We have had territorial barking at the front door and windows from our 18 month old Shih Tzu girl. She knows the command "sit for a treat" really well and immediately comes and sits in front of me. So when she barks I call her and say "sit for a treat" and she gets her treat and forgets about barking! She never goes back to the door after that. As for other dogs, she's never had issues meeting any other dogs, either before or after desexing.

I'm not even sure how we trained our Shih Tzu to fetch but she is an awesome fetcher She always brings back her wubba (her fav toy) and anything else you throw. I guess she figured out that we would throw it again if she brought it back. Maybe try offering a treat after you throw the ball? Would that motivate your boy to bring it back?

We have an 18 month old female Shih Tzu and the new puppy is a Beagle who is now almost 4 months old, also female. There is no way I can feed them together because the Beagle will immediately leave her bowl and go to eat the Shih Tzu's food. Same thing happens with bones - the Shih Tzu will get protective and snap at the Beagle if she tries to take the bone. However, when I feed the Beagle her midday meal, the Shih Tzu just sits by and watches (she's a very good girl ) but puppy is naughty So we feed separate to avoid fights. Puppy goes in her pen for every meal except the midday one. Even when puppy finishes and comes out, she runs to the older dogs bowl to see if anything is left I would just feed separately until you can trust both dogs to eat nicely near each other. I don't think our Beagle will ever be able to eat near anyone - she's a pig in Beagles clothing! :D

We have a puppy playpen we bought from eBay for less than $70 for our baby Beagle. Its a pop-up made from vinyl and mesh, with a floor and a roof (roof is mesh). It's almost like a round tent. The doors are mesh with zippers. Gypsy loves her pen. She eats all her meals in there so that our Shih Tzu doesn't annoy her! She naps in there alot - just takes herself off and snuggles up in her little bed we put in the play pen. Just look up "puppy play pen" on eBay and you will see them. They come in different colours and sizes. I particularly like them because Gypsy can't get her paws or head caught in it like the metal ones.

I have a very fussy Shih Tzu girl...she would live on chicken necks if she could I have been on the look out for a kibble that both of them like (other one being a baby Beagle girl, 11 weeks). So...I bought Advance Puppy, and they both like that. Even the big girl (shih tzu) has a little bit of kibble under her chopped up chicken necks, for balance as she tends to get constipated without it :D Then I got some samples of Uncle Albers and Great Barko....both of them hated it. Even the beagle walked away :D Yesterday some samples from Eagle Pack arrived. This morning they tried the puppy sample, and even shih tzu ate all of it, and she normally hates eating breakfast! Baby beagle just hoovered it down :D Tonight we went for the small breed sample.....same reaction....both of them gobbled it up! The samples were both the Holistic EP. I will be huntng down a supplier - tried to buy it online last week but they were out of stock where I normally shop. My husband think the vet sells it, so I'll check that out. Oh, and they also both hate Natures Gift kibble now....they did eat some once, but now they hate it :D Fussy dogs!! But throughout these trials their "output" has been normal so no upset tummies :D

No, thats the other strange thing - no papers have shown up yet. How long does it take to get them? The breeder released her early because she had another litter due on the following Monday, so we got her on the Friday - only 2 days shy of 8 weeks. Gypsy met my mother-in-laws 2 dogs today and they all got along so well. Have to say that she has been socialised very well by the breeder. She is super friendly to all dogs and doesn't shy away from anyone. She goes to all the people she has met so far, and just loves the attention. I'm so glad she is a happy little girl with no fears or hang ups

Gypsy is one happy little pup now! She is best friends with our Shih Tzu and they terrorise the cats together Her diarrhea has gone and she's normal!! She loves her food - sardines, chicken necks, raw eggs, pumpkin, and basically anything else I put in the bowl - as long as its not plain dry food She went wild for the sardines and raw egg breakfast I made them this morning! She has learnt to sit for her treats now - its so cute. Whenever we are in the kitchen preparing anything, Gypsy will be sitting behind us waiting for something. Her crate training is going well and she goes straight to sleep at night with very little fussing. Still having accidents with the toilet training but she'll get there. We just love her to bits, she's settled into the family really well and is such a spirited little girl with loads of personality

My 16 month old Shih Tzu is the same with dry food. She just hates it. Her very favourite food is chicken necks. She would eat them at every meal if I let her I have noticed that she gets constipated if she has too many necks so she only has them every 2nd night. She also doesn't like the chicken mince made from frames that I get at the butcher, nor does she like sardines or anything fishy! She is a challenge to feed. I managed to get her to eat steamed pumpkin and some dry food when she was constipated and that fixed the problem. I have found some success with chopping up a chicken neck and mixing it with the mince (which has egg, calcium, omega oils and mixed steamed veggies). She seems to get the taste of the chicken neck and ends up eating the mince too. I've also found that she does tolerate the chicken variety of Nature's Gift dry food, so I can mix some of that with the mince too and if she's hungry enough she will eat it. We have a "back up" supply of the small single serve Nature's Gift wet food - now if I gave her that for every meal she would be one excited pup! She hoovers that stuff down! We call it her "junk food" so she only gets it once every couple of weeks as a treat! She loves her chicken frames too and will munch and crunch them into oblivion!! Good luck with your puppy

Oh the puppy pads!! We have them too, in Gypsy's pen in the lounge room. The only way we stop her from chewing them up is to clip them to the holder. It's like a tray, especially made for the puppy pads. My husband bought it home last year when we got Candy. Not sure where he got it from, but likely a pet shop or discount store. Gypsy has a hard time scratching them up when they are clipped in, so she usually just gives up and goes to chew something else Maybe that would work for you? We are only using them inside because next week we go back to work after a weeks holiday and Gypsy will be inside until we come home for lunch.
