  1. could have been a mild seizure. I'd suggest a vet visit and if it happens again before you get to the vet try and video it.
  2. Take the pup to the vet get them to scan for the microchip number and write it down. You will need to register the pup with a microchip company that covers Australia. As the pup has come from NSW it most likely is only on that states database. Other states have a lot of trouble getting into that database so it's best pup be put on another. Your vet will help you get him registered. I believe DogsNSW process litter registrations very quickly once they have them. I would be contacting them to see if the registrations have been submitted.
  3. I guessed you were talking about GSD's. I was talking purely good conformation, the way the whole package comes together, how every joint works in partnership etc. No good having good hips and elbows if the toes are crap or going blind from PRA. Plenty of working bred dogs can't work. Ask any farmer how many they have shot over the years.
  4. good conformation is a must because without it a dog will break down much more quickly/seriously. Not much good have a very keen/good working dog that can't see out a days work.
  5. I am guessing white with a patch?
  6. one thing I would say is, as first time dog owners, you would want one of the more laid back pups. All those hip and elbow scores are fine except for the elbow with 2. I personally would not be happy with that. However you can have perfect scores and still end up with a pup with a problem. I would want proof that the dam put to the EIC dog is clear of that disease. DOG forgiveme for saying this but registration papers are less important then full copies of all health testing and what sort of support the breeders will give you. You could also look up the lab club for your state and see what other health test they recommend be done. There are also two other places you could check here. https://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/170329-labrador-retriever/?page=13&tab=comments#comment-6954506 https://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/108730-those-crazy-labradors/?page=1493&tab=comments#comment-6924661
  7. Steve has not been on here for ages. I answered your other post. Try contacting your breeder.
  8. Haven't seen Steve on here for a very long time. Suggest you contact your breeder or see if there is a live stock guarding group on Facebook or similar
  9. I let people come to the house. But I know some who don't. Personally, if the pups were close enough to view easily, then I would want to see them.
  10. so sorry LMO. Bunter was a very handsome dude.
  11. I use ValuHeart which is Ivermectin based. Not to be used on non DNA tested working dogs. I usually use Advantage for the spot on and the all wormer is usually Milbemax but I'm not too worried about brand as long as it is an all wormer.
  12. I use as little as possible and never a combo. I give a monthly heart worm tablet that only does heartworm and I give it every 6 weeks. I use an intestinal wormer roughly 3 times a year. Spot on flea treatment a couple of times over summer for just in case. No ticks where I live.
  13. hi and welcome to the forum. Sorry to say though I can't help answer your questions. Is the ear really bigger or is the ear set different which makes it look bigger? I would guess it's just one of those things that happen in breeding any type of animal, including people. Mother nature does like to throw curve balls at us.
  14. Don't know if this helps but had a mare abort a twin foal late pregnancy and go on to have a live foal at due date. Can't recall that any intervention was done.
  15. Many years ago I bought clippers from K Mart to use on a GSD that required frequent washes for a skin condition, year round. Think they were put out by Dr Harry. They did the job required of them, pretty sure they were corded, just used an outdoor rated extension lead with them and clipped my girl in the back yard.
  16. My parents had 3 pekes, 2 related, one not. Yep lived to their teens with very few problems.
  17. you could consider being a foster carer for the times you are in Australia
  18. What does a person do if they have a dog that can't be vaccinated and need to board their dog? Thinking of taking a holiday late in the year and it is recommended that Opal is not vaccinated again. I would be willing to try her with the killed parvo vacc, Parvac, but nothing else. Not keen on someone staying in my home.
  19. I'm so sorry LMO. It's such a hard decision to make. For me, if I start asking myself should I or shouldn't I, then I usually do.
  20. Yes it was me with my girl Fern. 32 kilo greyhound. I never bothered with the chair etc, was 100% confident that it would not have been suited for us. I did elevate her food bowl and the water dish as high as possible. She slept in a crate which had pillows etc each end which kept her head up high. I always thought Fern had a rather mild case and most likely had it for at least 2 years before being diagnosed. There was no known cause and I didn't bother with any further testing. I did experiment with different foods to see what had least chance of coming back up but can't recall what I settled on. I do remember being surprised that dry food, slightly moistened was ok. It was approx 12 months later that I had Fern pts, she'd had a very bad 24 hours and gave me the look. She had slowly gotten worse over the 12 months. I'm so sorry Basil has got this
  21. The breeders vet hasn't seen the pup so can't say it is not parvo. Trust the vet treating Belle. If Belle is sick enough to be hospitalised for several days then yes her body may not cope with such an antibiotic. I am finding it strange the breeder and vet are so insistant that Belle has a parasitic bug. Surely they have put a name to it? What has happened that they are so insistant? Another sick dog? Previous problems?
  22. Just home from nightshift. Got to play Santa delivering a little wrapped gift, lovingly made by a former nurse, to my patients which was a big hit when they woke up and saw Santa had been. I got a wonderful warm feeling from this little act. And on the flip side spent time with one patient who will be leaving us soon, may he go with peace and love.
