The only problem might be this part. My boy is 35kg and quite big and he likes to walk for about 15 minutes optimally, but occasionally we will take him for a 30 minute walk and thats totally enough for him. The other night after a 30 minute walk he wanted to sleep in preference to eating his dinner he was that tired! If we wanted to walk him for an hour, he'd be knackered! Does anyone have a grey that walks for an hour? mine would if I did and I have a friend whose greys regularly did an hour every day when they were younger. They are now seniors so the walks aren't as long.

Wangaratta Kennel & Obedience Dog Club
Rebanne replied to Lovewyre's topic in General Dog Discussion
just have to say well done to the club and exhibitors alike. I had my dogs down at the grounds for a run this morning and if I didn't know better would have had no idea there was 2 days of showing just completed. Grounds stood up well and not a bit of rubbish, or dog poop, to be seen within the confines of the dog club grounds. Well done to all. :D -

it has rained most of the day and is still raining, grp 5 is in ring 4, closest to the river. From the club house down it is ring 1, ring 2, a place to set up gazebo's in the middle then ring 3, then ring 4. I went down at lunch time and saved a couple of spots in the middle bit, so we will be able to see all rings. I got so wet I had to go home and change before heading back to work! Even if it doesn't rain it will be wet under foot. -
I had calcium, glucose and oxytocin on hand ready for Fern but she had a c-section so wasn't needed. I will have all 3 ready next time and use the calcium and glucose as a matter of course with the oxy as back up.

I Fell In Love With A Greyhound Yesterday

the question was watch dog, not guard. Mine have excellent temperaments and are excellent watch dogs. Anybody can pat them but they bark if someone comes to the house. -

do not underestimate what they are, very fast sight hounds driven by prey drive, who also happen to be very laid back, calm and loving. I have show bred greyhounds with no race blood in them, 2 out of the 3, are very keen and would certainly hunt if given the chance, yet they all live with my 3 cats. -

Fern is brilliant, as good as any of my previous GSD's and Miller is learning from her. -

one of my dogs ended up with a wound nearly that size after a very minor scuffle between two of them. I checked her out at the time, found nothing. Later there was some swelling so I took her to the vet who shaved her down (smooth coat cross breed, no long hair hiding anything) and found a very, very small tooth mark and some underlying damage. So I consider it very feasible that 3 people could look at a long haired dog and find nothing initially.

They don't take up much room -
from the article in the link "Now, if four dissimilar pure-breeds e.g., Lhasa Apso, Cardigan Corgi, Saluki and Newfoundland, were allowed to interbreed willy nilly, within just two generations, the mixed-breed offspring would largely resemble shepherds, Labradors, huskies and terriers types, even though these dogs have had no shepherd, Lab, husky, or terrier blood in their veins for hundreds of generations. This phenomenon is known as atavism, whereby the interbreeding of highly selected strains causes a reversion to the wild type, i.e., wolfy-lookalikes (shepherds and huskies) and prototypical dogs (Lab-pointer types). Thus, many mongrel bites are erroneously classified as shepherd, Labrador and husky bites because the dogs looked like those breeds, i.e., the dogs were classified by phenotype (looks) rather than genotype (geneology)." The article was excellent but the above paragraph really caught my attention.

The Benefits Of Being On A Club Committee
Rebanne replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
and sometimes the club is perceived as a closed shop or dysfunctional by the corrupt; the arseholes, the hopeless and the helpless , when in reality it's not. In other words don't take everything you are told as gospel, find out things for yourself, you might be pleasantly surprised. -

well I wasn't going to say anything quite this early, but it looks like I will be show secretary for our local club next year and I fully intend to enter my dogs, whether I actually get to show them myself or get someone else too, way too early to say yet. But I am not missing out on a local show just because some perceive a possible bias on the judges part. I think it is pretty sad that so many people seem to think judges are so easily influenced.

What Is Your Worming/flea Control Regime!?
Rebanne replied to Flick_Mac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Valueplus for heartworm every 6 weeks, worming every few months and nothing else. If there is a flea problem I use a spot on but never regularly.
