  1. I know what you mean our daughter has been showing the breeders jacks for 5 years and was hanging out for her own pup to show she also wants to do agility and obedience trials but like you its all in doubt i have had many sleepless nights and think about her continually even when i'm at work, driving the car wondering how i could have done things differently thing for us is that i have no idea how she did her i htink just over exerting herself. Just when things were looking so good for us this happens you just want them to get better and after yesterdays set back i feel terrible today. made my daughter get up at 6am in the dark freezing cold and howling wind to to the first walk of the day kind of punishment for her.... I usually do the first one so she doesn't have to freeze but i was too andry and disappointed this morning
  2. I also feel your pain i posted a week ago about our jack russell pup limping. I was told to wait 3 weeks rest her if still lame then xray but i'm rather impatient and if its something bad i needed to know what was going on. So we xrayed and they came back inconclusive vets weren't 100% happy with what they could see so rays were emailed to David Ledbeater(SP???) bone specialist. he went over them with a fine tooth comb and was happy to say that there was nothing there. my vets just wanted to make sure as they were a bit funny looking due to the changes occuring around the growth plates. So she is now on crate rest 24 hours a day 7 days a week she gets walked on lead and we are just now starting to increase her distance. UNtil yesterday my daughter (and the pup is hers) had a friend over they were playing with her i went out of the lounge room for 10 mins if that and come in to find them sitting on the ground having the pup jump over their legs to get her toy. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH i went ballistic. I'm sure my daugheters friend thinks i'm the nazi mother from hell. I had been telling my daughter all week no rough play shes on bed rest but i guess at 11 yrs thats not classed as rough play jsut having fun its not their fault but i was furious and of course last night she was limping just a little where as we had gotten to the point of no more limping. I put a heat pack on her shoulder and rubbed some rapidgel into her (wasn't impressed about that at all)and this morning she wasn't limping again but obviously its going to take some time to heal. So you might have to do as we are doing in a crate on lead walking to go to the toilet only then slowly increasing the walking distance its slow but i'm sure it will pay off int he end. I hurt my ankle and it took almost 12 months to be 100% so i think with muscles time and rest is the only answer
  3. Ok so Xrays are inconclusive and have been sent to an othopedic surgeon via email (joy of the modern world). My 2 vets looked at the xrays and its hard to tell if she has a slight fracture in the scapula or if its just growth plate so am waiting to hear what he has to say. My husband is picking her up this afternoon so hopefully they will have heard back. No idea how she has done this. They said they want the specialist to look as it might be perfectly normal just so hard to tell in a small baby puppy. So still holding out hope for just a strain even if its fracture can't do anythign but rest her hoping she will recover as she was bought for my daughte who just turned 11 shes been waiting for a jack pup for 5 years she trained our old foxie X who is too old now and she was hoping to do agility obedience and dancing so we wait and see i guess just devestating to see her limping even if its only eer so slight. Vets are good and wont give her anti infams as they damage their delicate stomach and other organs and also mask the pain making her want to hoot around (even more than she really wants to now). I'll keep you posted on what the specialist says then we can decided if its a chiro to see next.
  4. Thanks i will call on Monday.
  5. Hi Anyone know a good Chiro in Bathurst area? I haven't used one before. Thanks
  6. Its definately the front. I will get her xrayed then have to find a chiro in our area depending on what is shown. Maybe i'm paranoid and its just muscular just scared
  7. Our 15 week old jack baby is limping can't work out which leg it is vet reckons that it is her right i reckon left . We were told to rest her so shes been crated and walked only on lead to toilet poor little girl is going to go stir crazy. Shes been so good about it not sure how long the good behaviour can last in a puppy. They said rst for 2 weeks then if she is still limping they will xray. 18 yrs ago my dally who was a baby then had a similar thing and it was OCD so even though the vet was pretty sure its muscular i can't sleep thinking we are going to have to go through that again surgery and all so i just rang the vet and said i want to book her in for Xrays the stress is killing me of not knowing. The vet reckons i would have to be very unlucky for it to be OCD but i can't sleep at night till i at least rule out naything boney happening. I'm probably paranoid and i think the vet probably thinks i'm a nutty owner oh well at least i will know good or bad. We are super careful with her and i don't recall a time when she actually hurt herself but can't watch them 24/7 wish i could...
