I have had great success with Bach Flower remedies when tailored for the dog for the particular problem. I have also had failures, mainly anything to do with anxiety when travelling (tried all sorts of things for that) and rescue remedy when used as a general cure. I get mine, when needed, from my vet. Haven't needed anything for a long time, but she does a consult, then makes up the remedy based on the consult. If it didn't work she would make another, free of charge, but most times it was spot on. Hmm, I haven't tried her for the travelling anxiety, best I make an appointment I think!

I have a 13 and 1/2 year old dog here who, if she gets caught short, will always wee on a dog bed. Easier to clean a dog bed then the carpet, easier still to make sure she never gets caught short. I've never left a 5 month old loose in the house. Mine only get to be loose in the house, without me being around, after they are at least 12 months old. If i do leave them in the house before then they are crated.

while I obviously think greyhounds just about walk on water they are still dogs and still need to be matched carefully to the new owners home and lifestyle. Many are not suitable for kids, they have never seen them or interacted with them. Just because they might just lay there and let a kid do whatever does not mean they like what it being done to them. Greyhounds are well known for shutting down, turning into statues, when things happen that they don't like. It's why vets like them, they will just stand there. But it doesn't mean that one day they won't react. Please people, do not make out that greyhounds are faultless, because they do have faults, they are after all still a dog. Very damn special but still a dog.

I sincerely hope that with all this shuffling around of semen and lack of interest by some staff that it has all be stored correctly

What Do You Do When People Are Inciting Your Dogs To Bark?
Rebanne replied to Narcissa's topic in General Dog Discussion
from the other side of the gate. If a dog in a front yard runs up to the fence barking at my dogs being walked past I do stop. I refuse to be pulled around by my dogs who want to get to the fence barking dogs, I refuse to let the fence barking dogs win by seeing mine off. I walk off when my are back under control and the other dogs let us go quietly ie not chasing us the length of the fence barking, snarling, yapping. If, very rarely, a person actually comes out I tell them what I am doing, politely. If they don't like it too bad. eta fix spelling ps I never stop to talk to dogs inside fences so never incite barking but be buggered if I am going to rush past certain houses because people think they can leave their dogs in the front yard to rush at innocent people and dogs walking by. -

Backstage With Crowded House And The Greyhounds At Rod Laver
Rebanne replied to whippets's topic in General Dog Discussion
no they just plucked dogs at random and hoped for the best! This is a couple of years old now. It was discussed here at the time. -
not now, they get marrow bones a couple of times a week but I am trying just dry food for now and so far it's good. I decided it was only fair to cut out all extra's and see if all these claims are anywhere near true
-
nope, didn't work here when my greys were on all raw. Chicken didn't agree with one, red meat didn't agree with another. So it was half and half for a while, with a lot of mucking around, now we are all dry, have been for a few weeks and one has put on weight and the others are getting there. The diet that is most suitable is the one the dogs do well on.

Miller is 18 months old and skinny as. I just accept it as part and parcel of being a young, very active hound. He get 3- 4 cups a day of dry food, plus extra's like chicken thighs and drumsticks. If no extra's he gets 4 cups. Currently on optimum. I find porridge puts weight on them and mine all get some in the winter. Another goodie is lamb flaps.

Can I Take Another Dog To The Melbourne Show

I think the bigger issue is why you can not leave the dog home alone? -
I am interested in getting semen from Canada but the AQIS web site I found is very confusing. Is there a more straightforward link? I want to know what tests need to be done, are titre test's acceptable?

do you have the stats on this, would love to see them as I am very interested

I am happily and proudly an irresponsible dog owner. I think I will start a club for IDO's.

your kidding right? have you any idea how just changing the colours around on a dog can be confusing? I have a desexing certificate here for a white and fawn dog, colour the vets put down - tan and white, huge difference. They saw the dog, they operated on him, and still put the colour down wrong. I worked at a shelter and the people who rang up looking for a black and white dog when the dog was really white and black was huge. I quickly learnt to pin them down to the correct colour and description, cause when you're looking for a lost foxie X, for example, correct colour and description helps to find them. *Sigh* You're arguing with me about the difference between describing a dog as 'black and white' or 'white and black'... are you kidding me?! As soon as someone calls up going "Hey, I lost a black and white Fox Terrier cross, with a black dot on his head" would you not automatically go "Well, we dont have anything here by that description, but you're welcome to come and have a look. Also, we've had a call from someone from your area with a dog that sounds like it might match your description. Why don't you give them a call too"? The issue could then be that someone could call up, go to this persons house and take the dog whether it was theirs or not. Having said that, with a dog with no collar, no tags and no findable chip, this could happen anyway. of course I advised the owners to come and look to double check. You were the one that said it wasn't hard to get a description and I was saying it's not that easy at times. But I am just an irresponsible dog owner whose dogs don't wear collars so what would I know.

not all microchips are found.

nothing worse then a fat greyhound, they look horrible. Mine are always ribby. Wish I could say the same about me

This grey has been assessed as not small animal safe. I would listern to GAP before I listerned to the owner. To me the owner is playing on people's emotion's. They tried GAP and were told the dog is not suitable, they should PTS or keep him/her. They should not be trying to rehome the dog, pity the small fluffy it meets. They are not all suitable for rehoming.
