Hi all Please excuse the cross posting but I wanted to get the info out there to people who don't venture into the Social events section :) Each month a bunch of us dog lovers meet at a canine country club called Kepala in Diggers Rest, about 25km from Melbourne city. We have exclusive use of a huge grassed run, lagoon pool and bbq area. We all hang out, the dogs exhaust themselves and we have a lovely lunch. AS this is our xmas event we are also hosting a doggie kris kringle! :) If it sounds like fun head on over to the social events page and RSVP to come along http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/252912-december-kepala/ Newbies are more than welcome and you can bring as many people/dogs as you like ($15 per dog) as it is not limited to DOL members. Any questions, feel free to PM me or post them here!

Kepala Christmas! Thought it would be nice to do a doggie secret santa on the day- everyone just brings one doggie present per dog (maximum of $10) and each dog receives a gift :) If you're keen to come along, please add your name, your dog/s' name, and what you'd like to bring, to the list! Or, feel free to ask any questions. For those who haven't come along before, our DOL booking includes exclusive use of the Lagoon Pool, the main grassed run (with shade) and the newly built bbq pergola area in the run from 10am-2pm, and use of the other runs where available. A few of us also tend to hang around later than 2pm (Kepala are fine with that, there are always runs available). We will plan to have a BBQ for lunch, will post a suggestions list of what to bring :) For anyone who does want to come along, there a few things to know: 1. We are going to have fun and let the dogs have fun (this is a big one!) 2. If your dog is not so good with others, it is ok because there are other runs you can use 3. We want ALL the dogs to have fun, so no humping, fighting etc allowed. And as above there are other runs we can use. 4. The more the merrier 5. Not restricted to DOL members 6. $15.00 PER dog (Sorry, but there is no discount for bringing multiple dogs/puppies, its $15 a dog/puppy. Has been this way since we started). 7. BYO drinks 8. We usually each bring something. 9. I am happy for those who do not bring food to pay $5.00 but i need to know how many are not bringing anything so I can make sure we have enough. Contact and Location Kepala Canine Country Club is located next door to Kepala Pet Resort. We are just off the Calder Hwy, directly opposite the Good Year Thunderdome. Refer to map below. Address: 55 Edwards Road, Diggers Rest. Melways map ref: 3, A1 http://www.kepala.com.au/country_club

Hi guys we haven't had much luck organising one for the past few months, and were unsuccessful in securing a booking for November. good news is we are fully booked in for December 8, and then starting in January we will have our regular 2nd sunday of the month back :) Are you guys on facebook? if so, join the DOL Kepala Fun Group. Also, add your names to the December kepala thread if you can make it. :)

I have had several strangers who have stopped to pat my dogs comment on Bert's weight. Really gives me the sh$ts to be honest. people assume you are a bad owner when for us it is the opposite Bert has suffered very badly from allergies to just about everything for 3 years. It took almost 2 years of vet visits, tests, vaccine trials etc to finally get it under control. in that time he was on a heavy dose of cortisone that made him stack on weight and we were unable to walk him very often as he would break out in an allergic reaction. we spent thousands of $$ to sort out his issues. now his allergies are under control we have started to tackle his weight. he has dropped from almost 15kg to just under 12kg and we have another 2kg to go. I am so proud of him, we are very strict with him so it really gets up my nose when strangers comment as they know nothing of his medical history and I feel I need to justify myself when it is really none of their business.

Hey guys kepala said we can do 6 ocrober but it would have to be between 12 and 4 rather than 10 and 2pm. Thoughts?

You're right, Alison. The Tibbie face is less snubbed than a Peke's, doesn't have folds in the muzzle, & the eyes are almond shaped not distinctly round like a Pekes. Top of the head shape is different, too. Most people aren't really familiar with Pekes, either.... which is why it's so easy for them to think a Tibbie is a Peke. It's strange how people get so insistent, they decide what breed your dog is and won't give up. I clip my dog because she gets hot easily, so she doesn't look like a classic Shihtzu with a long coat, so I get "She can't be a Shihtzu she is short haired". I tell them I could stuff cushions for a living with all the hair I clip off her. I don't try to guess a breed, if I don't know I ask, like I did this morning. Here's another one I get "Aren't Shihtzu's black and white". I just say "This one isn't". I've had people tell me my pugs are crossed with something as pugs aren't black  I get that as well 'is the black one a pug too?' Standard response to telling people that no, Sally is not a koolie/aussie shepherd but a border collie- "are you sure?" lol- well yes my papers say that! people often have a go at bert's weight when they have no idea of his medical history (allergies that almost killed him, being on such strong cortisone whilst we sorted out a vacccine that he blew up like a balloon. sometimes a slighty overweight dog does not = bad owner. people shouldnt make assumptions.

The day starts at 10am and ends at 2pm officially, but people always arrive late and leave early depending on their plans so its pretty flexible :)

I am thinking about ringing and inquiring about making a booking for Sunday 6 October. Does this suit everyone?

Fetching Dogs Raffle
Snout Girl replied to ruthless's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
What a shame main prizes are in Sydney Good luck with it! -
we have 3 dogs, 2 pugs and a border collie. they all get on well, and I manage with walks etc but you need to factor in the $$ element. Another dog means another lot of vet bills, vaccinations, worming, flea treatment, obedience fees, food, grooming costs etc. Plus its harder to find accommodation in kennels that will allow you to keep the 3 together, whilst a lot have the facilities for 2 to stay together. saying all this, I wouldn't hand any back :)

Looking For A Pug In Rescue
Snout Girl replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
hardly a rumour when it is stated on their website: "Please do not ask to adopt one of our pugs if you have to leave for work in the morning and are away all day ... these rescues need people and company around them for most of the day. They have been locked in sheds, tied up on farms, left in backyards, caged on verandahs or locked on apartment balconies up until now ... we owe it to them to start their new lives living the way pugs were meant to live .. as companion dogs surrounded by people for most of the day. Thank you for your understanding." not trying to pick a fight, but don't assume people haven't done their research. edited to include entire quote from website.
