  1. Just answering this at face value. No idea if ANKC breeders have any excemptions. If you don't get what you want in 4 litters then you are never going to. Whatever the size of the litter. Even 4 singletons has given you 4 to choose from to continue on with. Personally I would never breed more then 2 litters from one bitch cause my breed does usually have more then one or two. Mind you my 1st litter had only 2 pups, 2nd 8, both the same bitch. 3rd, from the bitch from the 1st litter leased back, had 6. Highly likely I will only breed the next bitch once. I am also in a breed hard to find suitable homes for. I also don't have a problem with good breeders have "pet home" only litters as the pups are still from health tested parents etc. But I still think 4 litters is plenty. This is for purebred, registered dogs. Oddles etc shouldn't have any litters.
  2. Greyhound - the potential to break easily. Mine have been pretty good, most things that have happened can happen to any dog, but I do hold my breath when they are let off for a run.
  3. yes knuckling over and usually very easily fixed, can appear overnight
  4. I hear you! I need a new bag for mine and I am thinking of getting a canvas place to make me one with the pouch on the other side.
  5. I have an Oztrail deluxe compact. I have a dicky back, bad knees and the shoulders aren't crash hot either  but I can put it up and down on my own.
  6. Thanks anne he is booked in at vet for one week from today for another check up. if no improvement, we will get xrays done. i just need to find what food is best to be feeding him going forward as all the research i have done indicated that diet is a large factor to improvement. the kibble he is currently on may be too high in protein -thinking maybe an adult formula instead? Yes an adult formula asap. http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/puppy_feed_program_for_knuckling_over.htm
  7. I had a mixed breed puppy with this and it can just appear overnight. If the leg has been like this for a few weeks and the puppy is now only 9 1/2 weeks old then I would be thinking of something worse then a simple knuckling over. Did you get xrays done? That would be my very next step based on the few weeks the vet said this had been present. Keep in mind you might not get any money spent on vet bills back. You will also have to consider whether you send the pup back and if you decide that, sooner is better then later.
  8. it does ask if you are with an ANKC state body a fair way in but otherwise any breeder can do it. I don't recall if they had a no option for the ANKC bit as I wasn't looking for it
  9. at 4 weeks I would ditch the bottle and go straight to soaked dry food and minced meat - human grade. 4 feeds a day. Agree with showdog, overfeeding will not make them bigger faster. They will grow to their own agenda.
  10. Years ago I had to tell the next neighbours not to let their visiting grandchild feed my 3 dogs Goodo's under the fence. It was a minute gap and my fear was not the dog/s biting the fingers, but if the child got a fright and pulled back the metal fence could have caused damage my dogs would have been blamed for. Sorry but the blame lies with the 8 yo and the supervising adult.
  11. if she wants to be. Maybe Mum has had enough, in which case it's time for you to start feeding ( and cleaning ) the pups. One of my bitches called it quits at 3 weeks with her 2nd litter.
  12. My only question would be, if I am reading your post right, is why you continued to throw the ball when you knew a resource guarder was close by? But I don't think you have a problem dog.
  13. That's great news. FWIW I've had a dog that was in a coma for over 2 days, suspected poisoning, and he made a full recovery. Knocked the stuffing out of him for several weeks but all was well in the end.
  14. I can tell you that puppies can make very aggressive sounds while playing! I wouldn't worry as long as it's only happening while Kyra is playing with toys. Glad all seems to be going well.
  15. I'm guessing that happens with her 6 week check up? There are a few diseases that the parents should have been tested for, those are the health tests you need to see. Staffy's aren't my breed so I can't think of the names of them. They are DNA tests. Look up your states breed club. They will have the names. Unpapered staffy pups are a dime a dozen in pounds and rescues. If you think you might want to breed then you should be thinking about doing it the right way, which is with a fully registered pup who comes from health tested parents and who is health tested herself before being bred from and that the sire is also properly registered and tested. And that you have joined your states governing body and hopefully done a few shows to see if your girl is actually good enough to contribute to the gene pool. It is not easy, nor cheap, to do things the right way but the dogs will be much less likely to pay the price. Do it the wrong way and the dogs are more likely to end up in the pound, and/or with a disease they need not have got, and not overly bred from themselves. If you really love the breed then you should really think hard about doing things the right way.
  16. Have you seen the health test results? The pup could have a touch of mange. Will you be getting main rego papers for her?
  17. Thanks for the tips This is her kibble soaked in a little boiling water and milk.. she wont eat it unless i mush it up to pretty much weetbix. . Should i keep doing what I am doing or just let her figure it out and chew it The Advance kibble is quite large! ! I've never fed Advance so no idea of size. At 4 weeks I would still be mushing it up but she should be able to eat it dry by 6 weeks. And Nekhbet is right, if she can't chew dry she won't be able to chew the chicken necks yet. Coles has brisket bones.
