greyhound-regulator-cant-rule-out-continued-live-baiting
Rebanne replied to westiemum's topic in In The News
of course they can't shut it down, it's no different to preventing cruelty to pets. Some people will always do the wrong thing no matter what. Would you like to outlaw pet ownership as well? All that can be done is make the penalties tougher and enforce them. For everyone. -
Total Hip Replacement NSW- recommended vets
Rebanne replied to flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What about the op where they remove the ball totally and let the muscle hold everything in place? A friends dog had that done and lived a good life on 100 acres. She wasn't a working dog but they walked miles every day. Osteosarcoma of the jaw got her in the end. -
depending where they live it is illegal to let a greyhound off lead at a dog park. Not allowed in Vic ( or wasn't last time I checked out the laws )
-
My current dogs both had a dew claw not correctly removed and they are tiny wee things that I occasionally dremel with the others. I agree with the breeder. You know it's there so just trim it if it ever needs it. One of my dogs is now desexed and I didn't bother getting it removed.

so I can book my holidays

Not likely to be mega eosophagus then
-
might need to be checked for mega esophagus. Does he throw up straight after he eats? With no warning most of the time. Or is it anytime of the day with classic I'm going to heave any minute now?

some breeders do charge more for a pup on mains registration but I would be hoping the breeder would be checking the young dog over to see if it is suitable for showing or breeding. If they are just going to swap it over without checking out the dog then IMO they are not much of a breeder. Ring the NSW canine council and ask about your pups papers. Yes there are delays over Christmas but I think most were back by around Jan 10th. Did you get copies of the parents health tests and your pups vaccination card and microchipping paperwork?

I can no longer see the photo either. But I did see the original. Bo idea why it's happening but you could try taping it and see what happens.
-
No way I'd use a commercial road transport for a pup that age. If you had to I'd wait until at least 2 weeks after its 12 week vaccination.
-
Both for my dogs. Yet to have a dog that didn't crunch a neck before swallowing.
-
I'd get her at 8 weeks. You then have her for 4 weeks before you go away. Word up your student on what you want her to do. A large % of pups would be sleeping for a minimum of 8 hrs at night by 12 weeks but you do have to allow for the one who doesn't. You need a good seperate area the puppy could go in while people are away for work. A Cav pup and a large goofy dog will require good management

and that's a very valid thought PC. I'm not yet 60 but have struggled with getting a semi downed greyhound into the car on my own. It's one of the first things I think of when buying another car, could I get a greyhound in it on my own if needed. Luckily the vets in my home town still do house calls and would come out if called. My elderly Mum used them a few times for her elderly pug.

Disturbing leaked video of animal abuse on set of A Dog's Purpose
Rebanne replied to teekay's topic in In The News
The dog certainly went under water at the end and there was some panic by the handler who was in the water by that stage but "they" say the dog was fine. The video stopped after the dog went under so who know's what the truth is. It was very disturbing and I wouldn't recommend any one watch it. I can't get it out of my mind. -
Thousands of Sydney Residents at War With Nuisance Dogs & Owners
Rebanne replied to samoyedman's topic in In The News
I have to say, after having cats confined for over 20 years now, that I have never had trouble with cats trying to dash out or howling to be let out, except for one that had had freedom for approx 12 years. All the other cats over that time where quite happy to be kept inside. Maybe because they have the choice to be inside or out in the cattery because it is attached to the house? -
What to do with dog when I go on vacation?!

This is a dog that is also supposed to have HD. Op posted in the health thread about him. -

Rebanne replied to Cuko13's topic in General Dog Discussion
if your dog decides to take a wander, and he will if left on his own for 9 weeks and somone just popping in once a day, he could end up anywhere and yes he could be shot, hit by a car etc. Why would he come back to a empty house? Nothing for him there. -

Rebanne replied to Cuko13's topic in General Dog Discussion
you should be sending him to a good boarding kennel. 9 weeks is a very long time to be gone and rely on a neighbour to feed him. His yard would have to be escape proof as well. Dogs wandering on farm land are often shot on sight. -
The video is bad. Poor poor dogs
-
I don't know about any law but as a breeder I find that behaviour disgusting. They have had plenty of time to suss you out and change their mind if they think you are a bit dodgy. Of course we are only hearing your version but really they should have told you before you turned up to collect the pup. At least you get your deposit back which is not much comfort I know.

RSPCA Report- do you remember a litter euth'd for shyness?
Rebanne replied to denali's topic in General Dog Discussion
There was something more recently then the Cav pups. I thought it was in the news forum? There were dogs of all ages and sizes put down for various reasons. -

this was several years ago now and yes they were Cav's in the care of a couple, at least one was a vet themselves.
