GABLEHAUS replied to DogSvet's topic in General Dog Discussion
Difficulties in transportation are just one of the problems to be considered in selling puppies. We have never had problems with shipping even in importing but I know of some truly terrible outcomes. My largest concern about selling at a distance is the inability to inspect the home and to meet the prospective owner/s. The statistics of puppies living their whole lives with one family are not good. If things go wrong at a distance who is there to help the dog? As breeders we are responsible for these little lives for all their time on earth. We need to be very careful. JMHO Gablehaus -

Have any of you come up with a less expensive way to protect our kids? What are your feelings about the tick collars? Does anyone divide large dog doses of the spot ons between two or more dogs? Anyone of the South side of Brisbane who wants to know where NOT to go to a vet please contact me. GABLEHAUS

We have been showing and breeding Shar Pei for over 20 years. In that time we have seen changes in the breed for the better with dedicated breeders and deplorable results from others. As usual the need for sensationalism and emotional responses has ensured the press has not let the truth get in the way of a good story. Our statistics clearly show the incidence of entropian surgery is NOT 80%. Please remember the rules for show dogs prohibit exhibition of dogs who have had "cosmetic" surgery. It has been a long time in our part of the country since I have heard of anyone getting that price for a pet puppy and I have never paid anything near their quoted cost of entropian surgery. At that I have combined desexing with entropian and still come in far under $2000. I do wonder if some of the dumping comes about when a puppy has cost less than the cost of surgery. There is much more I would be happy to discuss but will end with a plea to drop the emotionalism and the idea that regulations will cure all problems. In most cases this results in affecting those who are trying to improve the breed and the exploiters continue their own way. Jenny Crisp Gablehaus Shar Pei

Have you checked the puppy for a cleft palate?

Ultrasound At 23 Days - Pregnancy Not Confirmed
GABLEHAUS replied to Delviktar's topic in Breeders Community
There is a blood test that can show if a bitch is pregnant or not. I have only done it after 28 days but probably had that time in my head because of ultrasound after the 28 days. The blood test took about 5 minutes in the surgery to get a result, the vet is satisfied with its accuracy and the cost was a lot less than ultrasound. I have had a false negative on ultrasound, missed a single pup, Had it been found we would have had a caesar, as it was we lost the pup from a very special girl. I haven't been able to get her in whelp since. Gablehaus -
We have found when we use part of an old mattress cover, piece of chenille bedspread etc., something to give the pups a bit of traction we get fewer swimmers than with a slippery surface under them. We still use many layers of newspaper underneath then a covering. It does make more washing but worth it imho.