  8. We live out of town with no neighbours but i'm so surprised how limiting some councils are do you think this is the reason for an ever decreasing number of dogs at shows i remember showing 15 years ago and most people would turn up with 6 to 10 dogs (dallies) now its almost unusal for people to have more than 3 never considered this reason for decreasing numbers.
  9. We had a new fence put up when we lived in town the fencer had pig dogs and wanted use my male dally over his pig dogs to add some endurance into them funnily my boy was the laziest dal around needless to say he ended up finding someone elses dally to use.
  10. Just thought i would share. The herbalist told me to was my sensitive skin dally in goats milk shampoo and wow it was fantastic the first time ever i have washed her and she didn't get red skin or welts i just bought a cake of it from the local health food store for $3.00 its a human one it was nice and soft on my hands as well. So if your dog is sensitve might be worth a try i was worried trying something new but it worked great for her
  11. We placed a pole on the ground on the high side of the jump to teach her to jump bigger before turning also we mixed up the training and more often than not as i told her to jump i took off running so she was always wondering is this the time i take off or turn. I have seen other people place an onstacle so dog has to go around it to get to you worked for some but not my girl.
  12. Hi I'm trying to get some drive from my 3 yr old dalmatian. She is ok and probably most people at training say she works well but i want her to push a bit harder for me. I've started looking at the Susan Garrett you tube videos online that i can see i have to say its looking really good however i'm a wee concerned that she tends to have dogs that are already high drive demonstrating how to get higher drive. Has anyone tried her methods and to how much sucess has anyone had with increasing drive in a non working breed dog. I'm looking at buying a couple of her DVDs is there a better one to start at for older dogs which is your favourite one Thanks
  13. Hi I had a bit of a search as my husband owns working kelpies. All ours are chipped but not when we bought them we did it in case something happened and one got lost/stolen this is what i found looks like you need to talk to your council There are exemptions from microchipping including bona fide working dogs in certain areas within NSW, and Greyhounds registered with the Greyhound Racing Authority. You should contact your local council for further information regarding exemptions. From: http://www.wentworth.nsw.gov.au/services/a..._-_Brochure.pdf
  14. Hi The older foxieX that was left on our property when we moved in the previous owners said they will come out and shoot him... Like hell hes a top dog and we decided to keep him he wwas entire and we said if he does naything to our kids or dogs we ould hae him out to sleep well this little man has been trained by my 10 yr old daughter in obedience almost ready to trail (still have stay issues to sort out) and agility. We had him desexed no idea of his age but i reckon definately over 7 the only thing i noticed different to our younger ones being desexed was that it took him a lot longer to get over it and walked around feeling pretty sorry from himself for much longer other than that nothing negative all good stopped peeing on anythign that didn't move and stopped humping everything that did move. Hes excellent on telling when girls are right in season so i think his previous life he was a bit of a casanova local free stud dog
  15. Thanks guys i had read the standard and you confirmed what i thought and the breeder said. I guess i'm a wee nervous as i have had a bad experience with my last dog with breeders lying or not telling the truth on their lines hence my reason fro changing breeds. I don't have any photos yet babies only born on Monday so will be a couple of weeks till i can see them as we have things on the next few weekends and the breeder is happy for visitis at about 2 to 3 weeks of age. Thanks
  16. Hi I'm looking at getting my first jack russell pup to show. Two i'm looking at both don't have any markings on the body the head markings look typical but is it acceptable to have all white bodies. Breeder tells me its ok but i really wanted a second opinion Thanks

  18. My husband and i always wondered how people got there dogs to "hang around" while they are out. Problem is you don't know what they do when you aren't home we always have visits from the neighbours dog when they aren't home its very annoying but i wont complain as i never complain about other peoples dogs in case they complain about mine. But for them is a process of elimination the dog thats not either hit by a car or bitten by a snake is the ones that live to tell the tail. Why risk leaving a dog in an unfenced area fence your front area and leave the"guard dog" in there. Sorry might sound harsh but as a neigbour of people that leave their dog out to me its rude and bad mannered.
