Hi Leon, sounds like everything that can be done is being down for your girl. Actually the breeder was a bit remiss letting the pup go only 4 days after vaccination, unless of course it was the 2nd or 3rd. I'm about to head off to work (nightshift) but yes you have a case for some reimbursement, I think only up to the purchase price. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction re the legislation in Victoria. If not I'll have a look for you in a couple of days and post here.

I only ever do 2 puppy vaccinations. 8 weeks and 12 weeks. I do believe the nobivac vacc given at 10 weeks is the last one needed until 12 months later. No idea about the nasal component though. However there is no way at all that I would be taking a puppy to a dog park. IMO you are just asking for trouble and not just from the various diseases she could pick up. Your vet would be able to advise you on how many parvo cases they have seen lately.

Yes please let the breeder know asap so they can let the other puppy owners know and keep an eye on their own dogs/pups. Poor baby, I hope she comes through ok. The law in Victoria says you can get a full refund of purchase price if in a vet's opinion pup's illness was contracted before sale. (words to that effect, I'd have to look up the proper wording) How old is puppy and what age did she have her vaccination/s?

Purchased puppy 4 weeks ago and has fallen ill with a congenital disease
Rebanne replied to Saz1991's topic in Puppy Chat
First of all any dog can get wobblers, my Greyhound bitch was suspected of having it earlier this year. What she had was steroid responsive meningitis. So how old is this pup? 12 weeks old? Weight loss can come about from a growth spurt or simply the awful heat that has been happening. Congential is not always hereditary. " Congenital disorders are present from birth, and hereditary disorders are transmitted from parents to their children through the genes." Dogs, people same thing. So even if your pup does have wobblers then that's just the luck of the draw. At this stage, as diagnosis is uncertain, you have few rights. I'd suggest a less combative stance with your breeder. One would hope you took out pet insurance on your pup as Neo's are not the soundest of breeds out there. Anyway the most you would get back, if you can prove the breeder sold you a sick pup in the first place, is the purchase price and that usually involves sending the pup back. Fingers crossed it's just a minor curve ball that's been thrown at you and your pup. -
I can't follow you asal. I've had dogs with AAR for several years and they are Australia wide. No false advertising there. If you are referring to Dogsfevr's comment " If the animal leaves NSW on that register the chip details do not show up & has to be re registered on a registry that is Aussie wide." She is talking about the NSW register which I think is CAR which is a bit confusing seeing as how the rest of Australia already had CAR = Central Animal Records first

Breeder hesitant for us to help in choosing which puppy
Rebanne replied to wlee's topic in Puppy Chat
I usually pick which pup goes where especially for a first time dog owner. I've watched the pups from day one and have a very good idea of each ones temperament etc and who would do best in each particular home. Most of my puppy buyers have not been in a position to easily visit so not unusual to not see pup until either pick up from my home of off the plane. The couple that have been close enough have visited with many warnings not to get their mind set on a certain pup. On the whole this has worked out well for everyone involved. -
I used to fry up some cheap steak with peas and carrots for my fat foodie. The vegies took on some of the meat flavour. Emma never knew what she was getting and didn't care!

I feed 3 greyhounds twice a day. Raw minced chicken for breakfast ( was cooking it due to a health scare for one dog but back to raw now ) and dry for tea. The dry food I feed is a mix of what is on special at the supermarket or at Budget Pet Products. Supercoat, Optimum, Natures Gift or similar. Can be grain free or not. I don't believe paying $100 for a dry food makes it any better then what I am already feeding nor do I have to feed less of it (according to the bag) because it's "better". My dogs also get raw duck necks or rib bones once or twice a week and whole raw carrots to munch on.

As someone who has Greyhounds and an inside cat and have fostered for GAP, quite a few years ago now when I had at least 3 cats, I'd be removing the dog asap. If she can't be easily distracted then I would never trust her with my cats. I don't give them any time, they either are, or they are not, cat tolerant. And it only takes a short time to see that. It's a highly stressful situation for you all, people, dog, cats and rabbits. And no way to live for anyone of you.

Help! My dog has extremely bad Anxiety when outside!

so she has had 12 months of doing this behaviour? From 1 year to now at 2 years. I think you need a professional behaviourist so they can see your dog in action -

If they are registered with Tas Dogs, or whatever they are called, you can ring them and ask if they are current members. Does the ad not say who they are registered with? -
Agree, though I got right into the remedies and would make suggestions to my vet and we would discuss them and then decide. And any oils you use has to be the good stuff.
-
My homeopathic vet made up remedies for me for one particular dog. It was many years ago. Each remedy is for a particular purpose and the 4 that most fitted the situation were mixed together.
-
is this for out and about or at home or both? I have to say I never saw much improvement with adaptil sprays but a good friend swears by them. I have used homeopathic remedies with great success - not all but most. I was lucky, my vet was also a qualified homeopath. You could also look at essential oils, a drop or two added to his collar or a bandana. You need to do your research as what may work best and of course not use any that can be harmful.

no need to have "many" accidents in the house. I always set the alarm for twice during the night to take the puppy to the toilet overnight. IE last wee break at 10 pm, then up again at 1, then 4 then normal rising time. And, rather quickly, start extending the times. 10 pm, then 2am, 5 am etc I use a crate at night in the same bedroom as me. If the pupwakes up before alarm time then they are taken out and alarm reset. By 12 weeks they are usually sleeping 8 hours at least a night. Much better then human babies! Your breeder might have something in their contract about desexing but IMO not before 12 months and after 18 months would be better. My house is basically puppy proof, clothes and shoes put away, food stuffs not left out, plenty of play time outside in the fresh air and in the crate when unsupervised. Ask your breeder!
