I got mine today but its the wrong colour -
To the best of my knowledge, microchipping isn't compulsory in Victoria yet. That said, my Whippet was bred in Victoria and was microchipped before he left his breeder. i know that you cant register a dog in my council without it being microchipped, but am unsure of the laws statewide. after coming on here, i realise that most breeders worth their salt microchip their dogs before they leave their care. this dog also came with main register papers, which we didnt realise the significance of until we did a little research. sorry, didnt mean to hijack the thread

Glad Im not the only one who believed this! I must admit I THOUGHT I was buying from a breeder...it was a lady selling them for a breeder who lives out west. She had 2 puppies left and I didnt get to meet the Mum or Dad. Depends on which council area the pup was bred and sold in. This link will tell you which councils introduced the law last year and which ones will do it this year. Personally I recommend pups be obtained from a registered breeder. If you can't meet mum and dad, you have no idea what health or behavioural traits your pup had inherited. A young adult dog from a rescue that temperament tests is a more known quantity and few baby pups end up in rescue anyway. Thanks! I am in one of the councils that introduced it in 2009!!! Can I contact the "breeder" and ask her to pay for micro-chipping or am I dreaming??? i did buy directly from a registered breeder and it wasnt microchipped i guess you live and learn

one of my puppies wasnt microchipped when we received it i naively took the breeders word for it that they were too little and the needle too big (like yourself, poppydog) i am in victoria, am trying to find out if it is law here

I have been told by some people that not only is bert 'a bit skinny' for a pug, that is also 'a bit tall'. drives me nuts. he actually weighs 11kg, people are shocked when i tell them, even the vet weighed him 3 times. my little man is a lean mean muscle machine. he is very fit and active, keeping up with our border collie. he walks, swims. there is not an ounce of fat on my man. one breeder even commented 'what a fit little guy' so i choose to pay attention to those who know and not those who expect to see a roly poly pug.

not trying to be soppy here, but after just watching my two 'mental heads' having the time of their lives doing zoomies chasing each other around the yard whilst OH tried to fix the trailer makes my heart smile and makes me forget the fact that i need to wipe down my hall walls because sally decided to zoom up them after playing in the wading pool and what were they chasing each other for? a piece of cardboard who could give that silliness up?

I just dont understand people. It really saddens and baffles me how people can treat members of their family with such disregard. we have two normal, naughty, over energetic, loveable pups. there have been some frustrating, almost black times (me standing in the kitchen at 3am screaming 'stop biting my clothes! springs to mind- this was before obedience training). our doorways have been chewed. i have lost 3 sheet sets. our clothes line has been broken. my floors are muddy 5 minutes after i spend 2 hours vacumming and mopping them. we cant afford a holiday as one of the dogs needed surgery. never, for one moment, have i ever contemplated giving either of them up. not for one millisecond. i would be lost without them. i'm not a saint, just an animal lover that honours the commitment one makes when they CHOOSE to take an animal into their family.

on the form to apply for the permit in our council it says 'reason for wanting more than 2 dogs' perhaps it doesnt have to be a good one dont know if being CDC (crazy dog couple) is an acceptable reason lol its a bit crazy, we live on a large (in todays suburban standard) block of around 700m2 we have more than enough room for 3 dogs. apprently it helps your cause if you can show that you take your dogs to obedience etc (which we do).

does anyone have a chris christensen pin brush? they are very $$ but i am told they are excellent and well worth it
-
You can apply for a permit to have more dogs, but you need neighbours permission and have a good reason. its a battle we will face in a year or two!

is anyone aware what the laws re: selling pups and microchipping is in victoria?
-
we got bert from a registered breeder and we were told he wasnt microchipped as they are too small to do at 8 weeks. we took the breeders word for it as we didnt know any better, thought they knew best. we had no problems getting him vacinated, and we had him microchipped at a council microchipping day.

I dont know if this is accurate or not, but a BC breeder I was speaking to said that BC and Bc x have a high dump rate, particulary around 10 months. it horrifes me. sally broke our clothes line this morning and there still is nothing that would make me part from her

hi wildairbc as i stated in my post, it was a genuine question, i was not insinuating anything, it was something I have no experience in and wanted another point of view. i was in no way suggesting breeders dont care for their dogs. nowhere was that written in my post. (edited because i dont know how to type).

dont breeders who rehome 'retired' showdogs get upset that they are losing their family members? arent we always saying dogs should be treated as one of the family, and that puppies should only go to the best of forever homes where they will be treated as such? doesnt this go for older dogs who may have finished their professional career? arent they still family members? its a genuine question- I would be terribly upset to rehome a pet at 5,6 whatever age and wondered if breeders feel the same? it must be upsetting

if thats the case then we have one aggressive lethal border collie on our hands!

Thanks Anne for all your helpful advice and the diagram. I like to understand what is happening to my dogs and you certainly made that a lot clearer Pugga- thanks for all your thoughts and well wishes, I certainly wish you get the best outcome for you and wuggles- maybe a second opinion is in order? well today after my vet app this morning, the specialist was very confused about my vet's findings as they weren't matching up with his examination. he put him straight into exploratory surgery and then rang me to tell me bert's soft pallete was a little bit long and they thought it was best to trim it to save possible complications further down the track. he also said that his larynx was not abnormal at all, and that he had two little nodules (he called them something else but i cant remember what they were called) that had to be removed. he said it wasnt as bad as he expected and he is confident bert will make a full recovery he was going to keep him overnight but he recoved so well from the surgery we were able to pick him up tonight @ 8pm words cannot describe how relieved and happy my OH and I are (and Sally too, tho i think she enjoyed being an only child for a day ) i now have a pug alseep on my feet with a little bandage on his arm from his IV line. and I couldnt be happier. A shout out for all the staff at Advanced Vet Care in Kensington- our surgeon Guy was a lovely, caring, compassionate man who kept us in the loop every step the reception staff were wonderful, cheering me up when i had a little teary after leaving bert even the after hours staff when we went to collect him, so patient and friendly we couldnt be happier with his care Here's hoping this is the start of some good luck for my precious little man!
