Yes, he is terrific - I used him for my dogs when I lived up that way too, he'll have Mica feeling better in no time

The only way you can tell if she has good hips is if she's xrayed
-
Can you tell us why 9 weeks after a season???? The ligaments holding the hips in, slacken off as the prog levels drop and whelping time approaches. This happens whether the bitch is pregnant or not. Yes, this was the explaination given
-
I read recently that Karen Hedberg advised the GSD council that there was no reason to hold off immediately after a season, but 9 weeks after a season should be avoided
-
My girl was confirmed in whelp today, vet estimates 3-5 puppies Woohoo, can't wait!
-
What a shame, after all you've both been through Breeding is so heartbreaking at times. Wishing you lots of luck for next time
-
I agree with Pockets - GSDs are big 'talkers' so whining is pretty normal and a lifelong habit with some!
-
Yes I've heard of Wyburn sending xrays back or noting the positioning was incorrect - definitely worth travelling to a vet you know will do it right rather than having to put them through it twice What a bummer Risyntira, hope he gives the ok for another try
-
I'd definitely be interested in trying chicken based BH - one of my dogs has a red meat intollerance
-
A good piece of advice I was given is to have the car set up incase a dash to the vet is needed - newspaper, blankets/towles etc, a collar/lead somewhere easy to grab, box with blankets for the pups and heat packs and a tank with plenty of fuel. It takes time to get all that ready which you may not have once the bitch has started

When they're puppies, we hold them over our knees with their front legs in one hand and their back legs in the other hand and gently but firmly bend them over our knee to help the roach form. If you do it right, they can't walk, so they're easy to catch, and they always win at the shows You need to do some research on GSD anatomy to start with (a roached back and sloped back are different things), read the breed standard and then visit some shows. I would also suggest getting a new vet seeing as you have GSDs and yours doesn't seem to be knowledgable about them.

Elbow Problems - Golden Retriever
ish replied to falconer20's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When I've had dogs hip/elbow xrayed at Monash, they use 'twilight sedation' which is a light sedative that doesn't last long. It means the dog can be manipulated into position without discomfort and stay still for the xrays, but still come home within an hour or 2. If you don't use Monash, please make sure you find a vet that is experienced in taking and reading xrays - unless they know how to position correctly and read the xray accurately, you might be left as confused as you are now. -
Often when you hear of a dog attacking a person, further details show that a dog has attacked their dog while out walking etc and they have interfered and copped bites. Is that really a dog attack on a person? I think not. Completely understandable reaction when your own dog is under threat but dogs involved in a fight are fighting to protect themselves and don't distinguish between the other dog or a persons hand, no matter how friendly they usually are

Elbow Problems - Golden Retriever
ish replied to falconer20's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ray Fergason at Monash Vet Clinic is an excellent vet to see for xrays - he does many of the hip and elbow xrays for breeders in Vic. http://www.monashvet.com.au/ Elbow dysplasia is considered 'polygenic' or influenced by several genes and environmental factors too. Good elbows in the parents and previous generations doesn't always mean good elbows in their offspring unfortunately. -
Another happy Dyson owner here. They might be expensive to purchase initially, but they last - mine is 8 years old and still going strong. Mum had one that was a good couple of years older than mine, one of the first Dyson models that came out, and it was retired only this year. I spent just over $100 sending mine away for a service last year and its as good as new again.

Happy Paws Tuna Fudge - the dogs go bananas for it!

You can pick up 2nd hand dog trailers reasonably cheap (keep an eye on the Dogzonline classifieds) and it would be fairly easy to deck one out to suit the pooch and the camping gear. Trailers really do make life easy, you know the dog is safe and secure in a well ventilated, insulated area. If you need to stop and don't want to get the dog out, they're not roasting in the car - just open the trailer windows and away you go. You could even do without the crate and let the dog sleep in the trailer, its very own home away from home! Most dog trailers have a tack box on the front and you can usually put one on the back too (I've got a full width one for my gazebo). You can put roof racks and a roof basket on top for more storage, a PVC canvas bag or roof pod keeps everything dry. Thats in addition to the bays inside the trailer that the dog isn't taking up

I'd say he's all GSD and a very gorgeous one at that. The bi-colour isn't common, you see it more in working lines Thanks so much for rescuing him and I hope you have a long time together with much happiness -
I had a set of xrays, and know of someone else's too, that arrived in WA just before the anouncement and both sets were returned.

In what way does it work out more expensive, are you charged for using Ozentries or do the clubs put the fees up to use it?

This is a slightly older pup (15 weeks or so) with the Rogz chain martingale collar
-
He was around 8 weeks in those pics. I think its the size they generally recommend for beagles etc (there are breed recomendations on the back of the tag) but as someone else suggested, you can take pup in to try collars on - good opportunity for some socialising! Our current pup has one of the Rogz chain martingale collars and thats been good too So much to chose from, have fun shopping!!!
