  1. no, you would be better crate training it so it is still part of the family. And as the child is school aged they can be trained as well to leave the dog be. As for being quiet then that also needs training.
  2. well they could if they wanted but most wouldn't. Me, being a worry wart, would chainsaw them down to ground level as Thistle suggested
  3. I have reported this post so it can be moved to another forum where it will get more traffic. The older dog is not attacking out of the blue. I think you need a professional trainer to come and see the 2 in action. Desexing may work if it is the 2nd ranked one done. Therefore widening the gap between leader and follower. Problem is you need to know who is 2nd. But if the behaviour is too ingrained then desexing most likely won't fix it.
  4. MDBA do whatever they like. They would most likely say it is a breed in development.
  5. Calm will come soon enough! Enjoy the puppy madness while you have it. I've always said it is easier to calm down an over the top dog, then gee up the can't be bothered dog. Just as well my priorities changed when getting into the Greys
  6. Vary your toys, only give her (name?) a few each day and rotate then around. Mine love empty milk bottles, they also love digging holes! and that's the 4 year old As I currently have 3 they do help entertain each other. Try having her out more on her own when you are at home so you can monitor her noise levels. Trying to be a good neighbour sometimes makes it hard to also be a good dog owner. I bought the coats in the 1st pic, they didn't last long, and made the ones in the 2nd pic. We get minus 0 temps here quite often in winter
  7. about 10 weeks old here, in March 12 weeks old here in April with their Mum this was back in 2009
  8. One of the reason's she might be fascinated with bark chip etc is her exposure has been limited to that. Of course you don't want to come home to a sick dog and maybe, as a gun dog, she may never grow out of that habit, but more time outside, with supervision, might show her that it's all too boring. I'm a nurse and work night shift and no, I am not awake in the afternoon, but if you knocked on my door and explained what you are doing I would be ok with that. I do think your pup is barking because she does not know how to be on her own. I crate my pups at night for months. I don't give them free range until they are sleeping through the night for at least 8 hrs. And yep, moving stuff out of reach is very normal LOL Get her a cheap dog coat or make one for this winter.
  9. re the recall, as you say this is a baby puppy, and she can do other stuff but it's hit and miss, so the recall won't be any different. Set her up for success. Take your roast chook down to the park with you and start by only asking her to recall if she is already coming towards you, don't ask her while she is sniffing. Eventually you'll be able to recall off her sniffs if you work at it but it isn't going to happen yet. Most people have not "bashed" you. I crate train my dogs/pups but I also let them have free reign in the back yard. No reason she couldn't be out now if you had the kennel and dog run you want. I've had Greyhound pups out much younger then yours, in the depths of winter. In fact mine sleep outside when I am at work (nightshift) with a couple of coats and good sheltered beds.
  10. can she do all this reliably in the dog park?
  11. yet she is happy to get a poodle cross which will have lots of poodle traits. What will she do when her oodle turns out more poodle then golden?
  12. obvious answer is a Standard Poodle
  13. You're on the right track but possibly expecting a bit much for a 4 1/2 month old puppy to reliably recall, especially at a dog park. All those smells. Personally there is no way I'd take any dog, let alone a pup, to a dog park. I'd up her bedding in the crate. Not a lot of fur in a very cold climate, unless you leave heating on overnight. If it was my pup, and I have greyhounds, she'd be in some sort of coat. All mine are coated at night now and I often leave the heating on for us all.
  14. Hi and welcome. Your pup could be sleeping through the night any time now. One reason for waking is she might be cold. Has she plenty of blankets, is her crate covered? Maybe try a cheapie coat on her. Easy to make one from an old windcheater. Have you tried feeding her in the crate while you get ready? I think you have her exercise down right. Not too much and it's good she can get a run at lunchtime. There does seem to be a lot of crate time involved. How often is she left in the back yard for some free time? Maybe she could be fed outside in the morning? Can she not be free in the evenings while you are at home?
  15. I'm one whose bitches cycle every 10 months or so, plenty of time to recover from a litter, so theoretically could breed every heat or nearly so. My breed also often doesn't cycle before 2 1/2 to 3 years of age. Lots of my breed don't have their first litter until after 4. In the wild I would think it is more normal to come into season every 12 months or so. I doubt they handle it fine at anytime. They manage with what they have. Small litters, high death rates etc. Comparing wild to domestic is like apples to oranges.
  16. it really doesn't matter what our personal beliefs are or science says. It's what the ANKC and their various state bodies say that we, as registered breeders, have to abide by.
  17. I'd be talking to my vet. Is the mince human grade?
  18. No they don't. Less cost for the new owner.
  19. I sent 2 pups there about 6 1/2 years ago. They went in the same crate and were about 12 weeks old. I can't recall the price. I used Jet Pets. New owner picked them up from the airport after being checked by quarantine.
  20. Most bitches are very happy to be away from their pups by 5 or 6 weeks. Heaps are happier to clear out from mothering duties even earlier. Many will spend a short time, very short!, playing with the pups but they do not hang around with the pups for hours at a time. Other pups teach bite inhibition and social manners mainly. Most of my pups taught each other, the adults were much more indulgent. My pups mingled with all my adults from the time they could walk.
  21. if this is happening because one is in season please be aware that Zara will continue to come into season for as long as she lives. They don't just stop at a certain age. They may be longer apart or silent or different in some way but they will continue
  22. Really you are not going to contact the other breeders because you think one was rude? Just contact them and see what happens. You will most likely have to satisfy some very indepth questioning to be considered for a pup.
  23. you can start taking your pup out now. Yes there is a slight risk but it can be done if you are sensible. You can take pup on car rides and park in busy places and sit in the car and let the pup take in all the sights and sounds. You could go to a puppy preschool class. You can go to friends places even if they don't have a dog. Things like that. Also there has been a 10 week shot around for years. I think it is the same as the one that you are talking about. Personally I vaccinate a C3 at 8 weeks and 12 weeks and do not do a 3rd one.
