  1. Ferny got her nice new winter warmer from Annie today. ????
  2. I have seen it several times and heard of more. There was a whole breed non awarded at Sydney Royal just gone. Happens more then you think.
  3. Wasn't the owner or handler also the secretary of the Dane club? not really an relative outsider if so? Person involved is/ was current president of Dane Club. Winner is a past president (for several years) of Dane club. Not sure if an overseas judge who was not a breed specialist would know this. The fact your dog has numerous points to its name is really not relevant given dogs accumulate points from all manner of shows. My dog got 1/4 the way to his title without ever beating another dog! Doesn't that make the whole system a bit irrelevant though? That's not at all aimed at you personally Danois, but if it's a points system but dogs can get points without ever beating another dog, and a dog can be awarded at a Royal based on one judge's opinion without points from elsewhere, and that may or may not be better indication of the quality of the dog than points, then where is there any objective measurement? Each dog is judged against the standard, then if there is more then one dog of that breed entered the winner will be the one that, in the judges opinion, most meets the standard. The objective measurement is the standard. Judges can and do withold points.
  4. Do you know which one? I assume they would be in next month's issue. dog news australia I think
  5. Yep critiques are done on BOB RuBOB and Puppy of breed and published in one of the dog mags
  6. My greys have a variety of coats to wear plus different weights. I leave coats on them outside, never had a problem. They are all fleece types of various thickness. I work night shift so in winter time they are rugged up with at least 2 coats on each. Nights I am home they sleep inside with only one on. Daytime the heater is on so rarely wear a coat inside during the day. They have a very good marine ply wooden kennel but prefer to sleep on the tramp beds on the back verandah which are reasonably protected. I don't start putting coats on until it gets to 10 degrees over night and its quite common to get into the minus temps in winter.
  7. whatever dog you get a secure, escape proof dog yard is a MUST for when you are not home.
  8. I'm siting with my back to the crowd. It is so cramped today it's the only way 3 of us can sit down, with our knees all pointing in together. We are still answering questions but give us a break. Been up since 5am and won't be home much before 7pm.
  9. it's all a pack of lies apparently and there are already lawyers involved. Supposedly the 2nd place getter through a hissy fit about not winning and abused the judge.
  10. They weren't on the day I was there
  11. Phoebe has gone on a hunger strike while we are away for the Sydney Royal. Tomorrow I am going to buy her hamburger mince and cook it and add pasta or 2 minute noodles to it. The tin food I bought away with me to add to her dry is not tempting her at all. We can do tough love after she puts on 3 kilos and we are back home. Might get some nutrigel to get her back on track
  12. Well I had a great day. Warrior went DC and RuBOB and Phoebe enjoyed herself at her first Royal. Warrior retires from the ring after this weekend. He's been a very good boy for me for something that doesn't enthuse him
  13. Yeah just trying to cover all angles I guess, like I said I've never owned a male and I'm not too sure in the differences For starters you would have much less chance of coming home to a dead dog sometime down the track
  14. No younger will still challenge older if they feel it is in their own best interest. No way I would have 2 intact bitches of a bull breed. And if you are leaving them outside to their own devises a large amount of the time they will sort things out to suit themselves. Whether that is peacefully is a lottery.
  15. all my cats over the years have lived well into their teens and they have been fed on supermarket food. I'm not about to rush out and change their food.
  16. Try buying some heavy carpet and cut it to the same size as each tread. This worked for a greyhound I know. But a baby gate to make sure there isn't any accidents is a very good idea.
  17. I've owned 5 GSD bitches in the past and wouldn't have one nowadays. I was waiting at a RACV depot around Xmas time to get a new car battery and they had 2 GSD's in the yard. One male, one female and yes, clearly purebred. The bitch was good but the male was just like those in the video. He was magnificent - until he moved. The head OMG was to die for but the topline and those weird hind legs, just made him butt ugly to me. I used to think GSD's were the only breed on the planet but those days are gone.
  18. well of course it's my problem that the dog barks night and day at anything and everything. How silly of me to think that it is unreasonable. Must go to my GP and get drugged!
  19. OMG do you know how loud a little dog can bark?? I mind having a little dog living next to me barking it's fool head off. I have one now.
  20. as much as this whole thread makes my skin crawl you really should have read the whole thread Sheena before commenting as things had changed from the OP
  21. Because if your dog gets off your property the man from the pound will get it and then you will have to pay to get it back again so why not have it on a chain??? How about you build a proper fence to keep it in it's own yard. Bloody pathetic.
