Sustain or Just Right-Just Grains 500g Oatmeal #1 cup of Wheat Germ 1 1/4 cup vegetable oil #1 1/4 cup of Un-flavored Molasses 10 raw eggs + eggshells 100g of Un-flavored Gelatine #1 cup of flax seed* 6tsp Powdered Kelp* 3tsp Crushed Garlic* 3tsp Apple Cidar Vinegar* Add all dry foods together - mix. in another Larger bowl (I bought a HUGE Bucket/Basket thing from The Warehouse - $8), mix all wet foods together including crushed up eggshells. Add Dry foods into the wet container (this is where it gets messy), and mix with fingers. Make into balls, and devide into bags. Your dog will tell you when he's full. I've never met a dog that is "finished" his food, and is wondering where the rest is? LOL. Also, you could try "BigDogPetFoods" Weaner food - made especially for Racing Greyhounds who burn up too much energy too quickly. Also good for Mother dogs & weaning puppies:) $2.30/KG in bulk at the Bris Outlet, a bit more expensive at Pet Shops for single 2KG bags. BARF - formula no preservatives. -WithEverythingIAm
  10. My Boxer is on Eukanuba, & BigDogPetFoods "Weaner" (BARF DIET), He LOVES his meat & Bikkies now:) Used to begrudgingly eat Supercoat Active bikkies, but wolfs down his Eukanuba. Fat Lab is now restricted to "Hills Perscription r/d" ONLY!!! She's gonna HATE me for not giving her meat anymore, but hopefully it'll only be for a few months, then we can go back to meaty BARF diet with some w/d thrown in. Will have to feed their night meal seperately now:) -WithEverythingIAm
  11. Hi all thanks for all the tips, The meat that I feed her is BigDogPetFoods "The Edge". I'll soon be switching her over to roo/beef mix, and will be adding my own "goodies" to the mix. That way I'll know exactly what she's getting in her food, and won't have to worry. Seems I should have been feeding her 750g/day. No wonder she looks at me with those eyes asking for more food. Will feed her what I have been with extra big bone thrown in each day. Thanks guys, -WithEverythingIAm
  12. Actually she's spent the last few months with my parents while we've been looking for a house:) That is why I've restricted her diet so much. She was getting 500g of meat a day there, and extra treats and table scraps, and any meat that went out of date etc... She's only been here 2 weeks now, so that's when she started her diet/exercise regime. I was thinking of getting her into Agility, as I was going to take my other dog there anyway. But worried about her joints at such a high weight?!? How much should I be feeding her each day to make sure she looses weight? could I just feed her the 250g of meat with about the same amount of pureed vegies/fruit? She usually eats anything you put in front of her (typical lab). And thanks for all the replies, -WithEverythingIAm
  13. Hi all, I have one fat Lab. She weighs 38KG, and we're trying to get her weight down. Currently she gets 250g of BARF beef mix daily, along with a handful of "Supercoat Light n Mature" bikkies. She also goes for 2 walks daily, and a swim as well. She's a very active dog, loves playing fetch in the backyard, but we just can not get her weight down. 1-2 times/week she has a substitute of her BARF meat with either a few chicken necks, or a small meaty lamb bone to keep her teeth nice n clean. Does anyone have any suggestions? We really want to keep her healthy, but we don't know what else to do. Last time we weighed her in August last year at ann vacc time, she was only 36.5. We took her to the vets yesterday and she's 38! HELP!?! -WithEverythingIAm
  14. At the vets I work Panda - we weren't happy with ours either - so we ended up buying new ones. We figured the price we paid for sharpening with crappy results, it was cheaper to buy new ones when they went dull. If you want I can find out for you who is the best place to have blades sharpened at - we were using a mobile sharpening service before - very dodgy:) -WithEverythingIAm PS - seeya the weekend
  15. You shouldn't be able to buy it in singles- that's illegal, it obviously doesn't come with the warning sheet every time you buy it??? Being a Vet Nurse you should know that. You are allowed to sell it in singles PROVIDING you a: apply it for the customer b: put it in the original box so the customer has all the directions and warnings This is what I've been told by my francisor (mobile hydrobath) LOL - so you apply the "sentinel" (by mouth), then give them the rubbish? haha Do they take it? Info sheets have all the directions & warnings - even more than the box does! No as long as it comes with an info sheet each time, then it is all perfectly legal! Same goes for Revolution, Advantage, Heartgard, Interceptor. You used to be able to buy Frontline in singles, but not anymore. -WithEverythingIAm - edited - crap spelling
  16. I wouldn't use a calcium supplement, too risky, you just need to add more bones with very little meat on them. So a small amount of mince with a lot of chicken wings or turkey necks or the lamb flap bones etc. Or do what I do, which is buy the mince from BigDog Petfoods (delivered) and buy the bones from Canine Country. Do you get charged the $27.50 delivery fee they were going to charge us? We go down there every month or so anyway, so decided to just pick it up from there, and skip the fee:) Do you feed Weaner, Edge, or Roo/Beef Mix? What other ones do they have apart from the Greyhound ones on their website? Do your dogs gobble it up like my lot? Great food anyway. I will have to make a trip to Woodridge next time I'm down Munrubin way. -WithEverythingIAm
