Responsible Pet Ownership Program Vic
Sue & Waldo replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just to go slightly OT (sorry) the Lort Smith have a PALS program (Pets as Loving Support). Dogs go into hospitals, nursing homes, etc to visit patients. there is a temp. test and police check. It is all volunteer based and so rewarding. I am assisting with the testing and we need more helpers. Visiting is currently in Melbourne and Geelong. PM me if you are interested. -

I will be in rally novice and maybe obedience cd with Waldo the wonderful (with the handler who can stuff him up at times) black mini schnauzer. You could also look for the bored husband who is coming down for the weekend and he has never even seen a competition yet. I am trying to explain to him the difference between the events and that you can't just suddenly decide to enter -
Bairnsdale Trial In November

Yep. Just wondering if I have enough faith to enter Advanced Rally for Morwell. I have 1 Novice pass. What are you entering? Hi Sue and Waldo Just a reminder of the rules taken out of the rule book.... "NOTES: An Exhibit which has gained sufficient awards to qualify for the title of RD, RA, or RE shall NOT be eligible to compete in a higher class at a Rally Trial until such time as the owner/s have lodged an application for recognition of the title with the Canine Control in the State or Territory in which the registered owner/s reside." Ah-good point. So there goes my big plan to get Rally Advanced this year. -
Well done-but why on earth do you describe it as a little brag! I would be over the moon!

Just in case anyone is thinking of going down to Bairnsdale the link below is for a pet friendly motel-dogs are permitted in rooms. the cost is $90 for a double room. He asked if the dog was well behaved and then added if I would like to answer that after the trial  www.comfortinnkansascity.com.au

It is OK to want one but getting one might be a bit different. How about putting all that "wanting one" energy into exploring breeds and breeders and get a puppy a bit later on. I don't think you are crazy wanting one-I often want one!

You class this as a small brag? Way to go!

The following is on the Vic DPI web site... The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, on behalf of the Government, is offering financial support to non-government, not-for-profit organisations that improve the welfare of animals. These include animal shelters, organisations promoting responsible animal ownership education, community cat or dog foster care networks, and groups that provide relief facilities and services during an emergency. The $1.6 million Animal Welfare Fund has been developed in recognition of the excellent companion animal welfare services which are being delivered across Victoria by many not-for-profit organisations. These grants recognise that companion animals play a significant role in the lives of Victorians. Projects will be considered for funding which will provide new infrastructure, education programs and emergency animal relief activities within Victoria to benefit the welfare of domestic animals. The first year of Grant funds will be allocated to projects involving cats and/or dogs only. Applications for grant funding in 2012/2013 will open on 1 September 2012, and close 30 September 2012. The priority areas for this year’s grants are: Community education programs on responsible ownership of companion animals; Animal relief services and use of facilities to the community during an emergency; and Improvement in the rates of reuniting pets to their owners and re-homing of pets. The small grants program from the Animal Welfare Fund is designed to provide up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) to not-for-profit organisations for small projects that benefit the welfare of companion animals. The large grants program will provide grants from $10,001 up to $50,000 (GST inclusive) to not-for-profit organisations for projects that benefit the welfare of companion animals. Frequently asked questions, including application information Apply online for small and large grants (applications open 1 September 2012)

Well done! Who says that you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
-
mini's are the best after all Well done Rory and the tollers!

No video. Pity because after his recall in the am he picked up the marker for the figure of 8 and did a huge zoomie around the ring Hopefully I can make the next trial to video and catch another of those 'exercise finished' performances. lol. I couldn't believe it!

I have a brag. Waldo entered his first trial at Moorabbin today and he is a little star! this was in spite of him acting a bit overwhelmed at first. He did settle down though. In the AM trial he came 3rd in CCD with a very unlucky NQ of 84. I lost 3 points in SFE for having too loose a lead which made me too close to him. I lost 3 points in the recall because he came in like a F1 car and took a flying bound at me and then sat straight in front. He struggled with the figure 8 in heeling because he was spooked by a crated dog near the ring. We scored 87 in RallyO so our first ever Q in our first trial. In the PM trial he came second in CCD with a great Q of 90. I was over the moon. I was so over the moon that I bombed out in RallyO but I didn't mind.

The ANKC Rules state: An Honor Exercise must be included in the Rally Excellent Class. Prior to each class, the Judge will designate either the sit or the down for the Honor Exercise as well as the placement in the ring and will also designate where the Handler will stand during the exercise – either next to or facing the dog. The Honor Exercise must not be in the path of the dog and Handler team that follows. Volunteer dogs will be used for both Honoring the first dog in the class and as a course run – through when the last dog performs the Honor Exercise. After completing the course, each dog and Handler team may either re-enter through the finish gate, or they may proceed directly to the Honor Station. The dog must remain in the designated position to Honor the next team’s entire course. This exercise must be performed on lead. For the Honor Exercise the Honor Steward will monitor each team, record the score and immediately report it to the Table Steward. The Queensland DVD add these comments: You can talk to the dog through the Honour exercise There are no re-tries for this position I was taught that you cannot leave the ring but must proceed straight to the Honor position Hope this helps-I am only "pretending" to be ready for Novice. I think I am more ready for CCD LOL ETA the dog must always enter and leave the ring on lead so going out to reward may not be possible

I know this is a little OT but what was the one point deducted for on the recall? I've replayed it and can't find any fault - what have I missed i wonder if the sit at the present was a bit crooked or the heel up was a bit off-hard to tell at the angle of the filming. Bit steep though I reckon.
