  1. we used it on both our pups (careful to avoid bert's eyes tho) and it was very effective. sally loves water (and putting her face in front of a blasting hose) but hates the water bottle. its weird. i think its because she knows when the water bottle comes out = she is doing something wrong = we are upset at her. maybe i am giving her too much credit
  2. i refer to both my dogs as 'mutts' especially when they trek muddy paws in on my newly mopped floor. i dont care where any dog comes from, to their owner they are diamond of their eye
  3. unfortunately if i do come i wont be bringing extra pugs but might be able to in august still dont know if i can come, OH needs to sort out a trip to the country he may be taking before i can sort myself out. men
  4. What a beautiful 'Lady' :D You are both truly blessed
  5. we will most likely be able to make it this time and i'm working on another 2 pugs... will add my name to list when I am sure
  6. I also dont agree that dogs pull washing off the line cause they are bored. sally has bert, revolving toys, a dirt pit, a pool, a home alone tug, frozen kong, does training and is walked at least once a day. and she is the biggest washing stealer this side of anywhere. her favs were sheets! we solved the problem by looping the clothes several times so she couldnt reach them. nothing we tried with the sheets worked, so now we just dont hang them out. we dry them on a clothes horse. take away the temptation. good luck, i feel your pain. btw, kmart has some really cheap long clothes horses
  7. That's how I feel. They aren't human babies, and if you start as you mean to go on, they cope really well with your absence. We don't turn leaving into a drama, and we're very matter of fact about coming home and the dogs just accept that we come and go and they stay. we're the same and there was no 'just' in my comment as I hate when people say that. they are special family members who are spoilt, cared for and loved. but at the end of the day they are an animal and if circumstances mean they need to be left, they will adjust as long as it is handled correctly with the minimum of fuss. we were warned that border collies were famous for destructive behaviour when left alone. the worst we had is one torn sheet and maybe 2 holes in over a year.
  8. I do have to add tho that my partner and I are homebodies, so anytime outside work is spent with our dogs. we prefer to stay home with them saturday night than go out raging And we have never left them overnight (would get someone to stay here if we had to go somewhere)
  9. well, they do have each other which I'm sure makes a difference. yes, they do now, but they spent the first few months of their lives seperated whilst we wernt here. and they are very well adjusted dogs.
  10. We have always left our 2 for 8 hours, its a reality of life that we have to work. And (i know I am going to get flamed here) they are after all, dogs. they dont need babysitting 24/7. our dogs are loved, cared for, and socialised. its about quality of time, not quantity
  11. Here is the devil's pitchfork.....on our very devilish pug
  12. I was stopped coming home from the dog park the other day by the police. it was intially for a breath test but they then inspected to make sure the dogs were properly restrained (i.e. not wandering around the backseat having a party).
  13. Bert's forehead wrinkles are in the shape of the devil's pitchfork quite appropriate really!
  14. Well your dog would just have to sit on the balcony and suffer then, wouldn't it. That is irrelevant. And you don't know if the dog was suffering, you just assume that. It is OK to report it if you think there's something wrong, but that's it. Driving by and spying on the people is way to far. IMO of course, I realise you don't agree with me. Near where I live there is a lovely old rambling house with a magnificent garden. Every time I walk past (which is frequently) I stop and admire it (from the footpath). with your logic this would constitute stalking?
  15. *looks over at riddicks crinkled brows..* Uhoh... considering Bert's wrinkles on his forehead are in the shape of the devil's pitchfork, I think I will sleep with one eye open tonight in case a frenzied pug decides tonight is the night for bloodshed...
  16. My two are still very young, but my family dog, a pug called Ernie, is almost 13 and still kicking on. He has had cancer for the past 3 years but keeps defying all the odds and still has a good quality of life. he sleeps a lot but still loves his food and walks (albeit slowly and not very far) every day.
  17. What about poodles bred in France? :D If you hold a pug upside down their eyes will pop out. wow I really should stop picking Bert up by his hind legs then!
  18. I think you may have just opened a can of worms with that question...
  19. my OH and I recently did our wills, and included the 'custody' arrangements if (god forbid) something was to happen to both of us and we died. haVe already made arrangements for their care as well as including a hefty sum allocated for their care from our estate. people think we are nuts, but I feel more secure knowing they would be loved and cared for.
  20. My brother and his fiance just adopted 2 adult cats from a 'friend' of theirs. The reason why they were getting rid of the cats was that they didnt like their new pet shop puppy (both cats were also bought as pet shop kittens). the sad part was before they had the kittens they had another dog, which they got rid of cause it didnt like the kittens. makes me wonder how long this dog will last before the next pet shop addition pushes it out
  21. I always read Tango's threads and I am so happy to hear that he is blossoming. Go, Tango, Go
  22. Hi all the recent thread about whether or not dog toys are worth it raised a question of my own. we buy dog toys from the $2 shop but they only last 5 minutes as Sally destroys them! ;) does anyone have any suggestions of fun, TOUGH toys for dogs? we have a kong for her and she loves that but we are looking for something different. c'mon, I cant be the only one out there with a destructo dog! we do buy stuffed toys from the op shops but they last about a minute and a half as well! Any suggestions welcome!
