I'd like black too please.

I feed my pet dogs (not the 'showies') on Coprice working dog and they do really well on it, shiny coats, happy, healthy etc. I find it good value too at about $26 for 20kg.

I'll have two please - haven't tried clicker training before but seeing as I have at least two of everything else doggy, I must need these too Thanks

Yeah, come back but not for a few weeks ok? That way I'll be in Ballarat which is closer and hopefully have a job and enough money to come! I was so dissapointed I couldn't make it sounds like it was very worthwhile. -
 You'll like this, today is my 2nd last training session with the GSDclub here and......its raining! Guess I spoke too soon
-
Oh, thats right Ballarat = rain/cold. I've only been away for 4 years and I've already forgotten about it. I don't think I've trained in the rain once up here. <sigh> Oh well, such is life. I'm a bit excited at the thought of trying fun stuff like flyball, agility and tracking. Can't do any of that stuff here, I've always wanted to get Chili to do lots of things because I think she's capable of it. Maybe not agility though, dunno that she's that coordinated! Looking at the website, I'd say she'd be a good class 2 / just into class 3 but she's only done show training for the last few months so I'll have to start practicing again once I've packed up and settled in.

Ok, thanks I'll check that out. I did puppy preschool with my first GSD Bayliss at Ballarat dog obedience, one of the ladies who took it had GSDs and just loved him! He was pretty loveable though Do you only do flyball training on Sunday mornings? (sorry if it tells me on the site, still looking) Thats when GSDclub is on too  Oh well, I can alternate. Chili is 18 months old, she knows good basic obedience but she's very social and I dunno how reliable her recall would be. We can give it a go and do some more training anyway. She's great with other dogs and people. Sounds like lots of fun, you might see a mad GSD there in a few weeks.

Hi guys, It sounds like you all have a lot of fun at flyball, can you tell me a bit more about it? Like, can GSDs do it? Where abouts do you have to go to do it and do you teach them how or just compete? What sort of equipment do you need (they are wearing a special harness??) What level of obedience do the dogs need to have? As you know, I'm moving to Ballarat and if its ok for GSDs to do flyball, I bet she'd give it a red hot go...she's a fit, crazy, ball mad dog

Sorry for your loss, I'm sure they are playing pain-free and happy at the bridge. RIP beautiful girls. What is hemolytic anemia if you don't mind me asking?

An update on Indi's 'wild fur": I decided to give the coating idea (suggested by Gunoush ) a go because I remember when I was helping a friend with her Goldies this worked well for her too. Seeing as I'm not much chop at sewing, I bought a Weatherbeeta coat for her from Horseland. At least its well made and wasn't very expensive at $29.95. I sewed satin inside over the sheepskin to make her all nice and shiney and FLAT like suggested. This afternoon I wetted her coat down, put on the new coat and had a play with her for about an hour (HEAPs of photos to come in the photo section) and check out the difference it made in that short time : So thanks for the help, I'm sure if I leave it on her in the car on the way to the show she'll be perfect by the time we get there. Does anyone know how I can stop the coat from slding down towards her head when she leans over to pick up a toy? Like a tail strap or something? :D

Thanks everyone, I've managed to use other timber but I'll investigate the wading pools too, sounds like another good option.

I've done a search around, but can't find any info on whether treated pine would be ok to use for part of my whelping box. Chances are it would be on bits that the pups wouldnt have a lot of access to, but knowing pups, could chew if they really wanted to. I'm thinking that because its poisonous to burn, it wouldnt be a good idea but I've got heaps of it so if anyone knows, it would save me a few $$$$ Thanks

Help! Indi (5mth old GSD) has had this 'wild' fur problem for the last maybe couple of months, but it seems to be getting worse! She's got her first show coming up in May I've never seen anything like it, she is a bit of a water baby but she doesnt have access to the clam everyday and I've never seen her sleeping on her back to squash the fur up this way or anything? She's a strange pup, her other best trick is to hide her bones and kong in the water bucket so a few days later when I go to change it she has a nice marinated bone and I'm

Maybe he's running around playing with my beautiful Bayliss having a great time. Bayliss, if you are...dont be too rough and you must share the squeaky toys!

Don't blame yourself, the kittens at the bridge needed a special kitten to play with and Peta was chosen. Get your mum to give you a big hug (always makes me feel better) and know that we are thinking of you.

