  1. HELP: Can anyone give me a contact for the Greyhound adoption program in Victoria. Thanks. Darren Stebbings President RRCV. Hi Darren, try Larissa or Melanie on 0357992909 or at [email protected] or [email protected] or go to their web site in my siggy.
  2. not very big at all Mine is just big enough for a double bed, a dresser, bookcase and a couple of wardrobes. I have one trampoline bed in a corner and a mat next to the bed for the dogs. If I need a crate in my room, ie for a pup, I put it where the trampoline bed is. It can be a bit hard getting around to make the bed properly but so what
  3. Trying to tempt me or what??? So unfair I've looked it up, it's at the Exhibition Centre in Wodonga but it didn't have a start time?
  4. Hey, I'd love to come up and watch/help. I have never seen real flyball in the flesh. Where is it being held at? I have that day off and live only an hour away edit to add: I'm a VCA member if that helps
  5. give more than praise, try food treats when she goes in the right spot, and watch, watch, watch and I can't stress how good this site is for links to everything, it is always my first port of call if I have a problem K9 Events
  6. I'll second Nadia Zahra looks greyt! The picture of health. Sounds like she is eating heaps if she eats all that food you listed. I wouldn't worry about the vegies, they are not an important part of a dog's diet.
  7. that can be taught too rope pull on door handle, can on shelf, beer in hand :D
  8. Thats easy! Teach her to target to a margarine lid (or similar), stuck on the door, then decrease the size of the target, put a name to it and once that's reliable take the target away
  9. I'm paranoid but I would be getting the xrays asap. My Sam presented with a slight limp which was treated much as you say. 3 weeks later I took him back and got him xrayed, he had osteosarcoma in the shoulder. A friend's hound cross had it present in her jaw. Lilly most likely has just done a bit of short term damage to herself but I couldn't sleep until I had her xrayed. But as I say I'm paranoid about that bloody bone cancer
  10. I have to pull out of the lure coursing on the 28th Molly went to the vet yesterday to get a couple of teeth removed and ended up having 11 taken out so I won't risk running her and it's a bit far to come just for Piper. Hope you all enjoy the day. I will get down one day!
  11. Besides the pictures we need to know her name! The greyhound pups I raised were all knocking back chicken wings by 6 weeks but they were settled here with me and had been regularly wormed. I would consider fasting her for 12 to 24 hours with only water to drink. Seems drastic I know but it was the only thing that worked for a 4 week old kitten I was raising once. And a 4 week old kitten is very tiny compared to a 6 week old grey pup. When your girls tummy has settled stick to what you want to feed her and if not eaten remove in 15 minutes and only very small amounts 4 times a day, then build on that. Good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine
  12. Ok so maybe not leave her in that one big room unless you are there? Things I have heard of but never used are mousetraps set upside down so they make a racket but cause no harm, empty drink cans stacked up so they fall and make a racket and foil placed on top of items cause dogs don't like the feel of the foil on their feet.
  13. No problem with giving ivermectin liquid but you must get the right sort from your vet. Some will give it out ans some won't. My regular vet did and then they started getting "antsy" as it is off label so I just went to the cheapest monthly tablet. I never had a problem with it and yes it was very cheap when you've got a few big dogs to do. My friend still gets it for her 3 greyhounds from her vet.
  14. All I can say is that it is better to go too early than 1 second too late. I lost my Sam to bone cancer 3 weeks after diagnosis, had a awful last few hours with him when the pain meds stopped working waiting for the vet to come. I will never ever again keep a dog alive once cancer has been diagnosed. The dogs don't know what the needle is for, only the people, though I would swear Sam knew and welcomed it. Sam was 8. It's not an easy decision but one only you can make.
  15. Sending good vibes your way, I know what it's like worrying about your baby
  16. Damn I'm working. Maybe Piper will get a go next time.
  17. so sorry Olly for your loss. At least Hapi had a wonderful 4 months with you.
  18. K9: this really isnt true, if you never expose your dog to washing & teach him that it isnt acceptable, you will be forever in management. Me:Funny how I can now leave my washing out all day, dangling all over the place without a worry in the world K9: there are three stages to training a dog, the learning stage, the correction stage & the distraction stage. If you never expose your dog to washing that he might want, you have missed the most crucial stage of training, the distraction stage. Me:See above. It has worked for me with many dogs. No need for a correction stage with my method so far. K9: greys have a strong natural prey drive, if you dont teach this breed they cannot chase & bite everything they find prey stimulating you have an out of control dog, management wont work when prey drive is a subconscious reaction to stimuli. Me:Thanks I am quite familiar with greys and their prey drive. I have 4 cats
  19. I've always avoided hanging long flapping washing out when I've had a pup. I choose a time that the pup would be supervised then hang out the towels and sheets etc. I belive this is setting up the dog to succeed. If you prevent a problem from starting by a bit of management in the beginning the dog is a whole lot better off. Prevent the problem first rather than play catch up by correcting, has worked well for all my dogs and the fosters I have had, including the current 10 month old greyhound boy who just loves to pick up everything in his mouth, just like a toddler.
  20. Chicken giblets are hearts and livers. My dogs love them. Pet mince depends where you buy it. My butcher has a great mixture of organ meats, chicken carcasses etc. I buy chicken carrcasses for a $1 a kilo and I can get big bags of offal, hearts, tongues, liver etc for about $1.50 a kilo. Ask your butcher what they can do for you, ask around. Here it is cheaper to go through a butcher than a supermarket. 10 kilos of chicken carcasses does my 3 dogs for a week. One greyhound, one GSD and one beagle X.
  21. dog rocks seem to be working for us though Tatum did remove them a few times I only have them in the inside water not the big bucket outside. My dogs prefer to drink from inside so that's not a problem. I got mine off ebay
  22. I know there is soemthing around for cats. I have an 11 yo moggy who was speyed at 7 months. Tilley could be quite nasty to both us and the other cats. She has had two injections of a female hormone when she was younger and the difference they made was amazing. If they could give cats something years ago ( last injection approx 6 years ) surely there must be something for dogs by now.
  23. Thanks. I may have to think of having a go with Piper. The stand for exam was always going to beat me so I didn't try.
