Aww Texas has always been my fav DOL dog - I've always swooned over his pics Will look forward to more pics and hope that you have many more opportunities for fun and photos

I got one of these about 6 months ago and it works fine! Can't argue with the price, though you have to wait for it to arrive from overseas http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BIKE-BICYCLE-WIRELE...=item51932b4439

The greyhound man I take my dogs to recommends Friars Balsam - and yes, definitely do it outside and don't wear good white runners if your dog is likely to stand on your feet after application!

We had our almost 16 year old golden retriever PTS about 8 weeks ago. She didn't 'tell' us but there had been a few small signs that the end was approaching. She had always been a great lover of food, and her appetite became poor. Food was her currency so that was a biggy. A bout of vestibular syndrome a few weeks prior seemed to aggrevate her arthritis and the night before she was PTS, she lost her back legs from under her. Even though she was supervised and quickly helped up that time, that wasn't something we wanted her to have to go through, and she couldn't be watched 24/7. It ws tough, that morning she was spritely and happy to be going in the car - we were all sick to the stomach about if it was the right decision. The vet said her blood pressure was very low and that we were doing th right thing. I had so much worry because I was the family member who pushed the others into agreeing it was time - had I made the right decision? We spoke about it once we'd done our crying and I found out we all felt it was right - none of us wanted her to have to go through something bad for the decision to be made.

I hope to get a couple of our girls through, with the help of my sister. The 3 of them have all been biked to stay fit for showing, so they're used to doing between 6-8km. When it cools down, we'll get back into it and see how they're going closer to the ETs

Awesome! I'll do 'My GSDs'
-
Oooh, would it be ok if I did this as well as the individual dog 52W4D?

Same, mine is still going strong in crates, the trailer etc after being used for litters almost 2 years ago. Didn't find the pee sat on top or the rubber came off.

I'd like to have another go - I started last year, then my camera died and by the time I got a new one, I'd missed so many weeks I felt it wasn't worth continuing Not going to change dogs though, Termi will be my model for 2011

When I've dropped animals in to be desexed, there has always been a check box on the consent form about the tattoo - plus the vet has always double checked with me. Our GSD pups are done at 7 weeks - they generally yelp, get a cuddle, lick the tattooists nose and after a snooze, all is well again Never had puppies scratch or be bothered by them.

The question was would the dog feel the heat more or less with the hair loss it has, not if the hot weather would cause it

Your Experiences With The Front Clipping Harness
ish replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I tried the Sense-ation one and found it good, I probably had the size bigger than I needed for my bitch but it even though the front strap flexed a little, it still pulled her around to face me if she pulled out. -
There has been talk recently on a GSD forum I'm on about the CCD class - a few people are saying it was intended as a class to encourage people to trial and its now being used by experienced triallers for 'trophy hunting' The said if you've trialled with a dog past CCD, you shouldn't be able to go back to it - even with a new dog. What are peoples thoughts on this opinion? I've titled a dog in novice and another in CCD who is now ready to go on to novice. I had planned on starting my next dog in CCD, and any following dogs after that too. I think the exercises are set at a basic level for dogs as well as their handlers.

Is Canned Food Bad For Dogs Teeth?
ish replied to Sasha (Alexander)'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When I worked for Petstock, we did a tour of the Uncle Bens factory (they make Advance, Pal, Chum, My Dog, Whiskas, etc). The bloke told us that all the meat chunks in the canned food (dog and cat) are completely manufactured - they have special machines that layer the mix of stuff into lines which is then formed into chunks to look like real meat - the fish in the cat food cans is painted pink on one side to look like real fish etc. -
Whats The Best Gossip You Heard About Yourself Or Your Dogs?
ish replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have 'so many' bitches because I breed unregistered litters aside from my registered ones, to make money. Funny thing was that the person who told me someone else had said it, was the one who started the rumour herself - and she's been caught out several times since doing similar. Karma is all I can say  -
Yes, you would need to. In practice, I don't technically 'charge' the clicker anyway.....just wait for pup to focus on me, click then treat. Within a few attempts they work out what's going on - too smart for me by half!!! Ok, so it doesn't need to be too formal then - thanks!
-
This is probably a stupid question - but if you're going to train using a marker word such as yes, do you first need to 'charge' the word like you would a clicker?

I think we paid $300 for my original trailer too Have a think about the colourbond - its certainly cheaper but it adds quite a bit of weight. We bought the doors pre-made - one of the trailer manufacturers gave us the details of the place in Melb that makes them. They are one peice with the solid and wire doors, locks & keys etc ready to go. Actually, if you email me I can run you through exactly what materials he used and where to get the doors etc if you like?
-
We spend probably $1000 -$1500 completely rebuilding mine - we didn't keep anything from the original trailer but used it as a template. That was using all quite heavy duty materials as I wanted it made tough! The 'skin' of mine is colourbond, which is much cheaper than aluminium but unfortunately alot heavier too - probably the only thing I'd do differently if I was doing it again.

I can only think of a couple of occasions when I've had my GSDs out in public and people have stopped to ask about them, or give them a pat. I know they're a common breed and don't attract as much attention as the rarer ones. Sadly, even though mine are more than happy to lap up attention, there are lots of people that think of them as 'police dogs' and are wary I find it really sad when children show an interest in the dogs and the parents snatch them away Personally, I don't know how anyone could resist these faces
