  1. When we bought a new pup she came with the full array of worms....... so for the past 6 months all 4 dogs have been wormed monthly to break the cycle with no ill side effects (well for the worms it was huge side effects ) > next month we will do another faecal sample to see how we are going she had every worm you can think of we live in a hydadid area so wil continue worming every 6 weeks at the moment its costing me a fortune every 4 weeks worming them but better than having worms. The vet diagnosed a severe worm burden in the pup when she started with chronic diahrea at first i thought parvo but that was negative and the faecal test was horrendous. We have to worm them all to ensure they are worm free including the 2 cats.
  2. Interesting i hope your dog is ok spotty chick i think my dog was mildly dehydrated just from not drinking all day. I hope yours is totally better as well they sure do like to shock us...
  3. Hi, I'm am one day interested in getting a jack to show(when my old boy goes to heaven not that i want him too). This will be a big change for me from a short coated large dog to a small semi coated dog. My question is does anyone know the reason that terriers have their coats stripped for the show ring besides the obvious that it looks nice. I guess i wondered if the stripped coats served a particular purpse in their origins. I was once told the poodle were cliiped like they are for the show ring as they were water retrievers and they left fur on in spots to keep koints warm not sure f htere is truth in it but kind of makes sense so just wondered about why a jack or other terriers coats were stripped.
  4. My dogs have a 5 acres house paddock to run in and i still have to take them out for a walk each day or they will sit at the door and sleep all day.... my waslks are all off lead running through paddocks so as long as you are prepared to clean up after your dog and don't expect the grass to remain intact and happy to exercise him EVERY day i think it would be ok.
  5. Hi Well we have had full blood and urine tests for everything under the sun all came back perfectly normal vet commented that she has text book perfect blood and urine so he had no idea what has caused it i'm making sure i feed her twice a day and at shows and trials give her recharge in her water as she really didn't drink much water even though it was in with her at least with the recharge she drank. If it happens againi have to take her straight in for immediate blood tests but so far so good. One of natures weird things i guess. Thanks for the support i really appreciate it i was just a wee stressed.
  6. Thanks i'm seriously wondering about the hypoglycemia after googling it it does look like that, after all it wasn't really hot she was in the shade all day except for her 10 minutes of fame in teh ring the temp would only have been about 25 degrees and then her crate was in teh shade all day and she had water in with her all day then we travelled 20 minutes theere and20 minutes back she was in the air conditioning. Shes fine this morning i gave her breakfast and put soem more recharge on her tea last night as well as this morning so who know not sure if the blood tests will show this or not will wait and see.
  7. Sheis right now running around like crazy outside .... work that out i reckon you are right heat stress far out i didn't think it was that hot she was in shade all day..... and i want to do obedience and agility with this dog it aint looking good.....
  8. Hi I have just had the worst few minutes we just finished tea and i threw some scraps out the door to my dog who got up to eat it then started stumbling back arched andtotally weak in the rear end she was hot to touch especially on her head and ears. I panicked ran for the car keys thinking snake bite we aren't in a tick area so wouldn't be a tick in less than one minute with my husband holding her and calming her she started to stop shaking and regain strength i gave her some recharge in some water she wouldn't have it so i syringed it in her mouth then she started drinking it and then she was fine wanted to go outside trots around as thoguh nothing was wrong. We have been ata show all day she was in the shade with water in her crate she didn't drink much really only wet her lips. I was going to take her to the vets tonight but shes totally fine now but definately going to ring and take her in tommorrw i'm wondering if it was dehydration epilessy diabetes or god nows what else. It was scary for us but she was stressed as well.
  9. Last weeke when at the vets there was a great dane in there who had had anoperation to remove a peach seed that had blocked him/her up be careful with thoses seeds. My vet and i were talking and she said compost heaps were a dogs worst enemy she had seen corn cobs stuck dog died owners took dog in too late.