  19. We can finally post on this forum!!!! We have been waiting for 4 years to get a jack pup my daughter and i as hubby said no finally hes said yes and the breeder even has a litter due in Feb fingers crossed as we only want a girl as its for my daughter to show and trial. We have a really old Xjack foxie who we rescued and shes trained him to trailling we both spent the morning in Big W pet section checking out all the collars, sqeakies ets. So now its a different kind of waiting game for us
  20. Hi Its with a heavy heart that i write about my old girl passing away in her sleep. I rescued her in July and she was skin and bone screaming in agony to the point that on 3 occasions early on i thought i'd have to put her to sleep but with love, food and exercises a big warm bed she soon got over her sore leg she got way to fat taht we had to reduce her food by half and was hooting around with my other dogs. Only ysterday after noon i was sitting in the house paddock watching the dogs playing and i was thinking how good she was looking and think i would have her for a few more years yet. She ate her tea as normal last night then before i went to bed as usual i checked then all and they were all in their beds she lifted her head in the same usual way and i said good night. Went out in the morning to let them out and she had passed away she was curled up as if still asleep. She was special to me as she was a litter brother to my boy who passed awy in May then i got her in July its hard to believe shes gone. Make sure you always say those extra special things to all loved ones before you leave them you just don't know whats around the corner. Be free my gorgeous girl go play with your brother and say hello to him for us all down here. XXXOOOOO
  21. i don't usually whinge on forums i also posted this in general discussion but last night i attended the wollondilly ABKC (NSW) show. I was appalled by the inconsiderate exhibitors on the grounds. The grounds were roped off obviously so no cars will drive on the fields. At the end of the night yes it was hot and late some exhibitors obviously experienced going by their set up and trailers decided to lift the ropes and drive on the fields they were apparently asked by club members to move the vehicles off the grounds and refused!!! I'm sorry but i find this totally unacceptable shame on you people (no idea of who they are so if theya re even on here) clubs are lucky enough to be able to get grounds and run trials for YOU is it that hard to abide by simple rules. Everyone else was in the same boat we all had to carry our things. I congratulate one exhibitor who was incapacitate and had a mobility scooter she had her dogs in a trolley that was pulled along by her scooter that is dedication. She managed to be able to get all her stuff to her car without driving on the grounds. Please people think before you do things i then heard other exhibitors wanting to do the same thing then commenting that there was a lady telling them to get off the conversation continued with oh well what can they do when you have the car on the grounds just put the stuff in your car and drive off what can they do. True what can they do but why do you need to be inconsiderate to the poor club running the trial for YOUR benefit. Please remember that all committee/ club members are volunteers the clubs are usually hiring or borrowing the grounds and have probably been given rules and conditions of use the least we as exhibitors can do is follwo simple things such as no lifting ropes so as you can drive under them obviously its roped off for a reason. I am not affliated with this club in any shape or form other than as an exhibitor. Please in 2011 lets make showing/trialling and anything we do fun and be considerate to others it sure will go along way
  22. When my girl had a similar thing the vet gave her scourban similar to immodium for people i guess.
  23. So do you feed no vegies or do you feed them on a seperate day?
  24. They have an acre house paddock to run free in and each moring they are taken for a 30 min walk we lie on 80 acres so they run off lead then when we go to work they arein their runs out of harms way then out as soon as we get home they play in the morning while we are eating breakkie ang getting ready for work and also in the night till they get tea at about 9:30pm. The attended obedience on saturday and wed nights and agility on friday nights so i don't think they are under stimulated?? On weekends they are out of their runs all the time but i am wary of snakes this time of the year so if i'm not close by ie out in the paddocks with the horses etc i will often put them back in their runs for their own safety
  25. I have trialled my old dog (now passed away)to UD standard but that was now 9 years ago far out i had to work it out time has certainly flown..... It certainly could go in a run in the day or when evercould be in the run in the day that certainly wouldn't be a problem i would like it inside more than my current LARGE dogs. I want to compete in trials but don't care about winning just want to get back into it wiht like minded people:) How seriously do you want to do obedience and agility. Are you are novice handler? To answer the other questions, most pups should have one hours access to unfiltered sunlight every day. No pup will develop fully confined inside and a JRT - such an active breed - would probably go spare. Could the pup be in a run during the day and inside at night?
