“is It Time To Introduce A Spitz Group In Australia?”.
kinsella replied to Bjelkier's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's because the little buggers breed in those covered crates ringside. It's just like Bullwinkle, "Now watch me pull another dachie out of the crate" Or covered crates are a portal to DachieLand. -
You'd kind of think so after a while. Apropos of nothing, Steve, in your siggie about "rasing the bar" aren't you scared the ratbags will start doing the Limbo? Sorry, in a strange mood today.

Couldn't watch it all. Made my blood run cold, massive potential for disaster. Makes me despair re the human race. They shouldn't be allowed to have a dog, let alone reproduce.
-
I'm afraid I disagree. Fringe activist groups make SOME effort. However misguided it is more understandable than the RSPCA total indolence.

I just watched this again. It's even better the second time. The filming was perfect and the dog was just so expressive. Thanks again.

Superb. Thanks so much for sharing.

One thing I should have mentioned is that we work from home so our dogs are never unsupervised. I would probably seperate them if I had to go out. Sorry, not much help re the original post. I think Gracie is so sweet looking, Burkes. She's a bit long in the leg for an aussie but an absolute treasure just the same.
-
A lot depends on how quickly they get used to being with each other. A playful aussie puppy has no "off" button and can irritate an older dog. They also come with fantastic little teeth that can get them into trouble. My usual rule of thumb is when they can be in the same area without annoying the crap out of each other and treat the other as an everyday part of the furniture. I've never had problems once they settle together, aussies aren't a stupid dog and soon learn how they fit into the family. Usually at the top of the heap. Six months is a reasonable age to expect calm behaviour from your littlie. Good luck and enjoy as they grow up so quickly.

I feel like an in law here,Sandra777. Bull mastiffs are a great dog as are wolfhounds. As a mix, it doesn't always work as well due to conflicting instincts. But every purebred dog has to deal with the situations crosses cause and blame falls on the innocent. I'll go out on a limb here and say that Sandra777 knows full well the blame purebreds get from crosses going off the rails. I also don't believe she was dissing either distinct breed. to the OP: everybody has given you the only piece of advice you need from this forum: get professional help. The quicker the better. No limb SoL - not quite sure where you got the idea that I was anti either breed kinsella. Weren't the words rant and the sad face enough of a clue Dumbarse crosses like this drive me crazy - mastiff types are guardian breeds bred for centuries to be slow to react, utterly reliable and totally dedicated to the protection of their place and people. Sighthound breeds have been bred for centuries to be easily aroused by movement and to chase and bite what they catch - why would anyone with two brain cells cross such breeds? I must really think more before I write - I knew what I meant to say and it's come out ar*e up. By in law, I meant I had the same point of view as yours but coming from the other side of the family (wolfhound) I didn't mean to imply you were anti either breed, just that I understood your frustration. I spent too many years in IW rescue to not understand. Sorry if I didn't make it clearer in my post. efs.

It seems it may be easier with dogs with pack mentality. Wolfhounds are very much a pack animal and I don't think they have the same image of self as my Aussie Terrier has. The terrier knows the planet is revolving to give him a place to stand. Every bit as affectionate as the hounds just very much and individual that doesn't requier a pack to feel complete.

I have had up to 3 intact male Irish Wolfhounds live together in harmony BUT I don't have a bitch here at all so there's one less reason to fight. It is also a breed thing. Every scenario will be different with varying factors eg whether used at stud, ages and individual temperaments.

I've heard through the grapevine that they are dealing with a serious family illness. If I hear anymore I'll post it here.

Canberra And Surrounds Dol Meet (with Furkids)
kinsella replied to kaywoman68's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds good. I'd love to get Humphrey out to mingle a bit. -
My very first wolfhound was either a genius or idiot savant. He could open the microwve with his nose and steal defrosting meat. He could turn touch lights on and off all night. But he couldn't walk through a door without hitting the side. He could also hide half a kilo of bacon in his mouth without a bulge. God, I miss him.

I know a vet nurse that used to use them as well until last Feb when Tigger went through their practice on his way to Canberra Emergency. If anyone is interested I have all the vet notes etc and I'll PM them. Just be cautious boarding your dogs, ask questions like if the kennels are even supervised through the day. You may get a surprise.

I know breed temperament plays a huge part in keeping numbers of dogs, but as this pic shows, Irish Wolfhound males tend to get on quite well. The three in this snap were all entire and enjoyed curling up together.

Damn, I'm a scratching for Yass this weekend. Had huge plans last weekend (photography, babies, dogs etc) and put my back out on Friday. Since then I have been creeping around the house looking for a bell to ring.:swear: Big improvement today, I can actually stand erect but not without nerves screaming down my legs. The joys of being "elderly". I was looking forward to seeing everyone but will curl up and sulk instead. Have a great time, everyone.

How come only Friday? What about the rest of the weekend? Just wanna know. Am stewarding at agility trials (Gundogs and Hounds) on the Saturday. Wasnt' going to enter at all until I saw its a Whippet person judging Hounds on Friday. You have to give them an entry! So I'm going to be the only one there for the whole weekend?

Canberra And Surrounds Meet Up

I'm game. With or without dogs? Without may be easier to caht and have coffee etc. Just let me know when. -
I feel that every person that has suggested euth'ing these puppies has done so with the dogs' welfare foremost in their minds. It is not a first choice any dog lover makes unless the future is assuredly dire to say the least. In this thread, as with the "inspirational" one in General, the future for these dogs is grim. No self sufficiency, unable to even get a drink if they need it without assistance - in fact no autonomy at all. This is not living. It is existing at the whim of someone whose own psyche demands kudos for their caring so much. Bloody Munchausen by proxy. No one likes to lose a dog or puppy. As dog owners, if we haven't already, we will one day. It's a shame that some can't see that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a dog.

I'm sorry, the devil made me do it. To qualify my previously tasteless comment, my heart breaks to see these dogs and gallows humour can be a coping mechanism. I can't imagine what the rest of Popeye's life is like. I worry about pressure areas, I worry about kidney function if he isn't evacuated properly. Even if he is totally unfeeling in the crippled limbs, what sort of unnatural strain is there on his overworked front? If he can't feel then he can't guard himself against the damage his form of movement causes. To maintain him in any sort of safety and health would require 24 hour vigilance to his needs. And a degree in vet science would help as well. If all we saw in the videos was a totally accurate summation of his life, good on him. But I fear there is a fair amount of misery that will never get the same coverage.
