Dog Friendly Picnic Area/ Walking Track
Snout Girl replied to Cosmolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ruffey Lake Park is really worth the drive - trust me. Lovely long walking track (complete with water taps along the way), gorgeous vegetation, plenty of offlead areas for the dog/s, and a great big lake for them to swim in. There is also a large playground for the kids, plus a stack of newish public barbeques (free to use) if you feel inclined to bring some snags down! I second this- we drive 40 mins to visit this park, its awesome -

I have been called a breed snob more than I care to remember  Also, people tend to look at Bert (who has been unlucky and had health problems, not due to breeding just bad luck) and say 'thats why i dont want a purebred dog, too many health problems

I was at the ONE off lead park we have in our suburb a few weeks back, having a lovely old time throwing the ball for sally and watching bert toddle around. There was a man running laps, but no one else in the park. A family of mum, dad, and 2 kids arrived with blanket, picnic etc. They were up one end of a fairly large park, we were down the other (probably 300-400m apart). Mum walked all the way over to where we were minding our own business, and asked (politely, I must admit) if I would put my dogs on a lead so they could have a picnic Mind you, my dogs still hadnt shown the slightest interest in the family, I am proud to say that the older my 2 get, the more obedient they are I was slightly gobsmacked and opened and closed my mouth like a fish for a few seconds ;) It was hard because she was so polite. I replied that I will make sure my 2 dont bother them, but as it is the only off leash dog park out of 20 or so in the suburb, unless my dogs are misbehaving I would like them to remain off leash. She said her kids are scared of dogs. and this is the closest park to them (not so politely this time). I simply repeated that I would ensure my dogs didnt bother the family and wished her a good day and walked off. She walked off slighly in a huff, they did set up their picnic and my 2 didnt go anywhere near them for the 45 mins or so we remained there So I too have experienced non dog people in dog areas pushing their own demands on us

Sally used to destroy everything on our line (we lost 4 or 5 sets of sheets, I lost 2 or 3 dresses and 3 or 4 pairs of pyjamas ) We then started doubling everything up so nothing was hanging down long on the line. We then raised the line as high as it would go. She could no longer get to the washing = things stopped being destroyed. Then at around a year or so old she lost interest anyway. We can now leave the line at a normal height and she couldnt give a toss :D

Buying A Main Registered Dog
Snout Girl replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of our dogs was placed automatically on main register and we never even asked for it, had no intention for showing/breeding. Sometimes I am quite mystified how these things work -
Bert is not allowed to wear a collar due to an operation on his airways when he was a pup. He has to wear a harness. We use a sporn halter on Sally on the advice of our dog obedience school trainer, after over a year of loose lead walking training going no where. its not always because people are too lazy to train their dog on a collar and lead

Wandering Dog Update 14/12/2010
Snout Girl replied to Bilbo Baggins's topic in General Dog Discussion
OH MY GOD! I saw the white shepherd again About 2 weeks ago I saw a white dog that I thought was the dog running loose in some paddocks that run alongside a creek near me. I tried to approach but it got spooked and ran. I didnt get a good enough look to know if it was the same dog or not so i didnt mention it here but kept an eye out. Well tonight i was walking sally and came across the same dog in someones front yard. i was probably 5 metres away. I am 99% sure it is the same dog. Again I tried to coax it to me, but as we know it is very ppl shy. it took off again towards the paddocks and I lost it. The good news is the dog is still alive ;) and doesnt appear to be in too bad a shape (tho needs a good bath) The bad news is it is still loose ;) Am going to scout out the area with OH tomorrow, see if we can find where the dog is hiding. What a small world hey, how about that. OF all the places he ended up it was round the corner from me! -
Hello all I was distressed to find this post on facebook and wondered if anyone would be able to help this poor dog? "I have a Aussie Bulldog (Harley) 3 yo needing a home. Must go to a loving home with no other dogs. She is fixed and has had all her needles. If we can't find a home she will be put down this week" :D we dont have the facilities here to seperate dogs so we are unable to take her. they claim she doesnt get on with the other dog. if anyone could offer any suggestions, help, please do so. ETA: its funny that moving into a brand new house coincides with her getting rid of her dog....

Even though I take her to offlead parks with my girls, she will be in a fenced area with other dogs. And she is ball obsessed like Charlotte. Life at this house is tough for dogs....

we are considering coming, not sure yet

Hey, that's a bit of a generalisation. My pug is almost in advanced obedience and also has excelled at agility. Not bad for a dog with a 'pea' for a brain
