  1. My breed is unpopular in the ring and pups are rarely bred so................ I don't sell show quality, I sell show potential but all are sold on the understanding they are pets first and foremost. Showing is secondary. All pups I have sold as show potential have titled but I wouldn't be offering a replacement if they hadn't. People would have to wait several years to get another. They also wouldn't be getting any money back. All my pups are sold at the same price, people are sold a pet that may end up suitable for the ring. The pups that should not be shown (or bred) their owners are advised accordingly.
  2. Plenty of breeders only have one female at a time to breed from.
  3. some costs in my experience 3 litters resulting in 2 pups, 8 pups, 6 pups stud fee $1000, $1200, $1500 FS implant around $600 (x 2) Prog testing approx $45 each test, maybe 4 or 5 each litter C-section x 3 average $1000 Vaccinations and microchips each puppy, varied but around $65 each pup Registration of each pup around $30 Health tests of bitches and puppies, Greyhound Neuropathy at approx $95 each Hip/Elbow xrays of my personal breeding dogs in the hundreds, haven't done any for 3 years. Extra heating and cooling costs depending on the season. ALL the food! One pup sold in the 1st litter, covered the stud fee only. 7 pups sold 2nd litter covered the costs. 3rd litter 3 pups sold, didn't come close to covering the costs. I lost several thousand on the 1st litter, cleared around $2500 on the 2nd ( if I didn't add it all up exact ), lost more thousands on the 3rd and the 4th I am planning will lose more thousands. I am doing it for the breed. No other reason and I think I need my head read when I see it all written out like this!!
  4. If you move to a state with BSL laws you very well might need those papers to prove your dog is not a pitbull. I wouldn't buy from this "breeder" as it only costs around $35 to register each pup. Take your time and buy a pup from a ethical breeder who does not charge extra for colour or papers. But having papers, with this breed, to me, is vital.
  5. isn't prey model diet supposed to be like what they would eat in the wild? If so then I would bet that plenty of wild dogs/wolves etc have had a fast day before 12 months of age. Personally it sounds like he is being given too much food currently so just cut it down a bit. Or pick it up and give it to him at the next meal. When I started feeding raw only, way back when, until I got the amount right, my dogs were only eating every 2nd day. I was offering them food everyday but they didn't want it.
  6. I am pretty sure, where I live, once registration came in for cats, that all cats had to be confined to their owner's property. Of course most weren't and still aren't. Hope Cookie is back home and recovering.
  7. nothing to say the cat didn't trespass onto someone elses property and get attacked there. Cat was missing for a lot of hours and they can and do wander a long way. Certainly report the dog for wandering but you can't accuse it of attacking your cat. I thought there was fairly stringent laws regarding cat containment in Emerald?
  8. I have a kennel here made out of marine ply built in 1989, still going strong. Just 4 walls, floor and a flat roof. Screwed together.
  9. you could try adding sardines 3 or 4 times a week
  10. Happy Birthday Maddie, may you have many more
  11. Most trophy shops have catalogues and you can order different plaques etc for various activities. I was able to order some 20 years ago, nowadays google will point you in the right direction
  12. if the dog may stay with you for months at a time then can you commit to the 2hrs walks daily and you do realise it is not that easy for a dog to come into Australia don't you so overseas trips would be out?
  13. ‘3. Exemption: This Order exempts a class of animal, being greyhounds registered under the Greyhound Adoption Program and adopted under contract with ‘Greyhound Racing Victoria’ from the operation of section 27(1)(a) of the Act.’ ‘4. Conditions on exempted animals: Greyhounds exempted under clause 3 must wear an identifiable green collar provided by Greyhound Racing Victoria when outside the owner’s premises’ Section 27(1)(a) relates to the requirement for a greyhound to be muzzled at all times when off the owner’s property, so the exemption allows GAP greyhounds to go into public places WITHOUT wearing a muzzle PROVIDED they are wearing their green number GAP collar. No GAP collar – No Exemption Relating to the control of greyhounds in a public place: Division 2 – Particular Provisions for the control of dogs and cats Section 27 – Restraint of Greyhounds (1) If a greyhound is outside the premises of its owner and is not – a. Muzzled in a manner which is sufficient to prevent it causing injury by biting; and b. Under the effective control of some person by means of a chain, cord or leash – The owner of that greyhound and any person for the time being in charge of the greyhound are each guilty of an offence and liable to a penalty of not more than 3 penalty units for a first offence and 5 penalty units for a second or subsequent offence. (2) For the purposes of subsection (1)(b) control by one person of more than 4 greyhounds at the one time is not ‘effective control’. (3) Subsection (1) does not apply to- a. A greyhound which is being raced, coursed, exercised or trained upon land which the owner is authorised or entitled to use for that purpose; or b. A greyhound while it is being exhibited for show purposes at a fixture conducted under the rules and regulations of the Victorian Canine Association or any successor in law of that association or an organisation approved by the Council of the municipal district in which the fixture is being conducted; or c. A greyhound while it is participating in obedience trials or classes and is under the effective control of a responsible person. So although GAP greyhounds are exempt from wearing a muzzle when out in public, it is still illegal to let ANY greyhound (GAP dogs included) off-lead in public except for those times and places as designated in section 27(3).
  14. actually with Greyhounds it's know your states laws. Here in Vic Greyhounds are not allowed off lead even in off lead parks. On lead at all times 'cept for private property and Dogs Vic sanctioned events. And always muzzled unless a GAP dog whether they need it or not. Pardon if I've misread but I thought greyhound in vic who pass a special test are exempt from the rules? Just there's a person in next suburb over with 2 handsome ones and I've never seen muzzles and sometimes there's greys in the fenced off lead park (we hang around outside the park at a distance for training) and they're offlead and not muzzled so I figured they'd passed this special test? (They're on lead and not muzzled when out of the park) GAP greyhounds are the only ones who can go muzzle free in Victoria and they are supposed to wear a green collar signalling they are GAP greys. Laws may have changed since I last looked but no, no greyhound is allowed off lead in a public place in Victoria, unless competing in a Dogs Vic sanctioned event. Not everyone abides by it. I take my greys to my local obedience club (I'm a member) grounds which is fully fenced with 8 foot high cyclone fencing and allow them off lead, but it is owned by the dog club, not a public place and most certainly not an off lead dog park. But they are muzzled for the first 10 minutes or so due to high arousal :)

  16. Been a bit quiet this thread this year. My rising star Phoebe is staying home :D Good luck Spice
  17. I recently planted a crab apple. I wanted colour and deciduous and crab apple seemed the best fit.
  18. I am really pleased these people have been called to account but a bit annoyed that HD is being promoted as genetic only and can be easily tested for. HD can come from fully tested lines and can be caused by diet and upbringing. And can often just happened. Of course the chances of just happening are lessened by testing but sh!t does still happen. Not condoning these people at all but feel a bit sorry for the good breeders who sometimes throw a HD dog.
