  4. List of doggies pip1981- Dakota snout girl- bert, sally, bruce List of food pip1981- sausages, BBQ necessities snout girl- something vegetarian for bbq
  5. Bruce is the one we have to watch at our place. Never had to worry before this year (this is Bruce's first xmas with us). So far he has left the tree alone but zeroes in on the presents so we have put up bunnings compost cages to keep the bugger out!
  6. Agree totally with this. If a rescue is knocking back all fulltime workers as being unsuitable to adopt from them I would assume it is because they are adopting out dogs prone to separation anxiety and have no idea how to avoid it other than putting dogs in homes where people are usually home. A good rescue should be able to match a well- adjusted dog with people that work full time, and to know what sort of homes would suit their different dogs. Unless it is a breed where demand outstrips supply in which case the dog will go to the family that most impresses the rescue. Good homes may miss out and that is no reflection on them. I can only speak in my case and the entire breed rescue works under the 'fulltime worker = no adoption of ANY dog' rule. I cant imagine every dog in their care has seperation anxiety issues. Plus there is no chance to impress with any application as it is made abundantly clear from the start your application will not be looked at if there isnt someone at home 24/7. Whilst I acknowledge dogs need love and attention, at the end of the day they are dogs and not babies so should not require the same kind of time supervision. And I am a dedicated owner who spends most of my non work time with my dogs.
  7. I find that really weird, and again it's the income vs being home. All well and good if you're home all day to watch the dog sleep (and I'm sure most people would love to do that!), but if you're not working do you have the funds available for the best care of the dog, emergency vet care etc? Full disclosure: I was knocked back several times for rescue pugs on the basis I work full time. I ended up getting mine from breeders and am perfectly happy with them and love them to bits, and am not bitter towards rescues, just really find the "if you work full time you can't be a good pet owner" to be a bizzare mentality! I was knocked back for rescue pugs as well, both as an owner and potential foster carer. I also have 2 from breeders who had no problems with me working full time. I too find it bizarre.
  8. I am in the middle of privately fostering my first foster dog at the moment, and have also approached rescue about adopting so have been on both sides of the fence. One breed rescue has a blanket policy of 'will not adopt to people working full time'. they will not take personal circumstances or individual dog needs into consideration: if you work full time, you're out! I would like to know where all these people are who have at least one person home all day. surely you seriously narrow your aoption pool by not looking at individual cases. just my thoughts.
  9. Hold on to your hat! Black pug puppies are Trouble! I should know, mine just turned 1 :)
  10. That's two strikes for me! Not having much luck am I?

  13. Sunday 25 November 2012 @ 10am Hoping to try for a BBQ again, but that is always dependant of numbers!!! So, people, spread the word, the more the merrier, and it would be great to see some old regulars attending, we used to have huge meets and great fun!! For anyone who does want to come along, there a few things to know: 1. We are going to have fun and let the dogs have fun (this is a big one!) 2. If your dog is not so good with others, it is ok because there are other runs you can use 3. We want ALL the dogs to have fun, so no humping, fighting etc allowed. And as above there are other runs we can use. 4. The more the merrier 5. Not restricted to DOL members 6. $15.00 PER dog (Sorry, but there is no discount for bringing multiple dogs/puppies, its $15 a dog/puppy. Has been this way since we started). 7. BYO drinks 8. We usually each bring something. 9. I am happy for those who do not bring food to pay $5.00 but i need to know how many are not bringing anything so I can make sure we have enough. Contact and Location Kepala Canine Country Club is located next door to Kepala Pet Resort. We are just off the Calder Hwy, directly opposite the Good Year Thunderdome. Refer to map below. Address: 55 Edwards Road, Diggers Rest. Melways map ref: 3, A1 http://www.kepala.com.au/country_club

  20. I live on the opposite side of melbourne to Frankston, so have no idea where things are or how big etc. We are going to be in Frankston this Sunday and I was hoping to find an off lead park to take the dogs to. I have done some research and come up with Peninsula Reserve, Ballam Park and Robinsons Park. I was wondering if anyone who lives in the area or uses the parks could advise me which is the best? By best I mean the biggest, with lots of space to throw a ball for Sally and wlaking tracks that we can do a nice long walk on. Any help appreciated! :)
