Degenerative Myelopathy And Then Vestibular Disease
mackiemad replied to nelsona's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think he's looking into your eyes to say he loves you and now it's time to let him go. I'm so sorry, you clearly love him dearly -
Nutrigel would be my first port of call to get some calories into him asap I second the chicken soup/broth with some shredded chicken in it, it will hydrate him as well

Pasha (pronounced paa -sha, as in grandpa not pap) is a male nickname but sounds quite feminine? Might be worth looking at some Mongol or tartar names as they are smaller ethnicities also within Russia and the steppe.
-
Dasha is a female nickname. Perhaps that might go with Boris?

Sheridan has had a few scwt, hopefully she'll look in here. If not maybe send her a pm?

Just a heads up, no primary school aged child should be responsible for walking a dog. Its a recipe for disaster IMHO Melbourne show is great to have a look at the breeds but I think many of the handlers will be pretty busy. Maybe ask them for a card/details so you can contact them some time after the show has finished?

My sister just got a havanese (now 6mths) and she's delighted with its easygoing and cuddly nature. I've got to say your situation is my mini schnauzer's idea of hell! He doesn't mind kids but he hates being on the couch, bed etc and likes to take himself off for a private snooze when lots of people are over. He's my dog, also likes my dad but not interested in anyone else really - but I may have reinforced that as a pup because I prefer my dogs that way.

Standards are a really different kettle of fish to the mini schnauzers. I have a mini and have been involved with training a standard and the standards are a much more difficult dog in that you need to be on top of things and they are smart so pick up the bad behaviours as quickly as the good ones. They can be sharp with other dogs (read impatient or not at all acceptable of rude other doggy behaviour). I have a mini and I've got to say I love how adaptable they are. Mine comes to work with me sometimes, he is great off lead or on (having been trained obviously), loves a cafe, easy to take on local holidays at rented houses, totally owned by my cats but has quite high prey drive for rabbits. I find his coat easy, brush through twice a week, clipped every 6 weeks - just make sure you keep the ears super hair free as mine is prone to ear infections if his ears aren't plucked. My boy can't cope with no walk, but is as happy with a 20min wander around the local streets as a 9km power walk. So in my experience the mini schnauzer would be a pretty good fit in many homes. They're bright, intelligent and adaptable. I've met a couple of lagotti and they seem to vary enormously in temperament so if you go with them choosing the right breeder is important

How about a griffon bruxellois? I've not owned one but I've always thought they would make good apartment dogs for someone who was a homebody but also liked to go to cafes etc Edited for autocorrect issue

Apparently yes to all your questions. For how long it is all sourced in Aus I don't know, it has gone up in price. Personally I've fed a combo of meals for mutts and the black hawk lamb. The small bags of the lamb seem to be the same quality to me and max has always favoured it over other foods. He eats his meals for mutts but has always been really enthusiastic about the black hawk and that hasn't stopped.

I flew a kitten recently and the airline was very clear - no paperwork /puppy packs etc to be stuck on the crate or sent with it. Edit: and my sister's new havanese pup was flown and where you pick it up I don't think it's safe enough to take the pup out and toilet - I think wait til you get home and the pup is a bit less overwhelmed as the airport can be a noisy, windy place for a pup

He's freaking adorable!

Yeah, horses are livestock and they will flee a dog and run straight through fencing - which can be the end for them or be the end of their ridden careers. Also I've seen horses kick out and kill dogs easily - in fact I used to own a welsh pony who was only as tall as my shoulder and used to murder chickens and chase and attack dogs. Treat horses as livestock and invest in a run or decent fencing.

Research Survey About Dog Caretakership In Victoria
mackiemad replied to ClarePhD's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've done it. I couldn't access the PIS (though I read it on here) I am surprised that you have one of the top anthrozoologists in the world at your uni and you don't even have her as a secondary supervisor. Her name is Pauleen Bennett and she has done of this sort of study before tbh - which I think informed her switching from breeding Aussies to breeding lagotti. -
All the Airedales I know need clipping more than twice a year. Not as often as my schnauzer (6 weeks) but more often that twice yearly

Oh Anne. I'm so sorry You've done everything you could and have given her every chance. I'm sure you'll give her the best last days she could have, surrounded by those who love her and she loves. Hugs and all my positive thoughts at this horrible news and time xoxo

Benny (De Angelo) 25 Feb 2005 - 17 June 2016
mackiemad replied to Brandiandwe's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Oh no. I'm so sorry. He was such a beautiful character but he was also so lucky to have spent his last few years with you and your pack. No one could have looked after him or loved him better. RIP Benny -
Both pro plan and advance are pretty decent foods and do a decent breeders program. But black hawk would be the most cost effective option I think. Get a variety of the options and see which one works best?

It sounds like fairly run of the mill separation anxiety tbh not that the dog was kept in a cage for years. Great Dane rescue nsw used to have some pretty excellent pdfs on separation anxiety and how to start to address it. A good trainer would be pretty helpful too. Good luck separation anxiety can be hard to get a handle on.

Just email her and ask how they're going, saying how excited you are and what preparations you've made. Most breeders are busy so don't take it to heart :)
-
I don't think the OP meant they would take the puppy after its first vaccination westiemum - I read it as they want to visit the pup as they'll have a few more weeks to wait before they can take it home and were told they can't visit the pup and it's mum/littermates until after the first vaccinations are done. If it is how I read it that is totally normal :)

That pic speaks a thousand words, she looks like she's really getting her mojo back :)

Amazing news jules! So glad the the little fighter continues to live another day :) If amber is a bit groggy etc then I'd leave her in care overnight. If she's home and you're stressed it might make her stress too after all.

Arthritis - Whats Best For An Old Dog?
mackiemad replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A friend of mine has used the PAW osteocare tablets with good effect on her stiff and arthritic aussie. Made by blackmores and she just empties a couple of the tablets into the dog's dinner every night. -
The woolly jumpers I've bought haven't ridden up but my boy is a schnauzer so quite square shaped. Maybe with a different shaped dog it would, if it rides up though I imagine it's more comfy still without the straps?
