  1. The only good photo of Sally....and of course Bert had to have his moment of glory too (he actually climbed on the table trying to get to the cake!)
  2. Then it was time for the cake. Sally really wasnt impressed with the hat and candle
  3. Bert couldnt wait to get stuck into it
  4. The dogs couldnt believe their eyes! what a feast!
  5. Here are some pics from the dinner celebrations! a luscious meal is prepared:
  6. Sally the merle border collie turns one today! ;) Tonight her and Bert are feasting on steak, an omelette with cheese and birthday cake There will be party hats and lots of zoomies after all the sugar! We are throwing a joint birthday party for Bert and Sally towards the end of the month as they are only 6 weeks apart. Happy birthday my fat belly smelly girl! Mummy loves you and hopes you enjoy your special day!
  7. aaawwww what lovely pictures. you certainly have gorgeous dogs
  8. I had to take Sally to the emergency vet the other night as she was coughing badly. she was treated by a young vet, lovely girl, really loved sally as she has grown up with border collies. she was telling me how she has 2 dogs a pitbull and a blue heeler. the pitbull was bought to her to put down and she signed the paperwork to say she had done so and took her home. gorgeous dog (she had the dogs with her at work). i commented that it is not the breed that is the problem, its the idiots who condition the dogs to be vicious and get them involved in fighting rings. she made a strange remark. she said 'oh, you cant change what a dog is bred for. border collies are a herding breed, you cant change that. pitbulls are a fighting breed, you cant change that either. its a shame as they make nice pets otherwise'. i thought it was the environment/upbringing that turned dogs into 'vicious fighters' rather than any inbuilt genetic disposition to be 'a fighter'.
  9. Love Charch McSmarch!! We call our cat Nero" Ratty McCatty" all the time! Don't know why... we call bert 'bert the fert' all the time, or just 'fert' because when he was little he was such a little 'fert'! sally gets called smelly more than her name, we do get odd looks in the street and at the dog beach when i say (or yell) 'Smelly!'
  10. Hi all Its Sally's first birthday tomorrow :D and I would like to make her a cake to celebrate the day. What kind of cake is safe for dogs to eat? (obviously this is a one off treat and not something I give my dogs every day so I am not too worried about the cake being organic or low fat). I particulary want to do something nice for her birthday as my poor Sally has kennel cough at the moment and is feeling a bit miserable Any cake ideas? Am thinking a vanilla cake might be ok but I am unsure Cheers
  11. thank you i got bert's on the internet on a sale and it was only $30. bert can swim but he tires easily with the effort of keeping his head above water. he would never admit to his shortcomings tho (tough little rambo) and keeps trying to swim out to us and then panics as he is tired and cant swim any further so the life jacket gives us piece of mind and means we dont have to constantly fish him out of the water- tho we still dont take our eyes off him.
  12. haha my sally is like that, we have a clam shell pool that doesnt hold much water but she also manages to come inside dripping mud and water all over the place (usually when i have just finished mopping the floors!
  13. I feel a little disloyal posting all these pics of bert and including none of sally so here is a few of her at the beach- as you can see, its a little difficult getting her to stand still for a photo! she loves water and loves chasing a ball- so the beach combined with her ball chucker is her idea of heaven (even tho she looks a bit homeless when she is all wet!)
  14. There was a thread a week or so ago regarding dogs and swimming. I promised someone on there (sorry, cant remember who ) that I would post pictures of Bert in his life jacket at the beach. Bert is such a water baby- he sees any water and is in it like a flash. that includes Sally's water bucket (green box in pic) There is nothing more than Bert loves than the beach- tho he looks a little embarassed in his life jacket like he thinks all the big dogs are snickering at him
  15. My other half was a little unsure when we got bert. he had always had medium sized dogs (our bc was his choice). when we first went and saw bert @ 7 weeks he came out white as a ghost and said to me 'we wont need to take him for a walk, we just need to get one of those mouse wheels for him to exercise on!' now he has a deep admiration and love for our gutsy 'rottweiler wannabe' pug OH getting kisses from bubby Sally OH making sure Bert 'isnt too cold'. OH kicking back with his little man (excuse the full belly!)
  16. anyone willing to record it for those of us without pay tv? its times like this i wish we did have pay tv- i have had to hire seasons 1 and 2 of cesar milan from the library!
  17. Thanks for your reply Molasseslass. There is sometimes growling and snapping which makes us think we should intervene but then Bert will seek her out a few seconds later for round 2- so as you said, it is most likely just doggie interaction and they are fine. when they are not play fighting (or fighting over a toy), which is rare , they are fine with each other. bert adores sally and follows her everywhere. sally in turn is quite protective over bert, runing up putting herself between him and another dog at the beach which surprised us as we thought she viewed him as a pain in the ass!
  18. My Bert and Sally like to play fight. A lot. And very rough. There has never been any punctures or blood. Neither of them squels or runs away, so we assume they must just like it? It gets VERY rough at times and we get concerned but are confused as neither is yelping or walking away? should we intervene or is this normal dog play behaviour? we are very confused at what we should do!
  19. I think your dog and my Sally are soul mates Maverick
  20. Bert- pug- My family dog is a 12 year old pug named Ernie. When I moved out and got my own squashed face man, it seemed only appropriate he should be a Bert Sally- border collie- we named her before we got her, we were just walking along one day and I suggested Sally a nice name for a border collie. Quite a boring story really
  21. I think your dogs must be related to my Sally. That's exactly what she does! ;)
