Bailey can never focus long on his kong. He'll be at it for a few minutes before he's off exploring something else. It does keep him occupied when he's in the crate and has nothing else to do though. Besides that, like the others have said, all dogs have different taste. Bailey doesn't like peanut butter. I placed some on my finger and put it in front of his nose an he wouldn't even give it a lick. What really gets him going is an empty plastic/soft drink bottle with the cap, plastic papers removed, then filled with some treats. It keeps him going for ages, he then falls asleep and gets up and start going at it again. Try to use harder plastic bottles as Bailey has just learnt with the softer 1s he can slowly chew through them to get to the treats.

Hi, thanks for all the responses and advices. We have already decided that mouthing on humans will not be allowed and will be working on correcting him. Will keep you guys updated on how it goes.

Just wanna update on Bailey's condition. Since last Monday I've been feeding him just boiled rice and lean chicken breast and by Wed or Thurs he's poo was back to normal. I started reintroducing a bit of Eagle pack puppy kibble into his diet again yesterday and today he's started having runny poo again. I'm gonna go back to just boiled rice and chicken again. In the meantime, I would like to seek couple of advice: 1: Did I started reintroducing kibble again too quickly? 2. Could it be the Eagle pack puppy kibble and should I try a different brand? Any help will be most welcomed. Thank you.

Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming! He seems fine when he's calm. Just that he has a tendancy to nip quite hard on our heels when he's running about, excited. He's a herding breed, so could this be his herding insticts? Or is that too young for a 9 week old pup? I've been trying the 'ouch', then ignore for 15-30 seconds before continuing like normal. He tends to jump on me playfully when I ignore him and sometimes continue biting. Any ideas how to counter that? He's going to puppy school next Saturday. The trainer has been over to teach us some basics which has been working great. Biting inhibition seems to be the only thing that's taking longer. I know it can take quite a while to get the idea to him, just want to know if I'm on the right track.

Hi! I currently have a 9 week old puppy Bailey. I would like to understand more about bite inhibition. He tends to bite quite a bit when he's playing or excited. My question is. Do I correct him only when the bite stings or there is a slightest bit of pain or do i correct him whenever he bites, no matter it hurts or not? Am I suppose to be training him to bite softly or not to bite at all? Thank you all in advance. Regards, Ryan.

Been feeding him boiled rice and chicken for the past 2 days n his poo is more solid today. Plan to keep up the same diet for the rest of the week at least before slowly introducing kibble etc. In the meantime, I was wondering if I could start give him some treats again for training purposes and if so, what healthier treats would u suggest? Thank you all

Bailey had diarrhoea 3 times throughout the night last night. Each time in his crate. Brought him to vet 1st thing in the morning and the vet said he seems fine and suggested lean chicken with rice. Gave it to him for lunch. He pooped a while ago but it's still runny. Not much improvement. Should I be worried? Each time last night when he pooped in his crate he would be barking and whining and I had to let him out to clean up the crate. What I'm worried at the moment is he'll think that barking and whining will get him out of the crate when I've just started seeing results with calm in crate=good. Any suggestions here? He doesn't pee in his crate because as soon as I bring him to his spot after I take him out he pees, and quite a bit. So I'll be assuming he's holding it in while in the crate. On top of that, since I got him bout 10 days ago, he has only soiled his crate once before last night.

My 8 week old corgi Bailey has been having diarhhoea once a day for the past 3 days. It's watery, stinks and it contain the kibbles and liver treats that he ate, all still solid. He has been feed the same diet since I got him a little more than a week ago and he has not had diarrhoea until 3 days ago. He's being fed beef mince, chicken necks and kibble but seperately depending on which meal. He's still behaving normally. Active, running around, jumping and all. I hope you guys could provide me some input on this. Should I bring him to a vet? Could it be his diet etc.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a reason that we feed raw in the morning and dry as a seperate meal later? Could it be done the other way round? Not trying to question your advice, just want to find out why. It's my 1st puppy, so I'm keen to learn more.

Just realised harlosmummy has already suggested the same thing. Haha.

Hi, I've only got my 1st puppy a week ago so I'm no expert. I live in an apartment as well, and have been teaching Bailey to toilet out in the balcony. What we did was made something similar like the pet loo that's being sold in pet stores, but we made it ourselves from materials from Bunnings instead. They do sell artificial grass and all. Might be a worthy investment if you're into DIY. It's been working wonderful at the moment. Have got him for 7 days and it's been 2 full days without mistakes. Still gonna keep a close watch over him for a long long time though. Haha.

