  1. Oh ok, thats interesting! I asked my vet to confirm when we went back a week after Monza started his meds and he told me again, not to take him anywhere but my place until he was off the cortisone. I've taken him to my parents place but no where else. He's 32kg and on 40mg a day at the moment - perhaps when it drops down further I'll start taking him out to safe places. Thanks Danois
  2. I've got a 15 month old GSD who is recovering from steriod responsive meningitis. He's currently on 2 tablets a day and will be for a few more weeks before the dose is lowered again. When he first started on the coristone (6 tablets a day), he was really hard to deal with because he was STARVING (so he thought!), and always wanting to drink, peeing like a racehorse etc With the reduction in medication has come less of these things - he's now drinking and peeing normally, still quite hungry but not screaming every time the fridge is opened anymore!! He's very food aggressive at the moment but I'm leaving him until he's off the meds to deal with it because I don't think its fair to tell him off when his body thinks he's so hungry. He's fine with my other dogs, as long as no food is involved. My vet said I couldn't take him out until he was completely off the cortisone, which is months Best wishes for your pups recovery
  3. I've heard that you can wet some paper towel and then brush the suspected flea dirt onto it - because flea dirt contains blood, if what you brush onto the paper dissolves and turns red/brown you can assume your dog does have fleas.
  4. Thinking of you griff RIP Sinna Young again at the rainbow bridge
  5. If your pup is entire, the out of character fear could be because she is about to come into season - I've noticed with a couple of mine that things which are normally nothing, like a gate banging, becomes something they get concerned about when they're soon to come in season.
  6. Have you cat owners tried Maxi Cat made by The Great Aussie Petfood Company? I've had my cats on it for a few years now, its great value and they love it (though mine aren't at all fussy!) Its gone up in price recently but I think its somewhere around $20-$25 for a 10kg bag.
  7. My dogs are all thriving on Great Barko - doing better on it than anything I've fed before
  8. I like the Blackdog heavy duty training collars - they're a martingale with fabric rather than chain (I've never had it cut the coat of any of my dogs) and super strong.
  9. There are highly driven show line GSDs around, just a matter of careful research and looking around
  10. I'm really glad to hear things are looking up - best of luck with puppy preschool and keep us updated on how things go with Samantha
  11. She swims in the dam here and it is improving as her muscle tone increases but I have no idea if it will be a permanent thing or not. She's 7, and although thats not old, I'd like to get her out there and titled I'll speak to my vet about getting a letter and perhaps just enter one trial, one day and see how she handles it. Thanks for all the replies
  12. One of my dogs, who trials in Novice, broke her front leg a few months ago. Its healed up really well and she hoons around just fine! Because it was splinted for quite awhile, she lost a lot of muscle in her shoulder and being quite a lazy dog, is still building that up to its normal level. When she gets tired, she does limp a little bit - not bad, but most dog people would notice. It doesn't bother her and my vet is very pleased with her. I'm keen to enter her in the upcoming Geelong trials, but I'm not sure on the rules. What would happen if she was limping a bit? Thanks in advance
  13. Rest in peace Ashka  So sorry for your loss brigidstarr
  14. I had the same thing happen with exactly the same card - my shots weren't important though luckily. I reformatted it and it works, but its not reliable and often it will lock up and corrupt the files.
  15. Sounds to me like you're doing the right things - but I'd just ride it out and don't stress about her. Lots of GSDs, especially the really active ones, struggle to keep weight on until they reach maturity. You'll probably find once she hits 2, she'll suddenly start getting rounder with little extra effort on your part - thats what I've found with mine. I've used Great Barko and found it great to put weight on, but I think in your situation, with a dog with a sensitive tum, probably best to stick with the RC which you know agrees with her.
  16. Heres a few of Dads holiday snaps taken with his Pentax
  17. My dad has the K100D. Its not a bad camera but I much prefer my Canon. He's very happy with it, he couldn't justify spending the extra to get something else and he's picked up some lenses quite cheaply from ebay for it. He got some great shots when they were on holidays recently, I can find some to put up if you like isiss?
  18. Sasha's Blend does have a very fishy smell - as well as the goldie, one of my GSDs who failed her hips is on it also, and they both eat it no problems Maybe they're the greedy pigs!
  19. Our old Golden Retriever has been suffering from soreness in her joints for quite a few years. We put her on Sasha's Blend and its done wonders for her. She also has fish oil, which helps reduce inflammation. Lots of people seem to recommend Joint Guard over Sasha's - theres heaps of threads about it. We tried Joint Guard for a few tubs but didn't find it made any difference, and the Sasha's for us is easier to get and cheaper. Her breeder, who is a vet nurse, said that the Hills J/D food was really good but we figure she's doing well with the fish oil and Sasha's so we kept her on her usual diet.
  20. Sorry for your loss NAO :D RIP Ruby
  21. I've been using it for a few months - I pay $26 for a 22kg bag of Great Barko. With the exception of one, all my dogs like it and are holding their weight well on it. One of my GSD bitches, who has always been a bit fussy, doesn't like it much and will only eat it with lots of chicken mince mixed in. The greyhounds are getting fat on it! Its quite a heavy food (I still soak it, just in case) so you don't feed as much as you would most dry foods. Seems to be quite fatty so introduce it slowly if your dogs have sensitive tums, and its helping bring out really nice coats here too.

    Asher

I don't think it would come as a suprise to anyone to hear that Asher was my special favourite from this litter, he was what I would've wanted if I'd been looking for a boy pup - he was outgoing, driven, naughty and so beautiful. I said to my friends, I hope Nicole picks silver boy because they're a perfect match - and they were. She named him after the demon of courage - Aguares and he lived up to it, being both a bit of a demon and very brave right to the end I will always remember Asher as the leader of the puppies I will remember him as an extremely fit young dog who chased Checa around my paddocks for hours the last time I saw him at Easter, and could swim laps of my dam for so long it made me dizzy! Most of all, I will remember his absolute devotion to his mum Nicole - everyone could see he had eyes only for her. Asher was a dog who was so very loved and will be so very missed RIP Asher - run with Bayliss and Zac
  23. Thanks very much for your post and advice Wylie I'm glad your girl came good, she sounds like trouble
  24. I wouldn't say she's reluctant to use it- I think she's not using it presently because it used to be sore and she hasn't used it for 5 weeks and because its still wrapped up, she probably thinks she can't still. The splint was sort of spoon shaped with her paw sitting in the bottom of it, so she hasn't put any weight on it for the whole time. I'd imagine it would feel strange and stiff
