Does Your Dog/pup Have A Specific Object
luffy4688 replied to Dust Angel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mine loves to destroy soft toys. He's only contented after every single bit of cotton has been ripped out. -
I practically do what JulesP does. Just that I use Artemis instead of EaglePack.

Just a quick survey for fellow DOLers out there. Generally on a walk, do you make sure your dog walks beside or behind you, or are you happy to let him/her walk in front of you as long as he is not pulling on his/her leash? From my observation from the people walking their dogs around my area, people with smaller dogs tend to let their dogs walk in front of them compared to people with larger dogs. I'm not trying to generalize, just an observation from the dogs around my neighbourhood.

If you learn yourself how to do a basic exam and you know what is normal you can by pass the vet visit as long as if you do pick something up which is out of whack you take em off for a check up. I don't vaccinate anything past its first year booster - which I give them myself. This was the recomendation from my girls breeder, they don't vaccinate past the 12 month booster. Sorry for the hijack, but am i right in assuming that after they get a vaccination at 1 year old, they don't need another vacc for the rest of their life? If so, how many people here does it?

Just moved down from Melbourne to Adelaide a couple of days back and it only took us 5 minutes to teach Bailey how to use a dog door. He nows goes in and out as he pleases. All we needed to do was lift the plastic bit up and encourage him to go through it to give him the idea.

Desperate! Long Term Boarding Or Foster Care
luffy4688 replied to fiery_di's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've boarded Bailey for approximately 5 weeks before while we were overseas. It was a sort of a 'board and train' thing where his trainers will drop by every evening and give him a training session. Besides that, he had his daily exercise time with other dogs at the kennels and had staff play balls/frisbees with him every 2nd day. He came back perfectly fine and was alot more obedient as well. Good luck with looking for a solution. I'm sure you'll be able to work something out. -
I think THIS is the link to the canine genius toys. Looks interesting.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Seems like I've got everything I needed. It's a relief because I'll be without internet access for a bit while we get everything set up and I wanted to get all the contacts and addresses for everything just in case. Would love to meet up on the DOLer meet ups soon after we've settled down. I bet Bailey can't wait to make new friends.

Thanks for taking the time out to post that Rusty Bucket!

Looks like I found somewhere to send Bailey to daycare and where to get raw from. Thanks everyone! Could anyone recommend a good boarding kennel and a good vet(besides the 1s mentioned)? Thank you.

Didn't want to hijack Crazycresties thread, so where I go. Hi, we're moving to Adelaide in about 3-4 weeks time and would like some recommendations on where to buy or dog food, parks etc. We would be staying in the Southern suburbs, Hyde Park to be exact. We have a car so if the place is a bit of a drive it's still ok. 1. Parks nearby to walk our dog. 2. Non animal selling pet supply store to get our kibble/toys etc etc.(preferably somewhere with Artemis) 3. Where to buy fresh raw meat/bones. 4. A boarding kennel as we might need to put him there for a couple of days as we move and shop around for furniture. 5. A doggy daycare as we intend to send him to a doggy daycare 1-2 times a week. 6. A good vet. Thanks.

What are some of the do's and don'ts for a brachy breed like the British Bulldog that you don't get in other dogs? Dont ever say that you are going to own just one Because once you own one then you will want to love another. On my way to work shortly. Will have time this evening to post a few bits and pieces but if anyone else would like to contibute in the meantime..... Haha. Love the brachy breeds! It's pretty expensive so I'm saving up at the moment. It's a long term plan but I thought it's never too early to start finding out more. Looking forward to hear from you.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I guess I was just a little worried about driving with him for such a long distance as I haven't done anything of that sort before. But I feel alot better now. So yeap, we'll most probably be driving with the dog now.

I guess for now I'm leaning towards taking him with us as we'll feel more at ease knowing he's safe and sound. Thanks for all the advices so far. You make a very good point here. I was pondering as well if I were to put him on a plane how would I arrange the logistics. He loves the car. He likes nothing better than to feel the breeze against his face. Never had a problem settling down in a car since I got him. He does toilet on command. So that problem's solved! Would definitely wear him out with a good long walk before we travel.

Hi, I'll be moving from Melbourne to Adelaide with my partner in early July. We're planning to drive down and it'll be about a 9 hours drive. My question is, would it be best to fly our puppy, Bailey(which will be about 1 in July) over in a crate then pick him up when we arrive, or would it be ok if we put him in the crate at the back of the car. If you guys think flying him over is better, could you guys also suggest which pet transport company would be better? If you guys think he will be fine being in a crate for so long with the occasional walk and break in between to let him pee and stretch his legs, can you guys give me advices or ideas how to make the trip less boring and easier on him? Thanks in advance.

Been Having The Runs Since Yesterday.
luffy4688 replied to luffy4688's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have not changed his diet recently. Has been he's normal energetic self, but he's been farting alot. And it stinks! He has free access to water but he usually doesn't drink alot. He normally has a big drink after his walks and just a couple of licks every few hours. Yeah, that's what I plan to do. I'm skipping his breakfast and going to start him on the boiled chicken and rice this evening. Thanks for the advices so far. Don't we ALL know what that's like Do you think he might have gotten hold of something "nasty" while out on a walk or at the park? Niki's father, Lennon, got hold of a very, very dead rabbit once & ate it - he had the runs for a few days after that - my ex & I afterwards compared any gruesomely horrible smell to "the maggoty rabbit farts" There's a possibilty that might be the case as he loves picking things off the ground. I always hate it when people just throw leftovers in the grass. He ate a dead bird about a month back before I could stop him. It as dark then and I didn't notice till it was too late. But even then he didn't get an upset tummy. -

Bailey's been having the runs yesterday. He actually whined to be let out to poop in the middle of the night last night which he never does, and of course the poo was runny. This morning, he did another poop that was runny but this time there was blood in it. Behaviour wise he's still active and full of spunk. And that's why I have not sent him to a vet yet. He hasn't had anything out of the ordinary in his meals or treats recently, just the usual. I tried calling the vet for advice but the number's busy at the moment. I'll call back in about 15 minutes but I thought I'll ask for some advice here in the meantime. Thanks in advance.