Hi, I'm currently feeding my 8 week old corgi, Bailey this: Brekky and dinner: Human grade beef mince and Eagle puppy kibble. Lunch: Chicken necks. This was the diet given by the breeder and I've been using it since I got him a week ago, although I've changed the kibble from Eagle to Proplan. He seems to be doing fine with the current diet, was just wondering on how I could improve and mix it up a little. Are they other bones that are safe for a puppy besides chicken necks? For example chicken wings? Any advices or opinions will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Referring to what Powerlegs said, if he have not learned to clean himself from his mum, now that he's already seperated from his mum, is he still going to learn?

Thanks for all the advices. Just gave him a wipe with some salty warm water. Will look for the Coloidal Silver tomorrow. It's my 1st pup so i'm freaking out at every little thing. Haha. :p

Thanks for the responses. I feel much better knowing it shouldn't be serious. I'll definitely keep in mind to bring it up to the vet when he goes in for his 2nd vaccination.

Nope, he is not desexed yet. Planning to, but not yet.

My puppy Bailey has pus coming out from his genital. He's 8 weeks old. On both occasions it happened after he urintated. He accidentally swallowed a cigarette butt yesterday evening and was taken to the vet. Pus was greenish yellow .The vet managed to get him to vomit it out and he was given some charcoal to neutralised the toxins from the cigarette. Could the pus be linked to that? Or could it be a urinary tract infection? Should I bring him to a vet? If so, could it wait till tomorrow? He still seems to be behaving like normal. Thank you all in advance.

Thanks for the great referral Scouty! Looks good. I think I might go for Command. But before I enrol, I realise there are both indoor and outdoor classes. Is there any difference between having the school indoors and outdoors? Thanks Mel and Shel for the fantastic posts as well. ABC Dog Training Anyone heard or been this?

I'm sorry. I meant to say change it gradually. Breeder did recommend a vet or 2 but since it's a bit of a travel from my area, I'm looking at other options. Alright, I'm off to smell his paws. Lol.

Traditional Vs Clicker Method.

Thanks for all the advices so far. Finally got Bailey 3 days ago and he's been a handful. In terms of housebreaking, mistakes are reducing by the day. Only 1 mistake today so far He'll be attending puppy pre school next weekend. at about 9 weeks plus. Should I start clicker charging him now or should I wait for a trainer to properly demonstrate it to me during puppy class? -
Yes. I live in an apartment. I have plans to move to a house with a yard early next year, but it's not finalised yet. Me, my partner and sister have divided our weekly time so that he will get an everyday walk once he is given the all clear. Thanks for all the great suggestions. Would definitely give him car rides. Planning to introduce him to the vacuum cleaner tomorrow.

Sorry but your vet dosent know what hes talking about a lot of vets know stuff all about feeding dogs The diet the breeder recomended is a good diet. I dont know why hes got an odour but the diet sounds perfect Totally agree & you should have consulted with your breeder about changing & whether what you have changedto is suitable for your breed. Did you buy what the vet recommended or sold?? Are you sure its an odour.have you owned dogs before??Some breeds do have more of a smell & no amount of washing will change it its just something that goes with that breed. Did the vet say he smelt?? Does everyone else say he smells bearing in mind its winter & even the most cleanist dogs can smell dirty with wet feet & moist underbellies After reading, I think I might try a different vet in the future. Thank you so much. Keep the responses coming. Sett, breeder said it was up to me but to change it regularly. I might change it back to the breeders diet if it's in the puppy's best interest. The vet did not said he smelt. It's the 1st time I owned my own dog I've played with friends and family member's pet dogs quite often. What you said about the wet feet with it being winter makes perfect sense though. The vet suggested Hill Science kibble, but I had already bought Eagle. Do you reckon I should consult another vet?

Hi, I got an 8 week old corgi 3 days agoi. He's got a distinct doggy odour! I bathed it but the smell does not go away. Could it be down to his diet? The breeder was feeding it Breakfast: beef mince. Lunch: Chicken wings and neck. Dinner: Beef mince+Proplan puppy kibble. I brought him to the vet at Lort Smith on the day I got him for a checkup and was advice to slowly change his diet to just kibble as raw was not healthy and wings and necks might be too hard on his teeth. So now he's on Breakfast: puppy mince+Eagle puppy kibble Lunch: Eagle puppy kibble Dinner: puppy mince+kibble I'm slowly reducing the amount of mince based on what the vet told me. I'm a bit confused as from what I read on this forum, raw should be a good source of food? Any advice or suggestions on what might be causing the odour would be welcome.

Just saw your reply to my question in the 'when to start puppy school' forum. Are they any classes that start earlier? Say clayton south?
