Pup Returning After 1st Night! Unbelievable.
Snout Girl replied to moosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm with the puppy meltdowns- we did it twice in 2 months! D'oh! I remember standing in the kitchen @ 2am screaming 'stop biting my clothes!' Bert cried every night for a week. OH got me ear plugs. Sometimes I still think 'what have we done?' but I wouldnt change it -
Hi Bub I think your photos are awesome its like having a mini me Sally is a merle border collie, but a lot of people do mistake her for an aussie shepherd :p when my OH and I moved in together we both decided on a breed of puppy we wanted. my family dog is a pug (ernie) so I chose pug and OH wanted a bc. so now we have Bert and Sally (and in a year, another little happy edition hopefully )

He kinda reminds me of Jabba the Hutt... :p He's so cute, I love roly poly puppies. haha now that you mention it I can see a bit of the jabba in him
-
I think they are lovely photos....of both the human and canine variety

I have a classic photo of bert and sally when bert came home....looks like sally is trying to eat bert (actually now that i think of it, maybe she was. she wasnt too impressed when we bought him home! lol) I love the second photo, its like David and Goliath. Plus, look at Bert's puppy tummy he looks like a little buddha!

It's not fenced but Fairbairn Park in Essendon is great. Massive, not near any busy roads, lots of doggies there

Hi everyone and Happy Easter! Just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of any good threads regarding introducing a new puppy to an existing pack (I'm sure it has been done before but I have been unable to locate any). Also, does anyone know of any good books on the topic that I could read? We're not looking at adding another member to the pack for another year-15 months but I want to be organised and prepared again, I think someone asked a few weeks ago, but how soon is too soon to put your name down with a breeder? I have 2 or 3 breeders that I am looking at but dont want to ask them to be put on their waiting list if it is way too soon Thanks for reading BnS ETA: I'm aware of the need for a permit for 3 dogs, have been looking into all that very closely so am aware of what we need to do

We had a lovely day out with a picnic and stroll yesterday at truginia park which is next to Altona. lovely spot, plenty of room for dogs to run around in. clean picnic tables, free bbq facilities. dogs got a bit hot so we drove 5 mins down the road to altona dog beach and let them have a splash great day!

Finally got one of me and my two today on our picnic. like most, I am usuall the one behind the camera! Ps: How I managed to hold 17kg of sally whilst OH stuffed around with the camera is beyond me!

Next Door Neighbours Kids Throwing Knives
Snout Girl replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just an update on next door kids and throwing knives.. Approached the mother first, she asked the kid and said he didnt do it. then says she was mistaken and the first knife doesnt belong to her and he didnt throw that either (despite her admitting it). I said next time we will go to the police. she just continued to deny. i gave up and left the conversation. was a complete waste of time. rang the local police station to alert them of the situation and they have said they will come out if it occurs again. funny enough, the next day mum was in the street when i was walking sally. she stopped me and asked me how many dogs we have. i replied 2. she said that you need a permit to have 2 and do we have one? I said no, you dont need one for 2. she shrugged and i kept walking. so thigns arent too good. am praying there are no further occurences but at least we have options now. -
Finding It Hard To Find The "one"
Snout Girl replied to italmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
dont give up italmum! when we decided to get a pug it took us almost a year to find anyone who would consider giving us a pup. we were turned away so many times i lost count, and it was because my OH and I both work full time. the wait was worth it, now we have bert and his big 'sister' sally. they live the life of luxury and are healthy, well balanced dogs so dont give up! your little one is out there! -
Is Fairbairn Park on lead or off lead? its off lead Oh so cool, I never realised that. Might have to check it out one day. its a massive park with the river running alongside. lots of nice people. we love it. would be great to see you there! just dont go wednesday nights- there is a group that meets (informal) all with the same breed and the dogs have attacked bert and another dog whilst they stood back and did nothing and then told us to 'f#ck off' out of their park. have reported them to council but nothing has changed so we simply dont go on a wednesday night, not worth the risk

That's just so wrong. It's also illegal. It's wrong to call the dog something it isn't. Wrong to the other breed/cross, and wrong to anyone who may take the dog on, be faced with the laws, NOI, tt, ba, etc when they thought they were getting a lab x. Just wrong, and lacking in sense, for a whole lot of reasons. And yes, I do differ, because I can see the looming problems someone else will face. No, it's not nice to see good dogs pts, but there is nothing we can do about it, that's the law, and passing the dog on - if it is a pitbull -only widens the problem. I've saved dogs, but not by doing anything illegal. Causes more problems than it solves. And, for the dog, it's wrong too. Somewhere along the line, someone is going to point the finger, and the dog is in trouble. Sending to rescue wont work, no rescue will rehome. It's illegal. You'll never beat these laws by doing anything illegal. And I'd have to wonder about a pet shop advertising and selling a pitbull in NSW. I suppose it could happen in one of the smaller shops, but I wonder if the owners dreamed the breed? I'm interested Jed- do you believe it is wrong to microchip chip a dog as a breed it is not only if it is being rehomed or it is wrong to microchip a dog as a breed it is not full stop? I ask as I know it not uncommon for pitbull and pitbull xs to be microchipped as amstaffs or amstaff xs I think Jed has made it pretty clear, that you never microchip a dog as another a breed if it's an APBT, don't know why you are asking, because Jed has been stedfast on this. maybe it wasnt clear to me, and that is why i was asking. and i havent read everything jed has ever posted on the subject Maybe you aren't able to comprehend plain english, the post you quoted, Jed clearly says it was wrong, yet you went on & asked the question. I feel you have an ulterior motive. please dont insult me but insinuating I cant comprehend plain english, from reading Jed's post my interpretation was that microchipping causes problems for rescue/rehoming but that is all. I have no ulterior motives, I dont own a mis-microchipped pitbull or pitbull x, nor am I an advocate of breaking the law. it was merely a question as i obviously did not deduce the same conclusions you did from Jed's post. I asked Jed as he/she has always posted sensibly and I respect his/her opinion and was interested on this occasion. No conspiracy theory here mate. Was my English ok?

Glad that worked for you. The only thing is that sometimes it doesn't - not if done suddenly and soon after the pup is already experiencing distress at having been drawn away from its litter and brought to an unfamiliar environment with unfamiliar people. It is best (IMO) done somewhat more gradually, but definitely not by means of (eg) 2 weeks off work, all the time spent playing and looking after pup and then 'poof !!' all of a sudden back to work. Some of the time off work needs to be spent getting pup used to it being ok to be by itself and also getting it used to understanding that (eg) being outside when the people are inside (and/or vise versa) is ok too. 100% right erny. we did it as a gradual thing over a few days- extending the period we left them alone, having someone visit during the day, mixing up the work schedules for a bit. after all, they were only babies. we didnt take 2 weeks off, we did have a few days tho. we made the decision not to have the dogs together all the time as we didnt want them to bond more with each other than with us and it was something recommended to us by a dog trainer. And it seems to have worked.

we've been lucky never having had to deal with seperation anxiety. from the moment we got the the dogs we knew we had to work. there is no choice, bills need to be paid. so we just took the attitude that we have no other options at the moment, no use feeling guilty or making a song and dance about it and our dogs have always been fine (and they are not always together during the day).

Have You Ever Forgotten To Feed Your Dog?
Snout Girl replied to ILK's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a pug. Enough said -
;) Er, No. Lilli haven't you learnt anything by now, if it's brindle and around knee height it's a "staffy" anything bigger than that, in brindle or fawn/cream is a Mastiff ;) Never claimed to be an expert, just throwing a thought in. no need to mock.

I was thinking Mastiff x because of the brindle coat?