  17. BigDog? Or Canine Country are 10 mins away? We were talking about BigDog's e-mails not getting thru. I've e-mailed them before, but doesn't seem to get thru anymore. -WithEverythingIAm
  18. Actually it DOES come with the info sheet you'd find in the box. Yes I am a Vet Nurse, and no it's NOT illegal to sell singularly. Thanks for your concern though, -WithEverythingIAm
  19. Sentinel - you can buy it singularly from the vets if you want, so don't have to outlay a whole 6 month box at a time. LOL. One of my dogs thinks they're lovely lollies, and gobbles them down. The other I have to ram it down his throat - had for a large breed - have you seen the size of those tablets? He's also good at trying to hide them in his huge boxer flews:) But yeah, I love sentinel - figure if I'm going to cover fleas, hearworm, and intestinal worm, may as well dose all with the same product if at all possible -WithEverythingIAm
  20. Yeah Big Dog Pet Foods - my furkids LOVE IT - They look up at me asking "And where's the rest?" One who needs to gain weight has "Weaner" the other who needs to loose weight gets "the edge" + diet bikkies. They don't have any yet. Not on their website anyway, and I tried e-mailing them the other day, and they were returned??? Maybe I should try seeing if it works again. Bex - BigDogPetFoods is in a dodgy building just around the corner from the showgrounds at Lawnton. I totally forget the name of the St? Junction or something? Dunno it's a really dodgy building, and they are on the right side at the end of their group of building, but the food is GREAT! You have to buy it in bulk - 20KG lots, and it is $2.30/KG, and has to be kept frozen as there's no preservatives in it, as will go off if the whole 20KG was put in the fridge. It's in a good spot for us, as it's right near the building we go to show our new kitty next year. The Meat is a Beef/Roo mix I beleive? It's specifically made for Racing Greyhounds, but I don't own Greyhounds. website is at http://www.bigdogpetfoods.com What are the rough prices of Canine Country Pet Foods? I'm going to visit my aunty/uncle in laws next month, and they live at Munrubin - is it close-by there at all? -WithEverythingIAm
  21. Hey Guys, Well I finally found a BARF Diet Supplier (was sick of making it myself) in North Brisbane (Lawnton) to buy my dog food from, but now I'm looking for a Supplier of Raw Meaty Bones. I'm particularly looking for Beef, Pork or Lamb bones with a fair bit of meat on them, Chicken Carcasses/necks, or even Rabbit. Would prefer to buy it cheaper in Bulk. I live on the Sunshine Coast, but as I go to North Bris once a month to buy the dog BARF diet, so anywhere in that area would be fine. Thanks in advance, -WithEverythingIAm
  22. I used to worry about cutting my parents dog's quick - black nails. But then I was told by my boss (Vet), Firstly - nails should be level with pawpads. Secondly - She's never seen any dog ever bleed to death from having their nail quicks cut a tad too short. Handy hints? -WithEverythingIAm
  23. Not all Vets are money-hungry bastards. I work for a LOVELY vet who not only does dogs/cats, but specialised in fish. We get people from all over the country ringing her asking for advice, and she rings them back free of charge to give advice. We also do revisits Free of Charge, and if they have to pay on leaving, it's because they're getting more medication. Having said that, there are a NUMBER of people who think they can just come in at any time without an appointment, and get seen to straight away! Fair enough if it's an emergency, but for something like an ann vacc??? Also ones who come in and ask us vet nurses for a diagnosis of their pets - we can't give it out, as it's illegal, and we wouldn't have a clue anyway We haven't been to uni for over 5 years! Ask these people to make an appointment, and they ask the cost, and walk out when they hear the price ($40). You just can't get anything for free anywhere these days. However, I do feel you've been ripped of for having to pay $75 for a re-visit & medication. Do you have any other vets you could visit? If so, I'd be shopping around looking for another one. I can't beleive people have to pay for "phone consults". Rediculous! -WithEverythingIAm
  24. I also would like to try RC with my Boxer. I e-mailed the Qld rep last night, but as yet haven't heard anything. Will have to wait & see what happens... -WithEverythingIAm
  25. Did you actually squeeze the pus out n weigh it? OMG that is GROSS. It was bad enough just THINKING of the pus inside, let alone actually squeezing it out. Eww. We took out a 5ml syringe and extracted that much, and put it next to the "salami" for size comparisions. That was bad enough. I've never been a fan of pus - it reminds me of infection. Blood, Guts, Spew, Poo, and other bodily excretements don't worry me - just pus LOL -WithEverythingIAm PS - Bring on the pics
