Vets Encouraging Backyard Breeding...
Snout Girl replied to puddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
one of the vets at the practice I attend lectured me for 10 minutes on why purebred pugs are health nightmares and I should of bought a crossbreed, and that if he took an x-ray of Bert's back I would be horrfied and Bert is probably in constant pain from his genetic abnormalities apparent in all pugs. Needless to say, I havent seen that vet since. -
anyone want to volunteer to be the official $$ gatherer and tick off the dogs names?

a week? your kidding, right? your puppy is a baby and will take time to adjust being in the new surroundings.

Thought we should get an official thread underway for the July Kepala My OH is happy to do the BBQ as long as he has some assistance :D Now, the basics For anyone who does want to come along, there a few things to know: 1. We are going to have fun and let the dogs have fun (this is a big one!) 2. If your dog is not so good with others, it is ok because there are other runs you can use 3. We want ALL the dogs to have fun, so no humping, fighting etc allowed. And as above there are other runs we can use. 4. The more the merrier 5. Not restricted to DOL members 6. $15.00 PER dog (Sorry, but there is no discount for bringing multiple dogs/puppies, its $15 a dog/puppy. Has been this way since we started). This will be collected by??somebody this and doggies ticked off the list throughout the course of the day. 7. BYO drinks 8. We usually each bring something. 9. I am happy for those who do not bring food to pay $5.00 but i need to know how many are not bringing anything so I can make sure we have enough. Contact and Location Kepala Canine Country Club is located next door to Kepala Pet Resort. We are just off the Calder Hwy, directly opposite the Good Year Thunderdome. Refer to map below. Address: 55 Edwards Road, Diggers Rest. Melways map ref: 3, A1 http://www.kepalak9c.../About%20Us.htm

whats the date for it?

A lady I work with was just told by her vet to let her dog have a season before she gets desexed as it 'will settle her down' (this is a small breed dog, 7 months old).
-
I vote for a pug They are hardy little dogs, very people orientated, easy to train (very food motivated) and for the most part, excellent with children.
-
I know a few people down that way, will send them a msg to keep an eye out
-
The only breed I am wary of is SWF The only time I have ever been bitten by was a SWF and now they make me nervous

Yes. Some time ago, I talked to a person who worked the phones & on reception for a large welfare shelter. She said one of the most common requests, was someone wanting to surrender their dog because the wife/partner had become pregnant. When the shelter person asked. 'Has your dog ever behaved in any way that would give you cause for worry?', the answer was invariably, 'No, but we don't want to take any chances!'. There's actually classes run by the Brisbane City Council to help people deal with keeping their pet while being pregnant & having a new baby. AWL Qld also has similar training classes and material. OT- but does anyone know if any similar courses are run in Melbourne? There is no danger we will give our pets away when we decide to have children, but a course may offer some tips and advice to make the transition smoother

Strange Behaviour After Vaccination
Snout Girl replied to Snout Girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for your reply Kirty- Sally is 2 and a half- yes, she is desexed. its so out of character for her. usually her and bert are the best of mates -
Hi all Thursday night Sally received her yearly C5 vaccination. Since then she has been acting very aggresively towards Bert, something I have never seen in 2 years of owning both of them. Friday I was getting dressed with a dog sititng either side- no food or toys around. Sally was curling her lip and showing her teeth at him and then launched at him. It was over quickly and no injuries were found. Since then it has happened 3 more times- once over a bone (tho they have never had food issues before) and the other 2 times over nothing- Sally being the instigator each time. It has really upset me and I am at a loss what to do- I dont know if its just a coincidence that she had the vaccine and then the behaviour started- its the only thing that has been out of the ordinary since Thursday. How should I react to this? I was so worried I didnt want to go to work on Friday She was fine at dog training today with other dogs- and she is her normal sweet, submissive self otherwise. Any thoughts?
