  1. Not every product/diet will suit every dog unfortunately it may take some time to find something that suits your boy. I'd also reccomend an addition to egg or a can of sardines to his current diet. edit: to = of
  2. Amazing Kelle, they both look wonderful !!, You've done a wonderful job with them
  3. Also I'd suggest reward training for being tolerant of this exercise, rewarding for being still when holding paw, increasing the length of time between command and reward then step up to being still while tool (dremel on or nail clipper touching nail) reward and then onto actually trimming the nail and reward. I had to do this with my wei whom seemed to be born with a phobia for nail trimming. Also remember to do a little at a time at quite often over an extended period of time the quick has moved down the nail so trim little and often. goodluck !
  4. Lillysmum means theoretical (diet modelled to emulate what would be consumed in natural state), not actual practical implementation. Though I've no idea why the kibble ?
  5. It sounds as if new puppy is being a bit over zealous outside, it's normal for the older dog to discipline the puppy. Is she leaving any marks on the pup or is it all noise on the puppy's behalf ? Perhaps keep them seperated whilst outside esp. when playing, at least until the puppy is older and has learnt some basic obedience.
  6. Would love to know where to get well priced quality game, tho you guys are in different states
  7. I think that girl might have a similar reaction to duck but I'm sure the others would love it !
  8. With the giant breeds slow steady rate of growth is required for sound development. We feed our St's on the BARF diet. Dr Ian Billinghursts, Give your dog a bone is good reading.
  9. I would not use the yearly injection. I use a monthly tablet.
  10. Here's my before an after - I feed 50 % Dr B's BARF pattie to 50% rmbs - I'm too chicken to formulate it myself as I fear leaving anything out. My Wei had a few issues on a kibble based diet, the two main ones were itchy skin and overweight - I could hardly feed her anything on the kibble yet she'd till be overweight (exercise was not an issue, and I brought high quality kibble formulated for dogs with weight issues) I switched her over to BARF and she's 200% better no more itchy skin and no more overweight issues - she even eats more on the BARF diet (volume wise) which makes a far more content doggy ! First showing off that BARF smile, second after body shot and third the before shot. All ours are fed BARF or a slightly skewed BARF diet and they've never looked better - incl. St Bernards, Papillon and Vizsla.
  11. Interesting O'ren I thought the Billinghurst Barf patties were free of these preservetives - anyone correct me if I'm wrong
  12. There are commercially available BARF patties for those whom don't have the time to prepare the barf diet themselves or can't handle working it out correctly
  13. I agree with Sidoney, experiment with different types to find what your puppies are most interested in. We dry our own liver - the dogs just love it, yet don't like 'brought' nearly as much.
  14. Yes, you are correct, RC, Euk and Eagle pack are all super premium dog foods
  15. oohh gorgeous Silvaro, simply gorgeous !!!
  16. I love admiring a poodle in a full show clip, just stunning - although I couldn't imagine being talented enough to keep one in it myself. Any reason why you don't breed the silvers anymore Silvaro ?. I just love the Silver and the reds (the real deep red ones)
  17. I've only once given my dogs 'My Dog' since being on the BARF diet, we were travelling up to our beach house and we got there in the evening but the BARF I brought with me was still frozen solid so I had no choice but to give them the 'My Dog' (we keep it in the beach house for emergencies) anyway boy did I regret that in the morning ! It reminded me of one of the many reasons I switched to BARF - The mountains of poo and oh god the smell !! I now travel with the travel fridge set slightly lower so that it's only semi frozen (still edible), so if I'm ever caught in that situation again I don't have to rely on that horrid commercial stuff
  18. I, like you Ravensmyst00, am likely with my current vet. He doesn't push any dog food brands or other products and is fully supportive of our BARF diet.
  19. If your really interested in learning more about raw/barf diets I would suggest googling the subject as well as Billinghurst and Lonsdale, there are also many books on the subject.
  20. I'd say get a new vet - although the first 12mths are critical stages for development, she should care what you feed your for it's entire life unless she wants to see you more often To be honest feeding entirely canned food is not doing your new pup any good for its development, 75% of a can of dog food is water/moisture leaving only 1/4 of the can of actual nutrients. I feed the BARF diet and highly reccomend it but as Puggles said unless you get it right you could be depriving your pup of specific nutritional requirements needed for his/her development. If you want to feed the BARF diet but feel that you would be unable to make a balanced diet up yourself there are commercially available BARF patties (Dr Ian Billinghurst's) that have a feeding guide printed on the side, they can be fed alone or 50% pattie to 50% raw meaty bones (like the necks your using). If not still ditch the canned food and get a premium dry food and you can still supplement this with the raw meaty bones, sardines, yoghurt etc.
