Previously I used ivermectin on severe cases of demodex mange for foster dogs the charity had rescued. But the oral ivermectin has to be slowly introduced & increased every 3 days over a 1-2 week period to reach the correct dosage. This ensures the body becomes accustomed accordingly to this severely toxic medication. However, in that 1-2 week time frame, the mange can become SO much worse (as technically, the ivermectin has still not reached its correct dosage yet). My vet went to the Bravecto launch. One of the skin specialists advised that Bravecto couldn't yet be marketed yet in Australia for demodex mange, however, it had good results. We therefore trialled Bravecto on 2 of our foster dogs. I was astounded that within 4 days I started to see a noticable difference. The mange cleared quicker, easier and cheaper than all the other options previously used. 1 tablet was all I used for both dogs!!! Obviously you still need to do all the necessary footwork to find out if there are any underlying health issues that is causing the demodex mange to break out. I will continue to use Bravecto for the next demodex mange dogs that come into my care. Good luck. :)

I totally understand. Many people are reluctant to get an older dog if they've recently been through some heartache. Only she will know if he is what she's looking for - no obligations whatsoever. With seniors, people either want them or don't and I never try to 'sell/promote/encourage them to anybody. However, he would be a 'gift' to a kind person who has already adopted previously through rescue and "if" she is interested, I would be happy to forgo an adoption fee to see this little guy in a loving home, with someone who will appreciate him and the situation they themselves are in. .

Can you send me your email address either on here or privately, and I will send you some photos accordingly. He's a dear chap. Very spritely. Even his surrender notes discuss his love for children. He's the perfect little house-monster for a home with some kids. But I also get that some families don't want to commit to the seniors & that's ok too. He is not currently in Sydney as he's doing his rehab in the country, so you would need to be mindful of this. But he can easily be brought back to Sydney at our cost.

Would 11 years be too old? I have a new one in care, ready in about 2-3 weeks time. Active, happy, kind, adores children. Has previously been a very much loved family member until elderly owner went into care. Listed as a foxie x maltese but looks more silky terrier. Am happy for the dog to be placed into a 'good' and loving home with the right family.

I just received a call from a lovely older lady in Canberra area looking for a senior dog / therapy dog for her friend's husband, who has cancer and not long to live. They are looking for a small, senior dog, that would be good company for the man during his last few days/weeks/months. However, she has made it very clear to me that the wife has no intention of wanting to keep the dog after husband passes away. She 'thinks' & 'hopes' though, the wife may have a change of heart down the track.

I made some 'Adopt Me' jackets for the dogs to walk around in. Bought the corderoy jacket from a $2 shop. Went to Crazy Riot - (art & craft shop) and they had felt Letters that you could peel off on one side and stick. I stuck them onto my new jackets - worked a treat - cost me all of around $7 I think. Really? This is wrong in so many ways I'm not sure where to start. Surely, the group to which she belongs does not sanction this kind of behaviour? If she's got extra time on her hands, don't go wasting other peoples, dedicate it towards something more positive.......or simply get a life. S My thoughts exactly. I steer clear of trouble makers & people even associated with them. It's very disturbing behaviour & doesn't say much about the person in question.

Muttrus, I would be more inclined to trust your gut feeling. For a fact I know someone who in Sydney (fostering for a well known group) regularly attends "pretend" meet & greets at foster homes of other rescue groups to check them out. I was given a blow by blow account of the people, their homes, the animals, what she felt was wrong, etc.

I met with a potential adopter last night - she complained about the new Petrescue site. She said it came up with listings after listings after listings & gave up I mentioned the Advance Search button & she just shrugged her shoulder and said the whole thing 'just got too hard'. She found my dog through my Facebook page. I don't get calls about any of my dogs now. The enquiry line just seems to of dried up. The dogs are just sitting in foster care with no enquiries & we are unable to take on any further poundies. I now really feel for the new lot of dogs coming into the pounds...

I always make a point of advising my adopters how many times I'll be in touch with them during the two week trial - that way, they understand exactly what I expect of them and vice versa. I give an option to my adopters to either ring/text/email me that night or the next day with an update of how he/she is settling in. I ring or email 5 days later to check up on everything and then I leave the adopters alone until just before the two week trial period is up.

Hi, I have a friend now looking for new companion to join her home. For the first time she & husband have decided to get an adult through rescue. Her & husband live in the Newcastle, NSW area. They are experienced, long-term Rottie owners and have another dog to consider. Two were recently surrendered at Renbury Farm but have since gone into care with a rescue who like to rehome pairs together. This couple are looking only for 1. Can anyone recommend any Rottie's available for adoption that may be suitable? They have no children and their fur babies are their children.

I think it means the animals are used as blood donors for the vets...
