Ab's for sure and get a blood test for her prog levels. If they are low she can be supplemented with progesterone to help her hold on to th ebabies

Oh Stitch. One of my guides would be having to give more and more meds. I don't use the still eating so they must be ok thing. My last one, Fern, she looked at me and clearly said I am sick of this please make it stop. Fern was still eating but she had adult onset mega esophagus. Battled it for a year. I wouldn't put a dog through that again. Really look at your girl, you'll know when.

It's such a hard question to answer. For me, once I start asking that question then I start making plans. We all have such individuals ideals. I know I will go earlier rather than later having left it too late by 12 hrs for one dog. I vowed never again. Dogs live in the moment, they don't stay awake at night thinking what if. The breeder should have been approached long before this. You really need a 2nd opinion. Can you take the dog for a couple of weeks and get it to a specialist? I bred a dog with OCD in the shoulder, was diagnosed by 4 months, seen by a specialist shortly after. He told me that by operating to scrape out all the cartilage etc the dog still would not be right, so I didn't. This was a pup I kept. As it turns out the dog was pretty much a lemon and was relieved of all pain before he was 4. Sh!t happens no matter how careful anyone is. Broke my heart. But I would want a 2nd opinion and hopefully by a specialist, before doing surgery. This where the breeder might have been able to help.

A very wise judge said once, something along the lines of; get the most experienced judge to judge at breed level ( as that is hardest ), the next experienced at group level and the least experienced at show level. Because once you get to BIS you have 7 amazing dogs to judge and anyone of them could could win. Makes sense to me. And I am not knocking any judge least of all one worthy of judging BIS at Crufts. I didn't see the BIS judging but you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I firmly believe that yes personal preference can come into play. We are all influenced one way or another and if you have 7 wonderful dogs to choose from but you know one breed a little bit better then the other 6, can see how well it fits the standard just a fraction more then the others, then yes you might choose that one. It's why exhibitors like to show under judges who know their breed, hoping that if everything else is equal, then familiarity with your breed might get you over the line. I used to keep a list of judges that had given a class in group, or more, to a greyhound, being excited they were prepared to put up what is a rare breed in the ring ( as long as it was of suitable standard of course ) Most show people do similar. If you have a choice of going under someone who has put your breed up or going to another show where a judge has never put your breed up guess which one most would choose? Flame suit firmly on

An Afghan from Aus, who has gone over for 6 months of showing took out Runner Up Best In Group. Only been there a few days An 8 yo old Shetland Sheepdog bred here in Aus was 2nd in an agility event, not sure if a heat or a final. Her breeders went over just to see her in action

You are under feeding him. Chicken necks, wings, carcasses are all fine but must be raw. No reason you couldn't add healthy table scraps like pasta or vegies. Don't feed any meat without some bone in it. 5 k's is way to much exercise for a 14 week old pup. Could do a lot of damage to his joints. Get a good quality dry food and I'd be feeding 3 times a day. A meal before work, a carcass when you leave, a meal after work and maybe even a chicken wing at bed time. Exercise can take the form of training, he is going to be a big boy, best work on his manners asap

I confess to never giving anything unless it is needed but, maybe your girl would have been much worse if you hadn't have been giving her the rosehip? How old is she now?

what health tests are needed for Springers? Are you prepared to do them? Are you prepared to lose the bitch? Pay for a c-section on a public holiday? Can you take time off work to raise the litter? You would need to collect semen now and get it frozen and that's if the dog is still fertile and if the semen is good enough to freeze. So many things can go wrong. Why not see if there are any relatives of your boy that have been bred from and see if you can track down a puppy with similar traits to your old dog.

Hip Dysplasia can crop up in the best bred and best reared dogs. It's all too late now but, having had 2 dogs in the past with HD, next time around and I sincerely hope there is not a next time round for you, I would treat conservatively until the dog was at least 18 months old and base further treatment with xrays taken around then. My first HD dog lived a good life with acpuncture and chiropractic adjustments with hips that the vets wondered how she even walked let alone compete in dog sports. As for the failure of the surgeries, well you've spoken to the surgeon and seem happy with his replies. I do consider this as one of the sh!t things that can happen when buying a living breathing creature and it probably didn't matter where you got the dog from or how it was bred. My 2 HD dogs, German Shepherds both, one was from what one would consider a registered back yard breeder and the other from a highly regarded kennel. I've also bred what turned out to be a "lemon" in greyhounds but I had kept him so it was only my heart broken, not mine and a new owner, when I had him put down before he was 4. I'm very sorry for your loss, it's not an easy time

not sure what health checks the parents should have but make sure you get copies of what they parents have had done. You'd be better off waiting for a pup from an ANKC breeder.
