  1. Yep I've seen it done when the owner is standing right next to the so called instructor and the dog. No time to react at all before their dog is a quivering mess on the ground. What the dog learns from that is to be suspicious of hands approaching them. Or to become the quivering mess on the ground whenever they are approached which is just as hard for another person be they vet, groomer, whatever.
  2. But the dog, which was a pup, wasn't guided, it was grabbed by a stranger and dragged into a very submissive position, poor pup wouldn't have had any idea of what was expected of it so yes it screamed and struggled to get away from this attack. I suggest if someone many times your size suddenly grabbed you by your collar and forced you down to the ground you might seriously object too. And keep objecting until you either broke free or gave in.
  3. Been there and done that and learnt the lesson. No need indeed for any dog,let alone a 16 week old pup, to be treated in such a way, but some people try to make up for their lack of knowledge by using brute strength instead.
  4. A hard lesson learned, never let the instructor use your dog as a demo dog, unless you yourself are 100% happy with their training methods or something like this happens.
  5. Fern's breeder was here today checking out the pups and she had one of he greyhounds bloat last Sunday. The bitch had the op and came home ( vet wanted to send her to a 24 hr facility but Kris didn't ) and Kris said she has bounced back remarkably well in just a week. Fingers crossed Millie does the same.
  6. keeping everything crossed that all is going to plan
  7. That video is hilarious ISH I wonder if the greyhounds would like something?
  8. I vaccinated my 2 pups today at 8 weeks and their next one will be at 12 weeks and that's it until a booster 12 months after that. I only vaccinate with a C3.
  9. I wouldn't be putting chemicals like that on their sensitive bellies and groins. It is designed to go on their backs, that's where I would put it. I had a dog lean against a painted wall after having it applied to their back. The paint lifted! I was horrified but the vet said there was an ingrediant in spot on's that could do that. I now avoid them as much as possible.
  10. I wouldn't give him more than a C3.
  11. no go for me  too much pain in shoulder, need quite a bit of work on it
  12. Good meat to bone ratio in those small children, Ruth Generally both meat sources are free range too. yeah but children eat a lot of junk food, don't know that I would want my dogs eating them, thank of the nasties in the liver
  13. can't help yourself can you why don't you post what you think instead of trying to pass off other people's work as your own
  14. I have hit a hurdle Me, not Fern. I've hurt my shoulder at work, suspected torn tendons, wouldn't really know until I see the physio this coming Friday and find out the results of the ultra sound. Luckily it is my right shoulder but I am struggling with it re biking Fern. I'm going to do what I can until I see the physio and then I'll ask her if bike riding is okay ( won't mention the dog attached ). If she says no I'll be out. It's work cover and I can't afford to stuff that up.
  15. Umm, to actually trial a dog you need to be a member of your state's organisation. I thought you were opposed to them Midol?
  16. another thumbs up for K9 + Katz, only cost me $7 delivery for a 13 kilo bag and was here in 2 days
  17. If it's warm you can also hold an umbrella up for us or if it's rainy, Fern doesn't do rain.
  18. Duh, where's the where? we are doing it at the Dali club one in Melbourne
  19. I just "block" with the front wheel.....Benson has never been jammed, just blocked. Hmmmmm....greyhounds are bred for speed not endurance, she'd be a whole different deal to train because you're going against hundreds of years of genetic coding. How is she on long, long walks? That's why I am taking over 12 weeks to train her, got to build up those slow twitch muscles as opposed to the fast twitch ones. Fern won't be the 1st greyhound to get her ET title. There was one last year in Tas, one in Victoria about 4 years ago and I think there was one in Queensland but don't hold me to that. Yes very different to training my other 2 dogs that I have titled, takes a bit more thought and planning. ETA Fern was doing 6 k's with ease before motherhood interrupted our training
  20. yeah springdog, the Dali club isn't going to know what their in for when all us Doler's turn up
  21. It is a greyhound we are talking about I tire her out with play, she's not going to run very far. And if I was to jam her between a fence and the bike and cut her off with the front wheel, Fern would never step out with me again. Those things would have worked with my GSD, they might have worked with my crossbreed, but they won't work with a greyhound, at least not mine. I do run Fern on a walky dog and harness, the lead is loose to her collar. My plan is to remove the harness and walky dog a month or so out and her muscle memory and conditioning will hold her in the correct position, along with the words I am currently teaching her.
  22. I've always found those blocks to be pretty useless - on dogs or horses. They just don't hold an edge well. A tool with a serrated blade or a curry comb works far better for hair removal IMO. I've found them to work really well with the greyhounds