  10. not sure if this helps but i washed my girl in malsaseb and after two baths it cleared up sounded similar to yours so many things it could be without seeing it
  11. Hi, I have given mine some before with no side effects. You are better than me i just fed them to them they eat gross stuff they find in the paddocks at home so i gave them to them. I'm sure someone might know scientifically if they are ok. One of mine has a sensitive stomach and had no side effects.
  12. Hi, Well we had training on friday night. YAH for the Sheepie she tugged on it like crazy around the other dogs. I was really conscious of my behaviour and yes i was totally unaware that i was feeling self conscious not about making a goose out of myself but i got the toy out and thought if she doesn't tug on this i'll look silly i talked myself around and she was perfect. She ran her beginners agility course so well then we had a great tug game. Thaks for all the suggestions it really helped just running the tug around on the ground and letting her get it rather than kind of shoving it in her face THANKS EVERYONE
  13. Hi All, Ok my sheepie tug arrived today so just had a play and she LOVES it not that keen on the one with the pouch to put food in might need some tastier food but the sheepie shewas going nuts for it. We have training on friday so i'm going to take her on the other side of the oval play over ther and get there before anyone else does to see what reaction i get.

  18. Just ordered a sheepie tug and another one thats a bag that they can tug and you can shove food in. This morning also while walking she found a dead rosella dumb bird looked like it had flown into a tree She picked it up i told her to drop it so she did then on the way back she remembered where it was took off to it picked it up and walked off i didn't say anything then she looked at me as if to say are you going to tell me to drop it then droped it looked at me and walked away if only they could talk...
  19. Spotted Devil a quick question what did you use for motivation when trialling. Thanks
  20. Good to know i'm not alone on this problem wish there was an easy answer.... I was watching a susan garrett DVD on the weekend of to have a dog with such high drive but then i wondered if it was hard to live with a dog like that. My girl is a sook and sleeps on my daughters bed and loves a cuddle maybe thats my answer too spoilt...
  21. Thanks spooted devil i was just looking at the sheepie tugs online. We have not long ago banded the lambs tails at home and she come back from her walk this morning with a lambs tail then rolled all over it.... I think i will go ahead and order one. I think by the time we get to trial she will have owned every dog toy around... Might also try the chicken wing in a sock.
  22. Hi, My dog will tug on almost anything at home in the house paddock inher run but at training she acts like shes never seen one before and totally ignores it. Is this something that i can work around i'm thinking shes intimidated witht he other dogs not that shes acting scared and happy to take a food reward having said that i'm thinking shes still probably not as keen on food when out. We live out of town so its been a hard slog to get her socialised. When we lived in town you had to take the dogs out down the shops , park etc for exercise but now they have 100 acresto run on they don't have to go out for exercise and its 35 min drive each way to the neareest town so i'm thinking i might not have given her enought of this we went to dog shows about once a month and training once a week as well. Is this something i can fix or train her to tug away from home Thanks
  23. Hi, My goal is to get me dalmatian ready to trial in obedience and agility. I have trialled a dally before but have to sadly admit i'm lacking motivation well not so much motivation but where do i start. the local dog club is solely check chains and i'm not going down that path... I have the morgan spector clicker training for obedience book which is helpful. I want one that will teach nice heeling with the clicker and also then retrieving my dal loves to tug but i'm finding it challenging to get her to actually retrieve anything unless i go at the the object with her then its a great game of tug shes not keen on balls or dumbell she loves soft toys and rags that she can tug on. So i want a base line to start i suppose. Thanks
  24. Hi, It has been a hard decision but i couldn't honestly sell puppies knowing they potentially might get allergies. The thing that disappoints me is DOGS NSW. As i thought i would before i did anything i applied for the prefix paid the money it was all approved now i wont be using it as she is my only bitch i asked if the prefix can be put on hold but i have to continually pay the same fee to hold a prefix as someone who is breeding puppies all year round. I explained my reason for not breeding and said i was trying to be responsible they couldn't give a dam so looks like i will forfit my prefix name i'm not paying $70 per year or whatever the fee is for the next 6 years as thats how long till i would be able to have another dog. Grrrr yes i'm slightly enraged.....