Tiger was the least attractive of the GSDs there on the night, but dont tell her that, she thinks that shes a show dog! She did well as a young dog in showing, but just doesnt have 'it' thats why she needs to learn to love being in the spotlight in the obedience ring instead. 'Rogue" the GSD who won on Sun, does show training with my other girl Chili and she is just in love with him, he's a beautiful boy. I think that Enya should get extra pats for staying still when the little min poodle started squeaking during the down stay on saturday, sounded just like a toy! I thought that Rogue and the irish setters little game during the stays on sunday were just the cutest, although the owners didnt think so! I thought the same thing about the judge, I wonder if the dogs were thinking he'd forgotten something when he left without checking their teeth! They probably smiled at him anyway just in case!

Hi! Sorry to hijack your thread, but i was at that trial too. I my female GSD Tiger in encouragment too. I got Tiger a year ago because she had a bit of a fear of men and the breeder was worried that she wouldnt pass breed survey. Anyway, she just LOVES obedience and this was our second encouragement trial. Last weekend we came very last at the GSDCV one in Melbourne and I was so down about it, the other dogs were just perfect. So we had a ball on sat night and sun morning. It was great to see some other breeds too as we get a bit too GSD focussed. Enya looks like a sweetie. Tiger ended up doing well, with a 2nd on sat and then we won on sun   . There was a few others from GSD club that did well too, but Tiger has a few years on some of the others, which makes me feel guilty in a way, because GSDs take so long to mature. The irish setter in the class was only 16 months old, my GSD Chili is the same age and I couldnt imagine her being so focussed for half that time. While Tiger hasnt trained in obedience for long, she has matured as a dog if you know what i mean. I thought the man judge was nice too, though I wasnt sure how Tiger would go in the stand free, he seemed to really stand over them for that.

So sorry, I know exactly how you feel because I lost my Bayliss at 2 1/2. He is also watching over his sheep at his final resting place. RIP beautiful Luther, a truly brave dog.

Todays not an annaversary or anything, I just really miss him today. I stopped at his grave while I fed the others and had a chat. He was such a great dog. My beautiful Bailey, i see you everyday in the things you have passed on to your cheeky neice Chili rat face, she loves the puppies just like you did, annoys the cats just as much as you did and I wouldn't trust her with the sheep if my life depended on it! I miss you especially swimming at the weir, you were always so worried that someone would go out too far. Poor Chili couldnt swim well enough to save herself let alone anyone else! You were always with me, and did well at anything we did together, bike rides, obedience, long car drives to Ballarat. I miss you mate, hope you have lots of puppies to play with at the bridge. Just because I have others, doesnt mean I've forgotten about you. You will always be my special boy, I hope you know that. If I had one wish it would be to have been there with you at the end.

Very sorry to hear about your boy, I haven't experienced lymphosarcoma before but I know what its like to lose your best mate. My 2 1/2 year old GSD Bayliss was taken suddenly a few years ago and I was just devestated. I guess all you can do is just love him, spend alot of time with him and know that we are thinking of you. Fingers crossed that the vet has got it wrong. I would've given anything to give Bailey one last kiss on his nose.

If you're talking about mine, thanks! Thats Chili rat face, and I think shes good looking too Hey Purple Julie, while he may not be becoming breakfast, I have to say your cat doesnt look too impressed!! My first dog Bayliss and first cat Akira had the same kind of relationship, i have a photo just like that one but not on the computer. I know exactly what you're saying Rockstar, its like I'm fairly sure the dog just wants to play, but is it worth the risk? Thats how I feel anyway. I guess I'm lucky that Zac is just boarding with me..and in the end if i chose to do nothing its not something that I will have to worry about for the rest of his life. How about this, do you have a crate, cat carrier or something that you could restrain the cat in whilst inside for a while? Maybe, if the dog can have access to the cat without the cat being in danger, you could gradually teach the dog to have a quick sniff then go away and lie down, while at the same time the cat isnt doing anything much to get the dog going and perhaps he'd get bored and leave it alone anyway? If you did that for awhile, and felt you could trust the dog, maybe start letting the cat walk by outside while he's on a lead...let him have a quick sniff and lay down or sit or something? Dunno if that makes any sense

I'm having trouble with my 11month old boarder GSD Zac and my cats. My own dogs are good with the cats, Chili gets a bit rough but responds well when told 'enough'. One of my cats is in a pen adjacent to the dog yard n pens. Zac jumps up on the pen door to see what shes doing all the time, especially when hes excited - it becomes like a habit - somethings happening, better check the cat. I've started squirting him when I catch him jumping on the door, working slowly. the other cat thats loose almost got eaten by him the other day, luck he's a fit cat because Zac is pretty fast too. Dunno what to do about that, other than try to keep the cat out of the dog yard - problem is that cat has grown up here with the dogs never bothering him, he doesnt know that the dogs might eat him.
